  1. Latest update is that the poe switch has died with no power to the APs, temp one installed and so far good results! Awaiting new replacement poe switch to see if it was coincidence or just a faulty new switch from the beginning, however does not explain difference between testers laptop and samsung netbook side by side test.
  2. Just been asked by admin in there is a cheapish online diary that would be accessible by pc, android and iphone apps? We are only a primary school so nothing major is required just appointments/scheduling events etc. Therefore as I dont know I've come to the font of all knowledge...edugeek
  3. Just to clarify my original message as it seems it has been taken the wrong way, my Ruckus system was not installed by Net-Ctrl (Aggy) but by another local Ruckus supplier. My refference to Aggy was that she tried so very hard for me with getting a really competative quote for the job but in the end the school went elsewhere. Take my hat off to Aggy as her endevours to get us a good quote were exemplary. Net-Ctrl have also offered advice to us since over our problem as they had experienced similar issues before so its hats off to them and I will have no hesitation asking them for a quote next time if I need one. Hope that clears any mistunderstanding up. ps Hope to see you at again BETT 2012 Aggy
  4. Yes he came out with a scanner and no interference could be seen, I watch it myself. Did mention it to him and he checked to see if any alarm PIRs etc were interfering.
  5. Sorry to bring this old thread to the surface again but I have had UltraVNC on our server (its uninstalled) and had issues with that server after running Italc on our whiteboard PC. Its seems coincidental (all sorted after a reboot) as its happened a couple of times. The server in question is our backup DC and it just seems to stop responding and then logons (all done by the primary DC) start to fail or timeout and the pc's go into crawl mode! Main question is changing the port is that done on every PC with italc on it or just the master one? Could be coinicidental as I say.
  6. I'll report what the engineers findings are in case it can shed some light on your case.
  7. Now theres a question! It used to be WPA-PSK on the AP we originally used and outgrew but not sure what has been set up on the Ruckus as its not been working enough for me to play with it and have a look around. Leaving well alone till its working, then if its working will still probably leave well alone! Anyway engineer thinks he may have a solution so will see when he comes out next week. Fairly confident he will get to bottom of it.
  8. Vle's, adding extras or directories to web site or moodle all out of the equation. In the meantime looked at Google Docs...job done! Should have looked first but didnt have time this morning when I posted. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  9. Been asked by the head who was asked by the governors can we provide a secure area on our website for docs which can be updated by them regularily i.e. list of tasks to do then ticked off when completed. The answer for our website is no, so anyone got any ideas what online way I could do it. Initial ideas are a Googledoc which they all have the login to and they can just update as they need to and just a link to it from our site. Can it be set so the doc can be linked to but when clicked requires a login to see? Not played with Google Docs yet.
  10. Firmware just been upgraded but still have problems, in one area outside a classroom that had an AP in it the NC10 on test was getting a speed test of 3Mb whereas the Toshiba laptop he was using to scan and test the network was getting 60Mb, moved to another area and near another AP and the laptop was getting 50Mb and the NC10 21Mb, figure that out! Anyway they have taken away a netbook to test on their own Ruckus network to see what the issues maybe are with the netbooks. We await and will see.
  11. Should just be a command line option to start a ppt which I've found but not got chance to see if it just loops then I need another command line option to kill the process or shut it down nicely, two scheduled tasks as far as I see it.
  12. Going to get the kids to create some powerpoints for me to display and I want to schedule them to start at the begiinging of the daty and finish when they finish. Is there a command line option so that the presentation will loop continuously once started and then what command could I use to stop the presentation? Using PowerPoint XP version.
  13. Got ver2 working OK here, bit of a fiddle admittedly but fine once I got one pc and the teacher pc working together. Ended up using the bat files above but had to install from a unc path rather than a mapped drive as the service failed when I tried from a mapped drive, works fine now apart from the bugs already found, demo not working, missing task bar at bottom of screen when comming out of lock. For what I use it for, monitoring what they do and reviewing their work while they are all sat in front of me (primary) is brilliant. Remote connect is great so we can edit and correct each others work while sat together. This is all on an XP based system.
  14. Yes just done my first upgrade today.
  15. Hardly got any laptops (if any) connecting at the moment, would be happy with just getting the netbooks up and running.
  16. Thanks will relay that to the engineer on Monday, Its set up to be able to handle n and g but we only have the NC10's and they are g only. We have some newer laptops for teachers but not cheched what they are connecting at, b or g yet.
  17. Thats interesting as currently having similar problems and channel 6 is being used. Got them in on Monday with an anyliser so will mention that to them. Ours is a Ruckus network, can we stop it using channels 6-8? We have a door system that uses wireless as well as an alarm system so could be that.
  18. I do it in primary, cheap as chips. 6mx8m green screen plus stands plus lights on stands approx £120 ebay, use a digital camera that takes movies (but an actual video camera would be better of course) and put it all together in Corel VideoStudio x4 £54 Amazon. Not live chromakey but works. For live you could use Kudlian I can Present software, (there is a trial version). Example of one we did before the summer is here: Balby Central Primary School scroll down the page fro eco news, (the rockets vid is good as well but not chromakey, I'm just a big kid really)
  19. Only one DNS server on the domain, but as for checking those records I'd need more info on how to do it and what I'm supposed to be looking for. This kind of problem is a bit beyond my current knowledge. Just rebooted both servers and all seems to be back up and running, can browse by name and IP whereas before I could only browse the main server (dns, dhcp etc) by IP which is why things failed I thing, it just did not know how to process the server name and hence redirections for folders. profiles and desktop etc. Interested to know what it could have been though, some mismatch between the servers although I have my suspicions about the backup server as it has hung in the past.
  20. Just got a strage issue occur on the network, everything has been fine and worked fine this am yet come this lunchtime/pm intermittent issues of PC's not logging on for 'Logon Failure: the target account is incorrect' and saying we dont have permission to access the global desktop folder. Bit of research shows I can browse the backup server by ip and name but the main server by ip only, by name it fails with the same error (global desktop held on here). Any ideas or will a reboot work? Desperate to fix this as I'm not in tomnorrow and cant leave it like this.
  21. Our school printing is done via a shared out MFD as in title on our 2003 32 bit server, all is well and fine with 32 bit win XP but the latest laptops been given to set up are 64Bit, so went and got the 64bit PCL6 driver from Panasonic site and installed it locally on the laptop, told it the IP of the printer, it goes through the motions, dissapears from the print que, says its done but no print appears at the printer. Printer is fine, I can ping it from the laptop and I installed the other printer a RICOH Aficio 5000 the same way and that works to a tee. Only difference was that the Ricoh drivers were found automatically by Win7 and the Panasonic one during setup did warn me they were not signed and did I still want to go ahead, which I did. Any ideas as I am stumped what to do to get it going? Should there be something I need to check or untick somewhere? Cant be the server as it should be going direct to the IP as the share drivers are only 32bit and no option to add a win7 64 bit driver.
  22. Thanks for the reply, that explained alot. Went and updated the driver on 30 netbooks today and no different (well apart from the driver version now being 9 rather than 7). Updated 4 laptops and they logged on fine, updated another 10 and tried to log them all on and two of the initial four failed trying to load the profile and did a local one, and three of the 10 failed to log properly. Did the other 16 while I had the chamnce as time is short. Did notice that on those that had logged on although the signal always reported as very good or excellent when I tried to access a network drive it sometimes failed and then at the second attemp on another one displayed the files, then back on the first and that was ok as though it had lost the connection and selecting a drive caused it to reinitiate it. Laymans descriptions as as you may have gathered wireless is not my speciality! and with these problems not likely to be! Going to get the installer involved again as I can identify the problems not the solution. On one AP I monitored the signal using WIFI Analyser on my android phone (basic I know) but it is not a steady signal (realtime graph of signal strength) its up then down then up then down etc not talking fluctuations but high on then disapears then back etc. Any ideas..interference? Its not faulty AP as it was swapped first time I saw it and then it was looking a stable signal but its doing it again. Even got to stage of thinking if its worth the overhead of running them on a domain and just using them as local logins in a workgroup as they are netbooks?
  23. Hey, I'm glad I'm not the only one, thought you were describing my job! I'm in the same position here although I work in two schools doing the same thing. Just remember there are only so may hours in a day and so many of them are yours and yours only! They have to recognise time off schedule for 'techy' bits is a necessity not something that you will just manage to fit in.
  24. Had a Ruckus network installed in the summer (sorry Aggy) and all seemed well untill it was used in anger and now I'm getting it in the neck. We are having difficulty getting a class full of netbooks to log on correctly, some log on fine and some just wont find the profile to load (then when I try again its fine) and load a temporary one. They check out as having a wireless connection but having difficulty when logging on. The netbooks and server are fine as they worked OK when we just used a single AP (Netgear). Had the engineer out and he tested it and said the speed of downloads were fine when he had a connection which is fine but its getting it to log on reliably thats the problem. Now as I'm very new to Ruckus a couple of questions: Should two adjacent AP's show the same channel? Did a wireless survey for signam strenth with some free software 'Ekahau HeatMapper' and it showed two next to each other on channel 6, the next time I tried it they had changed, so does Ruckus do the managemnet and allocation automatically all the time and should there end up with two the same next to each other? Looking at the netbooks the drivers were the origianl installed ones (Atheros) and looking at the Samsung site the latest are a much later version. Dounloaded them but not had the chance to install yet. Could this solve my problems having them on the latest version (cant harm anyway!) Cant remember the model number of the AP's but looking at the heat maps are they directional? Some seem to give much better coverage in some directions although it could be down to building structure, so just wondering. Anyone suggest anything else I should check who have had this combination before (Know SimpleSi on here has had). Will be upgrading the wireless drivers as a fisrt line of investigation anyway, any settings I should change other than leaving them as standard? Leaving them as windows managing the wireless rather than the supplied utility anyway.
