Come on, the suspense is killing me! -
Trouble is those numbers are the ones that are quite busy, hence having a stab at 9. 13 is empty but need to check if old laptop would connect to it and daughters Ipod would recognise it. If they do I may go for that, and a new AP looks to be on the horizon too.
-
Yes was on 11, and that was busy! Just looked at the router security and the only opions I have are WEP, PRE-SHARED KEY or Disabled!! Think its time for a new router with better security!
-
Thats the exact problem, its getting very crowded, just changed to ch9 and its connected OK. For wi-fi analysis must admit to using a fee one for my HTC Desire. Works well and gives more info than I understand! (but does graph alot of it for simletons like me :-) ) Could really do with changing to one with n though as video is a bit jerky at times (ok more often than not!). On the subject of seurity, what would you suggest the best security to be? WPA2-TKIP? or WPA2-AES? Any suggestions for a 'n' router?
-
Got one myself, not a mobile kind of person till I got it and now...I use it for everything, would be lost without it! Find it so usefull at work, notes, wi-fi, satnav, etc, etc. More a personal assistant than a phone! Think you can tell I'm smitten! (Only downside is battery life if youhave the GPS on but then its usually for the sat nav and I just plug it in to the car to get around that problem)

Just started to get intermittent problems connecting to my wireless router (via wireless) at home and looking at my wi-fi analyser there are a few on the same channel around me. Could this be the problem? If so can I just select any of the channels (i.e. one that is not being used by anyone) even ch13? Its only a b/g router so anyone got any suggestions for a replacement that would big b/g and n which gives good coverage. Its not for cable just broadband via the telephone line.

So long as the trains are running Wednesday and Thursday for me and a colleage. Was going to combine it with the cycle show untill I found out that only starts Thursday Doh! Maybe next year.

Only need it to access home computer, have work VPN to get from home to work.
-
Just set it up and its brilliant! Wish I'd sat down and looked at this before.

Interested in using the Teamviewer software for remote acces to my own PC but cant see from the site if I have to install on the PC I will be sat at (I know I have to install on the remote PC) or if its a program I can just run from my memory stick. If it is an install are there any other free options available to use (Logmein is blocked).

Even if my existing P4 has 64 caperbility I think the MB would not make the most of its as its just a run of the mill Advent from a few years ago.

Looks like I have some persuading to do. Just needt to convince him he needs to replace his PC I've just fixed :-)

I currently run at home an Intel Pentium 4 2.93Ghz based PC but I may have the chance of getting an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.41Ghz based PC, would it be any better. I know its old by todays standards but I'm of the school, if its free its good! They work OK for what I do at home. The MB is certainly better spec'd and it can cope with 3Gb ram which mine cant. It would only be running XP Pro.

Think imiddleton hit the point, forgot that the DVD drive has some inbuilt memory card slots in it, which would match to C,D,E,F and G!!!!! Low and behold next one would be H for the HD. Mystery Solved. Thnaks

Fixing a friends computer and after fixing the MBR to get it to boot noticed its set as H: drive! Never had a windows boot drive as h: only c:. It set as master so where does it assign it to H:? Not too bothered as its up and running (and booting!) but sure would not like mine to be that way knowing hos some software does not like that boot drive letter anything other than c:! I cant change it as all the existing software would point to h: but if I was to reinstall how could I reset it to c:. Its a Gigabyte MB with Sata and IDE raid options but its only a single disk....Thinks....thinks more....am I correct in thinking that raid options are reserving C,D and E,F and G for raid and is that wide of the mark?

Thanks for all the suggestions, getting data off was the first priority, then getting it up and running. Forgot all about firmer etc..my excuse was that it was after midnight and not thinking clearly.....and I'm sticking to that! Will give suggestions a try when I get home. Yes I did stick it on another pc to get the data off. It's now all on a portable drive.

Have a PC which has just started to refuse to boot in to windows, goes through the normal bios checks, hd exists etc but after trying to boot from the CD drive it just stops as it shoukld then boot from the HD, no error messages (no missing ntldr etc) at all. Tried with a differnt HD and it installs and boots in to windows so it must be the HD. Put the HD in another PC and I can browse it and recovered his photos, documents etc. Anything I can try to get it to boot again (I know installing new would be the best option but would like to get it running as it is if I can, its not a work PC).

Why not use Gparted disk and resize the partitions as suggested?

3.5m but really a dive more than a run! How come I find it easir to go backwards than forwards! -
Thanks but the first 'Points to note' says "This document does not apply to iPod touch" which she has.

Daughter has an Ipod Touch which she has used with her old laptop, but now she has a new laptop with Itunes installed on it. The Ipod is sync'd up with her old laptop. How does she transfer everything to her new laptop, is it just a case of plugging it in and letting it sync to the new laptop. She did try using it with her new laptop and got in a bit of a 'pickle' saying it had lost some of her songs. Connected it back to her old laptop and added what ever I could find music wise on the laptop to the Ipod by sycing it. So how should she transfer it all so she can just use the new laptop with her Ipod? Whats all this authorise/de-authorise PC etc on the Itunes menus? Sorry if these seem inane questions but I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to Ipods etc and daughter does not help by not letting me help as 'I dont know' when its all working but when its not 'she does not know how it all works'!
