Just had a wireless rounter installed at my Dads for his laptop and he has cordless phones as well on the same telephone point filter adaptor. There is interference in the phone when the phone line cable from the router is plugged in (router powered on) but not when its pulled out so dont think its due to the wireless of both. I know this can be a problem but would think the interference would still be there if the router was powered on and the telephone cable from it unplugged. Any ideas what I could do to reduce the interference. You can still use the phones and wireless its just there is extra background noise when using the phone and his hearing is not always that good. Cant change where they are positioned due to power and telephone socket restrictions/availability.

We have had the reverse, video played over network, no video but sound ok but when played locally bothe ok! Just started to use Media Player Classic instead and worked on and off the network. This was using files breated with Digital Blue cameras. Tried various codec packs but didnt seem to have any sucess.

Right, just logged on to SEC and looked at HIPS policy but what do I exclude to stop it slowing up log off? The OP said 'remote drives'. Sorry if my questions seems a little thick, but its getting late and cant seem to think this out at the moment! Just having another thick moment, looking at bit more in to it, I have a policy for the server which has 'on access' scanning turned off, so I presume its on the client pc policy that has 'on access' scanning turned on that I click the box for 'remote files' in the windows exclusions screen? Could someone confirm that is correct or is it another thick moment I'm having?

Ah!!!! Now thtas a good find, was just about to post a message about this. Installed the new Sophos over Chritsmas and today noticed that users with roaming profiles took ages to save settings and log off! Will check that out now and alter the setting.

My Samsungs ar all in primary schools and they have had no issues with them using them (wireless is poor but soon to be changed :-) ) From Y1 right up to Y6, remember that there are touchscreen versions of the NB30 (I have one at home and its great) if you wanted to have some for the very younger ones, some touch and some standard but all NB30's

Well City Link eventually delivered, in the morning City Link site said estimated deliverey between 7:30 and 12, good job I left a note to deliver next door and didnt wait in, it apparently arrived at 2:30! Ah well, still like eBuyer for choice and prices just not delivery operator at moment!

What you could do is swap the projectors and as the new(ish) library one does not get used that much take the chance to strip it down and give it a clean if money is tight. One of my schools is dismantling the ict suite to go fully mobile eventually so that projector is going to be replacing a class projector that is very poor.

Does that have any effect on the permissions used by the script? i.e. one at computer start runs as an administrator whereas one run a windows logon relies on what users have admin rights? Reason is I was trying to run a program that required admin rights and just wondered if I put it in the computer config section it would get around that problem. Have sorted problem now but just wondered for future info.

Whats the difference between the computer config section of AD and the user config section when I come to look at adding logon scripts. Mine are in the user config but wondering what the difference was if they were in the computer config section.

Yes, not dropped one yet (touches nearest bit of wood!). It can be a bit of a handfull especially with some of the security clamps we have as they double up as the support and its a case of as soon as its released the projector moves so it involes a bit of fast handwork sometimes. Fortunately thats not often. Must enquire about the ladder training?

I'm a primary tech as well (oldish or depending on who you ask may be oddish) and its up to me to change the bulb otherwise it would never get done. Don't like ladders but what else is there. Worse job is taking down a projector if you have to change the bulb becuase the clamp obscures the lamp opening. Juggling a projector on a ladder is no fun.

Trouble is delivery is via City Link, still awaiting delivery of a dvd drive from ebuyer (not their fault), next day delivery, and from tracking its been sat at City Link since 6am on Thursday!

Just done the removal and upgrade (on the same server) a few times here. well three different schools. Just protected the PC's from the console and I think that will do the trick, as well as a belt and braces method of doing a forced install via a startup batch file at logon (batch file from the forum) which I think will uninstall the old version and install the new one with your new settings. Have a look at the recent thread on Sophos by me on the Security forum on here.

Thanks for the replies, not realy going to put the OS under much pressuer with what I do at home, its just the usual, edit web site, make a video (small) browse the net etc. It was just I may have the chance to do a PC install from scratch and thought It may be a good idea to take the chance to try 64 while I did, so just a bit of pre emptive groundwork I suppose.

Are there any gotcha's or things to be aware of with using the 64bit version of windows (thinking of changing to it instead of the 32bit version)? Does it require more ram over and above the 32bit version in practice (key word being practice and not just what the web sites reccomend). Can I use my existing Office 2003 with the 64 bit version? Asking on here because I know someone will have already done it and saves me a while trawling google for the answer! Ultimately is it really worth it to use the 64bit version over the 32 bit version?

Plumped for CH9, then that became busy, so went to CH1 OK till all the kids around here got wi-fi at christmas now its as busy and anything, so ended up on CH13, all equipment seem to be OK connecting. Hope it stays that way, due to it not being a bit of a standard on here in the UK.

After looking around and various reviews still not sure what to replace my Linksys with? Anyone know of a good dual band adsl wireless router, needs to work with win7, looking about the £70 to £90 region.

Would you believe it, after deciding to just use the insurance and get a replacement and just wait the contract out, just before contacting them, thought I'd best just turn it on in case they want me to do any of the checks I had already done, guess what....now works just fine!!!!!! Daught has it now and ist still working! Anyway did a defaults reset and have the code for a full facory reset if it goes do lally again! Yes I agree, its the teenager factor as I have a HTC Desire and no problems at all, in fact never had a problem with any phone I've had. Agree they just dont look after stuff these days and same as elsigee40 I have her first mobile on standby as a replacement if all else fails and hers cannot be replaced. Would love to swap the phone but not prepared to pay anymore than what I am so an upgrade at the moment is out of the question.

Daughters Samsung Genio Touch (no3, one stolen second replacement) has again stopped working or should I say the screen. Half is working and half works something it shouldnt! Lets just say its like a badly configured smartboard :-( So two options, its insured but I got to pay the excess, and I'm a bit fed up with sorting out her phone again as I think the design is a bit suspect and not 'teenager' survivable. Option two, just replace it but have another 8 months left on the contract. Did I hear on here that I may be able to get another supplier to buy me out of the current contract and take a new one on with them (inc new phone, she wants a blackberry, I'd be happier as its not a touchscreen!). Anyone any thoughts on the above, ready to throw this phone through the window at the moment. Never had as much problems with a phone before.

Would this server be considered a bit lightweight for a primary school curriculum server (with extra storage and memory added)? Nothing special being run. just internet access, some apps from server shares and pupils logging on (probably only 40 at any one time). Just need to sort one out for one of the schools in Jan to replace a P4 server with not alot of room left on its primary partition, well not alot left anywhere to be honest!

Not really as he was looking at changing it anyway for something a little smaller and it just so happened to have a problem. He was not bothered if I couldnt get it up and running , just getting his photographs off was more important. Anyway did both and must have done it too well as hes still using it. No matter, he knows I'm interested in it when hes ready to change and hes a good friend.
