  1. Yes they can code but not maybe in the sense you think, I've taught them to program a series of steps using BeeBots to follow the path the Goldilocks house on a mat, record the steps in symbols on paper, hey presto they have produced their first algorithm! A series of defined steps to solve a problem. Its all possible, just a little lateral thinking is required.
  2. Yes good to chat and see how the stand was doing, was surprised to see pizza left and it was after 2!
  3. Yes, have scripted it in one school where we deploy with scripts and just had it check the name and if it contained 'netbook' don't install printers which seems to have worked so far but at the other school we had they set by GPO to see if that sorted our original issue of slow loading on netbooks. May end up going back to scripting as it seems to work.
  4. Yes, I had a similar solution, it turned out to be the printers loading but only affected the netbooks, PC's were fine so took the decision to just not have printers on netbooks which all agree is fine so long as the kids can save work to their folders which they can.
  5. We have our printer assigned by GPO by user but due to speed issues I want to have the netbooks (in their own ou) to not have the printers loaded no matter who logs on. Is this possible/easy to do?
  6. Interesting as we also have had issues with MyMaths not running on android tablets. I saw the info about Puiffin Acaemy I think it was on the Education City site. Have got it loaded up in Meraki to install but yet to try it.
  7. No not just web sites, even tried playing a sound effect in Scratch. Now heres the strange bit, just went to a folder containing mp3 and wav, played them no problem, now everything works as normal! but....another child reported the same issue on another PC, went to test it and thats now fine just by logging back on! I give up! Glad I'm away at BETT for two days this week!
  8. Thanks, can't do that as the files are included in the website i.e. EducationCity etc. Tried the Media Player fix and still no joy. Its annoying as I know the h'phones work and it plays mp3's fine!
  9. Strange one, had a complaint headphones were not working so checked them and yes, no sound, so checked obvious, volume OK, played a track in Media Player and all was fine, checked in Realtex utility and test played fine, adjusted windows volume and it 'binged' and me when I adjuted it to a new level but...go into Lexi, Education City, Scratch silence! There used to be a setting for WAV sound level in XP but cant find it in W7, just wondered if that was it or is it something else?
  10. Will definately be dropping by!
  11. Having a few issues here and looking for inspiration! I have a WSUS up and running on our 2003 server, clients are all listed in it, all moved into their groups, updates downloaded and ready to install, clients just say not reported in yet! On a client tried the update, stop service, detect now etc etc but nothing. Looked at the windowsupdatelog and it says: What am I looking at and what do I need to check? I can see its failing but from what!
  12. Thanks but it must have been a glitch as I tried again at the weekend and all was back to normal, vendor names all there etc! Deployed as well. Can't seem to get it to deploy more than one app at a time at the moment to a group of tablets. Eventually getting there.
  13. Interesting that, I learn something every day!
  14. In school we set proxy settings in IE to get on the Internet, no usual problems but have a laptop, not on the domain, so I have the settings manually set in IE. When at school I tick the box to use a proxy, when at home I untick, simples..or so I thought. This laptop when connected in school and connected to the school wifi and the proxy is unticked will not connect to google etc (so far so good) BUT if I go to our council webmail service https://webmail etc (its outlook) it connects! There is a message saying serching for our proxy address then it shows the web page and all works (so not cached). How does that work? Where does it get the proxy info from? Yours Mystyfied!
  15. Sorry to bump this but anyone? Bit stuck now as can't seem to load any apps by it.
  16. Strange this topic has come up as I am having difficulty getting my sleep pattern right as well, same thing, was ok a week ago now go to bed and....nothing, taken to listening to a relaxation Cd I have (got it from flebay ages ago). Works for a while as I nod off part way through it, so relaxation may be the key. Funny how a few are having same issue.
  17. We have been using the Meraki MDM system for a while and all was well before Christmas to install android apps but now when I try it just stops with an error that Vendor information cannot be blank! Existing apps do not show any vendor info and new ones to be added also don't show any? Can someone try this on their system and see if its not just me or has anyone else come across this issue? Also seem that free support has stopped apart from the Knowledgebase unless you are an Enterprise user unless I am reading that wrongly on the website? I know the product was free but getting us all using it then dropping support for us is a little annoying to say the least.
  18. Thanks, our server not setup with that print role yet. Would it cause any issues if I set it up as a print server to test it out on a test OU but left the others loading printers via a script at the moment.
  19. Well a good start to the day, managed to get a quick logon and no delays from a netbook once I stopped the script that loaded the printers, even better the coordinator was quite happy at that solution, saving work from netbooks but no printing however... its not ideal so next step is to load printers via GPO instread and see if problem occurs. Is it an easy job to set printers to load via a GPO, not done that before.
  20. Thanks, just reading the blurb now.
  21. I want to look at setting up google apps and gone to the sign up page and was faced by this: "You have technical understanding to implement APIs for your school" So I am now stuck at the first fence, haven't got a clue what that means or what it entails. Anyone shed any light on it that have done it before. Not bothered about having email or calendar but really word processing and spreadsheets and the drive space for pupils etc.
  22. Quickly heckled on a PC and DHCP lease set to 8 days. Another job for the New Year List
  23. Sounds about right that, well at this time of day it sounds plausable. As you said how we would get around this issue dont know. could half it by just installing one printer for netbooks as the colour MFD does do b&w as well? supose testing without printers would prove this one way or another...one for he after Christmas list.
  24. The printers are Panasonic MFD's, colour and B+W. May be due to the speed of the netbooks and the drivers installing, could they be waiting for confirmation etc but its not showing as we have turned UAC messages turned off etc as I said clutching at straws!
  25. Interesting, if we could get rid of that delay, they would be acceptable, sure we didnt have it before we went to w7. Been looking at possibly adding a nano usb wifi adaptor, tried some Dynamode ones 150Mbps, but no better as still got that delay altbough testing the speed they are twice as fast as the internal card.
