  1. Yes, had this as well, fortunatly only one teacher reported it so i manually rolled that back.
  2. Might seem a strang request but I have a brother out in China and he needs to use an online calendar to organise shift work for people etc. Now Google mail etc would be great except the Chinese Gov apparently keep messing with Google and its not a workable solution so he's asked me if I know of any other free alternatives as its a voluntary organisation. I dont know of any so I'm asking the much wiser masses!
  3. Just had two servers at my primaries, hollywood and goliath
  4. Set the default home page in ad in 2003 but new to 2008 and cant for the life of me remember or find where it is set in 2008 (seems alot more options). Anyone tell me a dummys path to where it is set in a policy?
  5. Done it year ago and it was just a case of putting the details on the relevant section of the Log book form (the one you get when you purchase the car) and sending to them. May have of course changed since then. Does it not say on the DVLA site?
  6. We have Smartboards in foundation/Nursery and it works quite well. Using a step I have been told is a nightmare H+S wise as they end up reaching them falling off as they look what they are doing. At the schools I work with they have the Hitachi short throw projectors and have it installed as low as it can safely be (for teachers head height etc), then the kids use a drumstick (the one with the big ball type end on, cant you tell I'm not musical!) to access the board. Works well and no damage to surface of board. Could use a stick with a small soft ball on the end.
  7. I just create a shortcut for the website required and place it in a common shared area. Seems to work just fine and once teachers realise they can do this and have their Internet shortcuts anywhere (at home or work) they find it great.
  8. Had similar issue with another Sanyo, sent away and it turned out to be a bulb fault although it lit and was within expected life hours. Bit costly to just get a bulb and try, pity no other way to test.
  9. Whooohooo! We have lift off, printing is back on line :-) Dont know what happend there, yet another mystery as nothing jumps out at me from the event viewer.
  10. That last option was tried earlier on this year! Thats why we bought the new domain controller server. Not printing is not a priority but logging on and getting to files is so we left the prinetrs and sphos and wsus on the old server for the moment. Anyway ist come back online and now remote desktops in to it so fingers crossed. Boy and I glad of this forum!
  11. Well it didnt reboot, just sat there allowing me to browse the files via My Computer! Anyway had a brainwave and used GenControl (vnc in the background) and ity connected to the server. Everything looked OK apart from Sophos had some error messages (used to those!), so just rebooted it from the menu as normal. Now awaiting to see if someone will check to see if my test print has appeared!
  12. Thanks for all the quick replies, looked at the shutdown -i but no computers appeared in the list (was doing it from the other main domain server), its the print/backup domain server thats playing up. Did shutdown /r /m \\servername just awaiting results of that.
  13. One of my servers has misbehaved and is not printing or allowing me to remore desktop in to it, although I can browse its files and folders and ping it. Can I reboot it remotely from a command prompt as cant get out to it (its in another school) just yet and dont really want to use the alternative of getting someone to press and hold the power button to force it off!
  14. Have you got any instructions how you did it? Which iso did you use? Currently trying it on a NB30 but only got it running so far by selecting Vesa and its very slow and unresponsive. Using VirtualBox to test it.
  15. Phoar!!!!!!!!! Was not expecting that!
  16. Yes, interesting fact that about print drivers, as I bet thats the first thing they will complain about and I'm not going searching for all their home printer drivers for them! Aint my problem! He should have asked for some input in the decision oin the first place instead of asking the people at the apple store for unbiased info....not! Can you tell I'm annoyed? Anyway may be a problem at work as the main printer is a Ricoh photocopier/scanner/printer so not sure what driver availability will be like? Edit: Just had a look, seems they will be in luck, I will be out of luck as I will have to install them all manually!
  17. Bought for the right reason...no, not in my opinion but hey who am i, i only have to sort it. They wont be added to ad or the domain, they will just connect to shares or printers manually so will need to set it up on each mac book. Thanks for the info. Teachers dont picbk them up from apple shop till early may, so a while to look in to things. Head already has his for some reason.
  18. Just thinking about the new teacher mac books and how they are going to print, how do i connect a mac to our printer shared out on our windows server? Do i have to sort out mac drivers? And how do i connect them to use our network shared drives on our windows server? Only ever used a mac once many many years ago and still managed to have more exprience than the head as i managed to eject the cd he had inserted. Main reason he has bought macs?...so at conferences he wont look out of place as he will have a nice looking computer making notes instead of writing it on paper! Good reason that...not!
  19. Just as i initially thought, as why i couldnt at first figure out why it didnt, but now figured out why, chair to keyboard interface error!
  20. Great, think it was just the brain fade forgetting it was the admin network, thanks
  21. Head has just got the first of the mac book pro laptops for the teachers, plugged in the network cable and didnt get an ip address allocated automatically. Should it have done or is there anything special to set up on the mac. Just thinking while typing this it may have been because it was plugged in to the admin network and not curriculum where the server is...doh! Anyway original question still stands, is dhcp auto to windows dhcp server?
  22. Fixed it (orat least remembered what I did last time!) and writing it here means I can find it again, not saying my memory is bad, just too many jobs on the go at once! Anyway all it took to fix it was a gpupdate on the client and away it went! Can go home happy now!
  23. Right back to my old faithful problem! Got around to sorting out three netbooks that were missing the last time I had this issue. Now last time I sorted it....but didnt write the solution down!!!!Argggghhh!!! Any ideas to a solution, desktop loads when logging on as a domain admin but a normal user..no joy, (even made them local admins, no joy). Sure last time it was something stupid that needed changing. Pulling my hair out with this one.
  24. Think I've sorted it now. Already got media player classic installed so can open it up from a folder, Thanks
  25. Whats the best way to make a DVD video available to teachers accross the network? Just been given one the teachers need access to in each class, only other option is getting it copied, another job I could do without!
