Got two schools using them, so not just same kids. Fraid its just kids not treating equip with respect, fed up of putting ear pads back on. It one of those things, I even teach them but never see this stuff going off, except I still find the box full of loose ear pads, the mic volume control split in two! (thats got to be malicious).
-
Just run it from a windows share, (unless thats not possible on a CC4 system, no experience of it)
-
Sorry but use these in our primaries and they are not lasting two minutes before the ear pads come off or rather taken off, the mic/volume control is broken or they end up only working on one side due to cable being pulled. I know its down to teachers looking after them while kids in but that in the real worl just does not happen however much I want it to. Fed up with replacing them, but if I could get hold of the Hills ones think that may cut problems down though.

Just looking at using delprof2 in a logoff script from the server for our XP clients. Do I need to specify the option to supply the remopte computer name to Delprof2 or can I just use the normal quiet, no interaction options etc as I'm going to set it as a logoff file to run in the GPO?

Has anyone managed to get hold of any of these though? Hills Components UK certainly look the job, braided cable, moulded microphone etc, price was good when we saw them at BETT but they always seem to say out of stock.

Followed the link and did the changes as originally posted, but what do I do with the mst files? Sorry never done anything with these before. Edit: Ok, just googled it, need to remove current msi I created, re add it but add the mst to the modifications tab if I've read it correctly.

How to Setup WSUS on 2003/2008/2008 R2 Server
TechSupp replied to Michael's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Well, managed to breathe life in to the WSUS server again and I can confirm now that a WSUS server can be on its own and the clients can be told where it is via our DC server GPO, very happy now! Funny how little things like that keep you going. My main problem was getting the original install uninstalled, had to use the MS cleanup utility to get rid of it then reinstall it. Clients started replying to it fairly quickly as well after it was synchronised. Happy bunny now. -
Star prize on its way to you sir! Didnt take much guessing once I had a look at what was running at start up.

How to Setup WSUS on 2003/2008/2008 R2 Server
TechSupp replied to Michael's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Dragging this back up again, sorry. I had set up a WSUS server (ran dhcp, ad, etc etc) that worked just fine untill the server itself started playing up so we had a new server to run AD, DHCP ect except WSUS. We had the old server demoted from a domain controller to a plain old PC running Server 2003, now the question is can I still run WSUS on the PC running Server 2003 and have the WSUS group policy manage the clients on the new 2008 R2 server? Trying to fix the original 2003 install at the moment but cant figure out if its truly broken or not possible to run it in this way or not which is why it wont play ball? -
Well got it sorted in the end, just went down the brute force route. Qres etc was working fine, just intel software was resetting it afterwards so I just used msconfig to stop the utility running and the refreshrate.exe that was set to run and all is now fine. Luckily it was not a large set of PC's so it didnt take two minutes really to change them all.

Does anyone know if there is an msi version of MS Silverlight or how I can get it quickly installed across the network? Usually just use our WSUS server but it been down for a while due to server issues (replaced it now) but it was not high on the list to fix but they just bought software which needs it!
-
Thanks, that sounds about right. Without sounding a bit thick, how or where do I set the registry enrty in GPP?
-
I have Qres set on our login scripts for users which has usually worked but the last batch of machines we have just put in seem to reset their screen res to a much higher setting than what we want. I presume its the graphics software in someway overriding the qres after it has been run at logon but any ideas where to look or what to do to stop it happening? They have Intel graphics and drivers setup and they are HP DC7900 PC's running XP joint to a 2008 R2 domain.

Can someone from yhgfl confirm if they still advise users to hold off implementing v10 as per website note or has that been superceeded now and its ok to use?

Sophos EC5
TechSupp replied to Bluetooth's topic in Yorkshire & Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL)
Is the latest v10 of Sophos any less resource hungry, using 9.7 and it kills pc performance at start up while dones its jobs updating and scanning i presume. When can we go to 10, as we only use the av part of sophos, will the bits causing concern affect us? -
Could it be a firewall issue, think there is a fix somewhere for it. Maybe why w7 does not havef the issue?
-
Sorry dont know version as its the council setup, just seems strange can do it with everything else just not fromboutlook itself! If i cant get it going so be it i suppose, just annoying.

Is there any restriction on connecting to an exchange server for email etc with regard to the version of outlook I am using (2003)? Having issues at home getting my account to verify me yet have managed to set it up via iPod and android phone just fine. Bit mystified as to why Outlook is giving me grief.

I know some on here use CCleaner on network PC's but do you run it as a logon batch file? Thinking about using it to just tidy them up a bit (fed up of teachers leaving recycle bin full etc) but just wondered if there were options to set to make it run in the background etc. If there is an example would be nice.

Anyone got or know of a simple guide how to sysprep a machine before imaging including any gotchas? Sure I had some instructions from here before but as usual now I want them I cant find them!

Might seem like a daft question but how do you turn off the audio comming out of the PC speaker when the headphones are not plugged in apart from the obvious disconnect the speaker wires or is that the only option?
-
Sorted it in the end by googling the device ID and pc model, ended up it was some Intel Management and Security Status software (from the HP site) for the HD. Once installed, it was as happy as Larry but dont knwo what the software actually does as it seemed to work absoluelty fine without it, just didnt like seeing the yellow exclamation mark there.

Got a HP7900 desktop and I have two items I have in Device manager with exclamation marks in the other devices section, one is 'PCI Serial Port' and the other is Unknown Device. As far as I can tell I have loaded all the drivers from the HP site but dont know what they can be. Any ideas how to identify what they may be, may stand a chance at getting the drivers loaded then?

Job tested and it now works! One simple tweak and alls well that ends well.
