Need to put office on a new 64bit laptop (rest of our system is 32bit) and thought I would download (we have the ELS license) the 64bit office but in the blurb on the download its says: "Microsoft strongly recommends the use of 32-bit (x86) versions of Office 2010, Project 2010, and Visio 2010 applications as the default option for all platforms.", Now do I just install our usual 32bit version of 2010 on 64 bit then, thought the idea was to go all 64bit?

Yep, done that so can see names but cant see that column when using a file selection dialogue box, thatz half my problem.

Thanks, but that was one of the options given on here somewhere. Dont want to go messing with the folder structure now as everyone back in on Monday and not risking doing it remotely. What about the quick and dirty fix of just deleting all the desktop.ini files found? Have got a routine that will do that as each user logs off but dont know if that would work.

System almost ready for next week and just looking at home folder and notice that user folders are now My Documents. I know of this problem and when setting it up a powershell script to deny users access to the desktop.ini to stop this and it seemed to be working, however now users are logging on I seem to have My Documents again? We use redirected folders etc and local profiles and did read that this goes away after first creation of that local profile? Anyone confirm that? Whats the best way to stop this happening or can I just do a massive search and delete of all the desktop.ini files in the folders of the users in the home directory? I have for the moment just added the Filename column to the explorer view to see whats what but not ideal as I need to run a file dialogue box which shows up the folder names as displayed and I cant see which one to select as it stands only in a windows explorer view.

Had long logins with ours, Ruckus but that was down to rather large profiles not Ruckus. Started to standardise the profiles and make everyone mandatory which improved things. Just changed over to W7 with redirected everything so will see how that goes. Make sure you got good switches as no point everything going through a 100 switch if everyone is trying to pull down large profiles over wifi.

Argh!!!!!!! Anyone managed this! Setting a normal template with no paragraph spacing, checked it, loggon on, new doc has large paragraph spacing! Cant seem to get it to start up with our settings. How do people do it? Copy normal template to user location on login or with workgroup templates?

Ah, think I found out whats up,,needed to do workgroup templates setting rather than user template setting! Same location just different setting.

I presume its possible to have a standard word template set up so that its the same for everyone when they start a new.doc? Tried by creating one in a shared central area then adding the location to the office gpo but it just asks users to save the changes to the global template when they exit a blank doc, they cant as I dont want the standard changed. How should this be achieved?

Whats the current thinking on profiles and W7 clients, just about to get all the clients on W7 with documents, desktop, menus etc. Etc redirected rather than rely on standard mandatory profiles which we used with XP. With XP we ran a script to delete all profiles on the clients at log off, do i still need to do this now with W7 or has this been negated, if its still required can it be done via a gpo setting. Whats the benefits of deleting them rather than just leaving them alone? Must slow logons if they have to be recreated each time? Your ideas and views gentlemen and women please.

Is it possible to have our w7 pc's when they start up or are logged off to go straight to the screen asking for login details rather than having the pupils to press ctrl alt del to get to it? Is there an option to do it via gpo?

Hmmmm...so its looking like a good decision then. If delete the local profile (we do at the moment at shutdown with a delprof2 script) what benefit would that have? Any downsides? Saving settings on a prog etc? Dont know if its a contributing factor but the test PC we have is amazing when logging on to the domain to get to the desktop. Was an age before but now its w7, from cold boot its to logon screen in no time and to desktop from login blistering (comparted to existing xp, must do a comparisson test). this is not a mega pc either, a dual core with 2gb ram, even a test celeron 2.6 with 1gb will beat the existing xp one!

Just changing over to W7 in the summer and the question has come up about user profiles. We currently have teacher roaming profiles and pupils to a single mandatory profile. Its been suggested that we dont bother with the profiles and just have everything redirected, documents, music, desktop, start menu etc. Going to change it so that everyone, staff and pupils will hav e the same W7 experience, desktop and start menu wise and lock it all down. We have a test PC set up with a test OU etc and looks fine to me and cant believe the difference in logon times from cold and from logn to desktop compared with our current XP system. While I can see the benefit in all the redirection, are we going to hit any pitfalls and has anyone gone down this route?

Found a service manual and it looks like a motor that drives the door direct so will see. Dont know how it happened just that it stopped.working!

Has anyone had a short throw Hitachi projector (ours is the ed-A110) that has had the door with the mirrored lens which flips down stop working. The motor.runs but the door just swings free as though the rack its on has become disengaged. Its out of warranty and been told it coukd be an expensive repair and not viable. Can it be fixed easily? Sure I read on here someone having a similar issue but cant find the thread.

Just tried booting from windows dvd on usb dvd drive, hit key to boot from cd...just reboots! No joy booting from winpe boot usb drive. Just put a drive in from another PC (same make etc) and it just booted in to xp no problem so its not the PC...stumped!

Just come to the last PC to be imaged (all same image and syspreped), imaged other PC's fine, booted installed etc etc, the last one imaged it but it just wont boot from the drive, its in bios etc It just goes through all the boot options then starts again. Did have xp on before now shoild be w7. Its a NEC ML450 (not my particular fav and less now!) All rest were fujitsu. Thinking its the drive not marked as boot (had once before with a samsung) how can I check/set boot flag? Usually use sysrescuecd but of course its at home! Or is it something else? Just checked and first 100mb partition is marked as primary and active as viewed in partitionmagic.

As just looking at imagex and clonezilla thought crossed my mind, like for like, image to USB ext drive and restore from it which would be the quicker? Clonezilla run from CD and imagex run from PE USB bootable flash drive.

I want to make my usb memory stick bootable, found some guides on the web and not having much sucess. I just want to boot on to the stick so I can run the ms Imagex tool to image the drive on to another external USB drive (or even if I can make the external drive bootable). Was supposed to be just for a quick job but turning out in to a longer one. Usually use clonezilla, just thought I would look at imagex.

Trying to automate things for staff and we use testbase but I wanted to simplyfy the process i.e. save them having to remember the login details. Is there a way to automate this into a shortcut I could place on the desktop so its more readily available?
