Has anyone found a way to automatically uninstall Google Chrome from their networked PC's. Have a few on the network and it causes havoc as it stops pop ups for some of the software/websites we have it enabled from through the GPO. Looked on the net but cant seem to find any definative answer.

I used the I-Desk one this morning, better than any I used throughout the winter (probably because it was broken and I was too tight to buy a new one!)

Thats why they pay for schooll insurance, ok more down time whilst its sorted but as said small pot of money lot of things to be achived with it and ICT does not always come out near the top, especially if its for something that 'aint broke' yet, not logical maybe but thats reality and thats what we have to deal with.

Got to agree there, mine are primary and money is scarce and tight so its a trade off and having a days down time although annoying is not critical. If we are talking secondary where more systems are 'mission critical' then I would agree other fall back systems would be in place.

On the software side....pray and hope Edugeek will come to my rescue, other than that would call a local company and be prepared to pay for day rate call out charges for one of their engineers to come and assist. As far as time scale it is what it is and it would get fixed as soon as possible, cant do more than that. I only cover the curriculum side so if it goes down its not mission critical and people would have to go back to chalk and slate for a while. Admin side is looked after by the LA.

Pray! or at least thats what I do, only ever had one server go down and that was really only just a W98 PC that was used as a general file store when I first started so not a proper server. I did have an NEC have its power supply blow with flames, fortunately under warranty and a nice man came out and sorted it :-) Try to get servers with three years on site warranty for harware issues and as I say for software issues a little bit of praying goes a long way so far! (touches all bits of wood he can find near him!) Others are Fujitsu and they have never had a moment so far (6 years for the oldest), bit slow now (P4 with 512Mb) so in the process of sorting out replacements, the originals being put to use as backup devices of extra storage for archive etc.

All classrooms have Smarboards and nearly 300 PC's in total and 80 netbooks. Teach ICT as well so thats half the week and fit Techy in the other half.

How did you run the reg setting with a startup script, any chance of a copy of the script?

Sorry if this is a bit of a simpletons question but what do I do with the adm file in AD. At home at moment so cant have a look. Presume I just import it from the File menu and it then affects all users or do I have to do it with individual GPO's?

Yes, try that script, got a few connecting for me last week when I found it. Would there be any mileage putting this as a startup script to make sure all computers are connecting as not sure how to check which PC's are not connecting from all our PC's on the network (other than manually going through a prinrted list).

Got a what we thought was a reasonable quote from CopyLogic at BETT (never used them before but if anyone has let me know). Looking at a copier/printer/scanner to replace our exitsing expensive (and now dead!) colour laser and small HP B+W. Havn't got prices to hand but think it was somewhere about £68 month + 0.034colour 0.0034 B+W, which would run out cheaper per year than we are now paying for toners alone and no copy/scan facility.

May ask if they are willing to quote a per day rate up to a max of their original quote of 4 days then if its an easy job its cheaper. They are usually quite flexible and there is alot more at stake, not just the server. Anyway thanks for the replies, all been helpfull as usual. At least mine is the easy job getting prices, the harder job will be the heads in actually getting the funding :-)

It was from one of the smaller stands on the gallery selling large format printers for posters. banners etc. Cant for the life of me remember the make now! Unless I ventrure into the bag of paper and I'm not ready for that yet!

Its an off the shelf HP Proliant ML350 server with extra disks and memory added (3yr warranty, 3GB Mem, 2x120Gb HD and 3x500Gb HD). That £1300 does not include any hardware/software that has been priced separately. without going in to deatils too much its approx £2000 for the hardware. Seemed alot for the install/migration etc but as not done any before didnt know how much time was involved....but knew someone on here would :-)

Just looking in to getting a new server and been quoted by our usual supplier but need a few ideas if its reasonable. The hardware costs are usually not bad so not too concerned about those at the moment (as its only in the ideas stage at the moment) but been quoted as 4 days to build the new one with 2008 and transfer all data and shares/users etc accross and test/commission it for £1300 ex vat. Cant do it myself for reasons of lack of experience (getting experience on this project is not suitable) and time available (as I work across 4 schools in the week). Doe this seem a reasonable time/cost?

Is it me but it looks a bit on the quiet side?

Came home with the usual pens, sweets etc (daughter loves that bit of me being away!) but amongst the bets bits were a large A1 size colour print of my dog (remembered to take an image with me this year!), cap and lanyard from Zero_Hour at Edugeek, brilliant, lots of stuff from Aggy, calculator/ruler from somewhere else I have no idea and a type of windup torch from CopyLogic as we are trying to sort out our ICT printing. Did two days this year and just cant understand how we have just done the single day before and seen everything we wanted. Brilliant time away, just back to the hum drum routine again now :-( ...Hmmm whens that next course....ah! out again next wednesday :-)

I have the Desire on T-Mobile, have linked it up with the Orange connection to try and cut out dead areas, reception is not that bad for me although as its relatively new to me cant say I noticed any difference befor 2.2. I have noticed the batter life/usage is alot better though (except if I turn the GPS on!). Anyone upgraded the battery to get a longer life when using GPS. Just wondering how much longer I would get with the GPS turned on and therse higher rated batteries I have seen advertised on FeaBay.

I have as said, the Samsung NB30 Touch and it works fine. It is not MS Touch compatible as it is not recognised as a multi touch screen so their touch apps and games don't install but everything else works fine, net browsing, games, apps (word etc). To be honest though as the screen does not flip totally to make a flat tablet, if I was going to get some touch screen devices for school (which I would like to do) then I would go for an actual slate/tablet thats inherantly designed for touch use. The slate dos_box has been taking apart on here is Win7 and should integrate with most schools networks just like a netbook would.

Right, looks like Ineed to tidy that up a bit them and move the msi installs to the computer settings, has worked 'mainly' so far for the small amount of msi's we have but I have tried some and they failed and that I think explains why! We already have loopback enabled as I remember that being an issue when the original installers set it up and were trying to get a global desktop working (it was not set).

Leading on from that, my MSI installs I have are set up in the user settings section of the policy (as per original instructions I was given when setting them up), should I have set them up in the Computer Settings secton so that if any needed admin privilage thay would have had them?

Sorry to resurect this thread, just realised had not checked it for replies! Anyway, so if I want a program to install at startup (as a local admin) then I need to put it in Computer Config rather than User Config? If you see me at BETT you have the right to slap me for asking inane questions :-)

There has been much talk about using screens for display of work in entrances etc but I want to use one in the ICT suite to display work. What do people suggest we use to display the work, just PowerPoint or something else? Key is it has to be free as its part of a whole suite makeover (and boy does it need it, but of course theres no/little money). We can probably get the screen but its waht do we use to display the work which will be written documents, pictures, screen grabs, video etc.

Going to try a different filter and move it to a different socket (just remembered he has sky and a new socket was fitted for that!) See what happens then. Thanks for the suggestions.
