Does the channel or security selected on our Netger WAP (WN802TN) make any differenceto the speedof the connection? Just got two to set up, and existing one and a newer version. Set the new one up with WPA2-PSK (AES) (channel 11) and windows is reporting connectionspeed of 65Mbps, so I change the existing one to the same settings (channel 2) as it was different and told the Samsungs work better with AES and windows now connects at a reported 150Mbps!!!! it was connecting with WPA-PSK (TKIP) at 54Mbps. Whats going on and what should I really expect to see reported? Both Wap's are in the same room as me. Sincerely yours, !

Well its not only the NC10's that have had the problem as we have just had 5 out of 30 NB30's come with screens not working (quick turn around by our supplier to get that sorted) and two out of another 16 that have had the screen white out from the very start so not an over use issue as its the first time they have been opemed! These are to go back as well. Got 30 in another school (NC10's) but so far only had one reported as showing the white out (and guess what the teacher didnt have the time to note which one it was before putting them all back in the cabinet! and they all have a massive number sticker on the lid!) guess I'll just wait till its reported again :-) I was a fan of the Samsungs (even got myself a NB130 touch screen - bought by school for my use) but this leaves a bad taste if it startes happening more often. How much are the cables by the way, seeing as there is another thread on sourcing spares, as can you do a strip down procedure to replace it with photos as a guide?

If you are going to do the graphical modelling (I teach just ICT to y2,3,4,5 and 6 over two schools as well as being Mr Tech Guy) then why not try modelling something realistic with the kids. You could use Word and the shape objects and teach them how to group items to make chairs and tables in plan view then set them the task of redesigning the classroom (with a plan you have made), what do they need to consider, access etc number of pupils etc, then save the final design...but then say another few pupils are to join the class, how could they redesign the original plan to accomodate the new pupils. Sets them up to use graphical modelling on a realistic situation, one they are familiar with, leading to 'what if' questions and learing practical skills in the use of making plan schematics and using work drawing tools in a creative way. Leads on to plan making, can we better layout the teachers car park for better parking etc. There are lots of things you could do with it. Get them to make a map of the school by walking around taking photos so they know whats where etc, insert them onto the final plan. Remember for us making a plan is relatively simple but for them they see it all from a different angle i.e.low down so plan view is not as obvious. Lots of links with maths, ICT, geography, remember its all supposed to link together and ICT be the tool not the focus (I know, I know it does not always work that way and you sometimes just have to teach the skills in order to use it as a tool!) Hope thats of some help.

Have a go with Recuva retrieved a teachers planning etc from a memory stick that would not do anything but ask to be formatted.

Going to try and get down for a couple of day this year (fingers tightly crossed!) so where would anyone suggest to stay overnight and at what cost? bearing in mind that my going may all depend on how deep in someones pockets they may have to reach!

I know it may seem a daft option but is the laptop set to be the primary video display? Had some Sony ones that did not like playing video on smartboard and laptop at same time so had to switch the primary display to be the external vga, hence no video on laptop but on smartboard OK. Worth checking, you never know.

Have used original version on xp but web site says 7, may work, just have to try I suppose.

Eventually seems to have solved itself but dont ask how! They will be cannecting using the wireless anyway, just needed the LAN to connect to the WAP to configure it.

Got a strange one with the network LAN connection on these. Imaged all the netbooks and now come to set them up finally find that although the wireless connects without a problem I cant get the LAN cannection to register at all. It just says its installed OK, no problems found but that no cable is plugged in (it lies!). Plugged it in to a WAP (reason being I wanted to configure the WAP) and the network LAN light on the WAP comes on so it must be connected and plugged in! Tried uninstalling the drivers, rebooting and it finds the NIC and reinstalles the drivers all to no effect. Downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Samsung site as well. This is not a hardware fault as I selected at random one of the other imaged netbooks and that does not recognise a cable had been plugged in either yet wireless is fine and dandy. Chipset is the Realtek.

I like the bit that says he assumed a Primary school had 4 servers!!!! Luxury indeed! Could we have a poll for how many serversmost primary schools have?

If its just an inetrim solution then what about Partimage on the RescueCD or clonezilla, image to a portable drive then image each laptop. Did 20 odd netbooks like that in no time. Then when he has more time look at FOG or WDS to see which best suits his situation. Thats what I have done and ended up with a FOG setup (manual addition to network and rename as never had time to look much further than the standard setup).

Cant you do a ctf transfer instead of a csv as it copes with those better I think.

Thought about that after searching myself. Have the original splitters that came with the cabinet but they are the figure of eight connectors (wonderful Samsung changed their design after we wanted more netbooks) Doubt if I could get figure of eight to clover leaf adaptors though...or could I? Just had a browse and yes I can! C5 to C8 Adaptor only £3.99 inc VAT! Doh! Just realised it not much difference as I need twice the amount as I need one for each power pack! Looks like its the original cables then at £8, less hassle and adaptors. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Can anyone give me a price for some power cable splitters, three pin plug to two clover leaf shape power plugs. Need them for our netbook cabinet to power the adaptors. Been quoted £8 each soi far from the cabinet supplier. Would need 10 off them.

Just had a look at that, excellent, not got one of these but was just curious. Funny how so many projectors look just the same and follow the same procedure once you take the lid off.

In the interests of looking at options available does anyone have a contact for Aerohive? Was not overly impressed by the Netgear option and would rather pay more and get less irate calls as to why they have connection problems.

Found out what it was, it just slides along the boom arm, could not get any adjustment at first as the original installers had just coiled up any spare audio/video cable inside the boom/projector mount, thus jamming it up. Pulled all that out and hey presto, can slide the projector to zoom it in :-)

How can I adjust the image size on a Toshiba ST-20 projector (the one on a boom arm). Cant find anything on the projector or on the projector menu, so I presume its by means of position on the boom. The image is slightly too large for the board. Found how to adjust the tilt or the vertical position just not the image size.

Sure I said we had looked as this as an option.

Just been quoted a wireless system for our primary, it has to cope with 30 netbooks being used in one classroom or split between multiple classrooms. Been quoted Netgear ProSafe WFS709TP controller and WGL102 AP's (just looked at specs and cant seem to see if these support n, shows specs for b and g but not n?)to cover the school. Although we are told that the netbooks will be able to see at least two AP's at anyone time and manage the load, what situation would we have with this kit if it can only see one AP reliably due to wall construction etc. Been told itrs based on Aruba which is supposed to be good but entering unknown waters witrh my knowledge now so seeking your help. Before anyone asks, yes I've had a quote from Aggy for a Ruckus solution and one for Meru but we need to see what other options are available so we can make an informed choice based on cost and performance. Final choice will not be just based on cost.

After plugging a projector into my W7 netbook I now have an annoying 'Optimal Resolution' gadget thing on my desktop even though there is now no projectir plugged in, that I cant seem to close or get rid off. It only lets me change the screen res to one that unworkable on a 10.1" screen. How do I turn this thing off? Its right in the middle bottom of the screen!

Anyone used AAG Systems based in Derbyshire/Sheffield area before for a wireless install or hardware supply/config? Just had them in for a chat and possible quote, seemed knowledgable enough so just looking for other people who may have used them and their experience of them. PM me if you want to.
