  1. I thought I had all things locked down then found a couple of PC's with icons set to a large size. Couldnt figure out how they had done it until I found out they just scrolled the wheel on the mouse by accident and it zoomed the desktop icon size (think I needed to hold ctrl down as well). Is it possible to lock this down some how (not disabling the wheel on the mouse though) or can I set the size at logon if I cant stop them using GPO (using server 2008 R2)
  2. Head just had some prospective teachers around and one commented that she had been in schools where teachers had a tablet to control class PC connected to projector and write with rather than have an interactive board. Gues where this is leading.....yes, I got called in and my new project has arrived. So question is, how is it done, android or apple? Free software i.e. vnc or paid specific app?
  3. Thanks, will have a look at that.
  4. Got the same problem here except at the moment its only affecting office icons, did post about reinstalling office to the normal program files folder but no replies and have not had chance yet to see if it works ok that way. Its not a major problem if it does work as we only have 5 64bit pcs. We do have redirected menus and desktops which are set up depending who is logged on and not which pc it is, hence issue with 64/32.
  5. Ah that probably explains it, have only 7 and 8 listed in options, but all pc's have 9 as I included that in last years image.
  6. Have WSUS ru ning on oour 2003 server and I want to stop it pushing out IE10, had a look but cant seem to see where it is so I can I presume Decline it for the moment. Can anyone point me in the right direction to finding it. Done a search and all it listed were security updates for 10.
  7. Just a quick bump on this, just in case anyone missed it, if not looks like I'll just have to try it and see.
  8. Basically as the title says, I would like a Blog that allows me just to send an email and it uploads automatically with any attachments. Posterous would allow this and low and behold now I want to do it I find they are shutting the site down! So, anyone got any suggestions? Key words are free and email content. Most I have found seem to want money for some strange reason, dont they know I work in a school!
  9. Well, at the moment it looks like I will stay with 9 then. In my own experience with our CMS school website, it made editing pages shall we say..interesting! The boxes to edit text in slowly moved across the screen all the time but in 9 everything was as it should be. Thanks for all tbe comments.
  10. Building up our standard image for the summer, is IE10 OK to include or are there any issues with it? We use Group Policy to send out the proxy settings but have heard if issues with that, whats the general consensus?
  11. Not had that error, but had to have mine repaired for the standby light always on error, cost me £100 to have it repaired by Samsung repair centre. Not the news you probably wanted.
  12. Yes, got a plan of the school, imported it and then took a walk. Dont get me wrong, its free, so dobt expect the earth but saying that it does a good job giving a nice coloured graphical overlay on the plan of signal strengths.
  13. I have used this one before http://www.ekahau.com/products/heatmapper/overview.html
  14. Correct, it is that file (an databse for a palm) but still need it converting in to something I can use further.
  15. Have found a mobile (pdb) database of all the ones in the human body which I want to use with the kids but I need it converting in to a usable form i.e. excel, csv, anything but pdb! Googled everything but struck out. Obi Wan you are my last hope...oops, slipped in to Star Wars mode there! EduGeek you are my last hope! https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13103589/Bones_of_the_Hu.pdb
  16. I usually put things like the shortcut to Word etc on a common desktop that gets loaded at logon but just realised that although thats fine for nearly all our PC's (32bit) we have a room with some 64bit PC's which have the 32bit version of 2010 on them and is installed by default in to the Program Files (x86) folder which will mess up my global shortcuts when loaded. Can I just reinstall Office but specifiy the normal Program Files folder so they will be able to use the same shortcut loaded as everyone else or is there a specific reason I cant and it must go in the (x86) folder instead.
  17. Ah! Just googled the run command and see you set the option to wait till finished, brilliant, thanks, job sorted for me anyway :-)
  18. Looks like vbs to me. Does the above wait for one to finish before starting the next as it could very well sort a similar thing for me that has just cropped up.
  19. Wouldnt you also need to set it to wait till one had finished before starting the next one.
  20. Comming back from BETT this year it was announced that we would be delayed and they were at great pains to say that it was due to another companies train and not theirs, not that it made any difference to us, it was still a delay.
  21. You only need to watch 4 (the original and best) then maybe 5, the rest are just waffle and done for the money, but 4 was ground breaking. Saw it a few times when it originally came out, have it on VHS and read the book countless times...ok so I have a biased view!
  22. Yes, think that's what I was after, the bare metal backup produces a vhd which I can load up in Virtualbox.
  23. Now thats a good point! Presumed it did (we just use winxows backup) but if it didnt couldnt i just run a disk2vhd to create one?
  24. Just looking at disaster recovery after reading another thread, we use server 2008 R2 and do a baremetal backup, if we do have a disaster what prog can I use to run the baremetal as a vm? I currently use virtualbox for creating base images etc so happy with that, possible to use that? Would it just be a case of main server fails, just boot up the vm, all back on line and everyone happy till server sorted or is that too simistic a view?
  25. Suppose I will do it before someone else does, first problem, Teachers, second problem, pupils...depending on the school you may reverse those two. Schools are great to work in and tech support a dream....when its the school holidays and no one else is in! Welcome to the IT Crowd of EduGeek!
