Schools Broadband Internet Issues
lordasb replied to JazzFlute's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
i am going thought a retender of my feeds to a single school but with split site. i am building my own smoothwalls with links between them, we own the hardware, we own and run the config, with a direct contract with smoothwall for support. thus the ISP is just a connection, they control nothing of my config , only that they provide the IP address which i use to route my traffic from and to. each smoothwall has 2 external links, in Link load balanced mode so i can change ISP without a major rebuild. yes the 15+ years with sophos, TMG, cisco and smoothwalls setup and management helps me in this role but with the right support you could mange these and remove the need for the ISP to have a strangle hold over the configs or ownership of the system. If they cant provide what is needed take the step and take your systems back to your control 🙂 PS i was with E2bn which is now part of TS/SBB but thankfully its effectively just e2bn used wavenet so i dont struggle with the issues of their service. the main feed is BT but i am looking to move away as they cant quote a good price for a 1gb feed, cant afford a 10gb with 2gb link sadly. -

i am also looking at the backup side of office 365 got a quote for https://www.g2.com/products/cloudally-office-365-backup/reviews#survey-response-5411332 which is cost effective against barracuda but i am a long time user of barracuda products. any one else use other providers than barracuda?

WordShark - SCCM deployment not working
lordasb replied to mullet_man's topic in Educational Software
yes if your on full RDS but this is test bed client so does not play so nicely, ended up using a real local machines, shortcut running from the network share and then mapping to the sharedfolder. must say its not the nicest install and one we will be looking to phase out for a cloud based offering asap. this sadly does not scale and is a stop gap solution. -

can someone post a snip of what their numbershare-shared$ folder looks like please? I shared it in my first post but have tried moving it to the C:\white space software\White Space Ltd\Numbershark 5 Network folder as well that does not work either. will try manually installing it to a test VM and seeing what it says. -

hi Mullet_man nothing just that its errored, starting back with the server side tonight, checking step by step again, even though its running i think its the folder is just wrong from my end. hi daveashworth i will take a look finished checking the core steps :-) -
I had a meeting today with our rep from ESS, no movement from the 3 year offering. The only item I did get confirmation of is that 3rd party subscriptions via ESS do not have the same 3 year renewal term. This effects 2 line items from our renewal. You would be wise to confirm which line items are affected for your renewal. They also confirmed the same applies for the enhanced support services from ESS which we purchase, being linked to a 3 year term. If there is anything else i will update the post.

well my battle with numbershark is still going down, really love that replies here are being added to the installer but, dam its complex. 21 years and this i think is the hardest one yet and that includes some of the exam software with 3 different parts.. my issue, server is running and up, make the shared folder and installed following the guides included to make the sccm part which sadly fails. tried to go old school and just install the dam client on a test VM, just says that number shark cant be found at the numbershark-shared$ folder. looks right, but who knows at this time of night. at this point i might just delete it all and start again part from the server licence side of course as thats working. -
We are a large school but also part of the mat, I had a call with our account manager asking them to confirm the following Of the 7 line items we order which of those are locked to the 3 year term, if so we would look to either drop them and move to Microsoft teams for those parts, or in the case of NovaT have already moved away. She did the stock " this is the answer to the one year question" before seeing my point that we would see them as optional add on's to the core package and that throwing it on the end of the renewal was a little wrong and should have been communicated in a more formal way. Will post reply when and if I get one.

we have entrasys wireless network here at TDA, most number of clients off 3 AP's has been 500 items connected, had to up the IP block to a /15 to give me enough IP's for future proofing. none of them know they are only connected to 3 AP's we also looked at other options for one of our primary schools, hp came back with a option which would offer the 5GHz to ipads and 2.4 to every windows laptop. had some really silly prices bounced about by some of them providers listed on this site. anyone else found some of them to be what i would say is mega bucks for wireless only solutions without being able to offer the backbone hard switches.

if you have never been outside of LA controlled Connection there are many things to review and issues which might effect and add costs to the base cost of the link. we have allways been outside of the local LA in peterborough but have moved to the LA connection but with a unfiltered feed. so we manage the email, internet, spam, firewall both first and second line, vpn, remote citrix, ssl's, dns settings. if you want to get a feel you could drop me a line.
