What issues did you have? Just installed a few in a room for my school (MZ73 from memory) with our W7 32bit image on them.
-
Any details on how that would be set up (simpletons version please!)
-
Hmmm glad I found this, I have tried the Android route and come across the same problem registereing the tablets, take it off the school wifi and works fine. I was provided with the same ip, port info which was set to be allowed in our server firewall but no change. A pity as I would really like this to work. Do we have a definitive answer on getting the android or IOS (which is my next step) to work through a school Wifi using a proxy address?

If I remember when I am in on Monday I will take a pic. Any local fabricator should beable to do it. After looking at ours (relative of finance) I could have welded it better myself and in half the time!

Logon stuck at "Please wait for the user profile service"
TechSupp replied to Jobos's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Now that's coincidental, is there an update that may have cased this as we just had the very same thing happen, waited about an hour before I could get in then it all looked OK...but...I then logged off and was then stuck at the the loading group policy objects! No way but wait for my friendly more knowledgeable engineer to dig me out of it. He eventually got back in (Active Director Restore Mode) after a hard reset and it was something to do with the DNS it seemed, looked to have forgotten its settings, thought it was a one off till I saw your message. Try logging off and see what happens. -
Looking at that cage, I cant see it projecting on to the full screen, only part of it, unless they project through part of the cage as the hole does not seem big enough. Just had this issue ourselves and to get it to project to a large screen we couldnt put any cage underneath, that would be useful in protecting the projector if you get what I mean. Ended up accepting that fact and just making a frame that protected the projector from balls hitting it from the side and front. Bear in mind we are a primary school so maybe we can get away with a bit less protection, saying that its only about 2m from the basketball net! Just hope they cant throw basketballs that high!

It always helps to have a backup plan...just in case when teaching. We've all had it where it's all planned and just as you want them to do something, you can't get WIFi for some reason etc. There is no set answer what to do as backup, just be able to think quickly, having a solid knowledge of the topic helps. Problems usually occur when you only know one set thing you are teaching, I did observe a students lesson once and when it didnt quite go as expected he just quit the lesson he was doing instead of thinking on his feet and just modifying what he was trying to achieve. So I suppose there is a backup plan, know your subject well enough to be flexible when needed.

[wds] Execute elevated program on first login

How did you do it? Solution might be handy for others in the same situation. -
Has anyone used this online management of tablets. Got it set up and just tried to enrol an android tablet with the provided code but it just seems to sit there on the webpage with a circle icon round round and around. Tried doing it via the installed app but that just says failed when I enter the code and try to enrol the tablet. Do I need to unblock something somewhere? I can get to the Meracki web pages fine and looked at the help pages where it says what ip's to allow, tried them in a browser and they take me to the sign in page so I presume they are OK. Not sure what to check now.

Hmmm, not thought of that way!, but that requires them all to be on at the same time and that's unfortunately not always guaranteed, but thanks anyway. All the PC's have yet to be joined to the domain so may get the technician to just run the script after they have done that if I cant get it sorted.

As the title says, after this summers upgrade to W7 and they way its being imaged to each PC I will need to reset the WSUS id etc on each PC(had to do this at the last school last summer but did it manually on each PC). I have a batch file I can run that does all the re-initailisation, stopping and starting services etc but I would like to do it automatically just the once. Would rather do it without having to resorting to creating a check file and checking its existence etc. Anyone got any ideas, via GPO?

Well must be the season for it as just had a very similar situation with an old server although for 2003, problem getting raid driver and spent ages trying so as tbere is only a single disk in the server at the moment and others can be added as separate as needed...figured out easiest option was to just turn raid off in bios! hey presto now got server up and running. Bit of a cop out I know but got what I wanted in end as I didnt need raid anyway for what its doing, incidentaly raid was on board LSI as well. May help you move forward.

Thanks, managed it now with that and done it via a vbs

Just been looking at this with the possibility of using it for some of my groups to co-edit documents and I would like them to be able to access the skydrive via a network mapped drive when they logon. Seen a few pages on the net of howto's but for whatever reason cant seem to get it to work i.e. one app to give me the paths to map just said I didn't have any folders and another just said I was using the wrong format for the 'net use'. If anyone has done it can they help with an example and a simpletons guide as it seems I need one!

Habbit? Was told I needed to do it in the good old days, have seen the arguments for and against, but now on W7 been a while since I did it, anyway, didnt know if a server was any different. Its a liog story why I need to change the name but that advice sounds fine to me, thanks.

If I change the name of a server install (its not running anything like dhcp etc, its just a PC with Server 2003 basic installed on it) would I have to run the NewSid utility as I used to do with XP renames?

I will have soon 3 iPads and 3 iPods to set up for school, not alot and they will only be used for assessment so only one app but the question is do I just set one apple account up (a free one with no card details) and use the same deatails for each one I set up or does each one need a separate account? I'm sure the answer is just one account so just wanting to confirm this before I start.
-
Can someone suggest a compact storage/charge unit that is lockable for at least 3 ipad minis and 3 ipods in the same unit with room for a few more later. Dont want it to be too bulky as its for the foundation unit. No need for any sync etc really as its only going to be used for assessment software, just need it for charge and secure storage. The ipads etc will have protective cases on so must be able to store them with the cases on. Nothing like being given plenty of time to sort out!

I live in Doncaster and the train station is linked to the Bus station so I would presume a bus route exists, just checked and a bus journey is approx 24min. Just use the travelsouthyorkshire website.
-
Not gone the mdt route as I dont image PC's offen enough to warrant the time spent setting it up etc so I just use Clonezilla for our needs and it has been fine so far. First year I have used VirtualBox though to create the master image, been well worth it so far.

[ipad] Buying iTunes/App Store gift vouchers
TechSupp replied to sidewinder's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Yes, to set up a free account with no card details just dowload a free app first then follow prompts to set up an account, took me a while to find that out...doh! -
Not used HyperV but just created our W7 master image using VirtualBox and its worked really well. Allowed me to test things and creatdx snap shots at variuos points...just in case.

Just comming up to my 50th later this year, age was just a number until last year my wife had her 50th and organised a party etc, now I think about that number and how old I am. Never used to bother me! Leave me alone! Get asked what am I going to do for my birthday to celebrate, don't know, never really celebrated them before, head in sand mode, if I don't recognise them it's just a number and it means nothing, stay young in the head even if the body these days says otherwise! But should I do something or just ignore it like every other one?

Yes would probably get best deal on a Toshiba and then buy LearnPad as a add on for content and management, however....when talking to LearnPad they were just looking at some higher power/spec tablets but it's all about cost, depends if they can keep cost down on them. So you have to make a choice and as said with hindsight I would have bought less but higher spec and then bought content as all I get at moment is complaints! Reason I suggested Toshiba is purely that I know they have worked with LearnPad to make sure the tablets are compatitable. I think you can put it on other android tablets but you would need to check with LearnPad.
-
No sorry,it seems its not so much the wifi of the tablet (although I think this is a contributing factor) but the spec of the tablet itself. Its just a slow system. Have spoken to them and they acknowledge this but you get what you pay for, cant expect a ferrari for the price of a mini really. Its all very well, but in hindsight if we had our time again I would probably still get LearnPad but not get as many and buy better tablets such as the Toshiba that works with it due to the performance.
