Anyone used this for resizing images or if they know if it can be installed over a network?

Thanks, in primary, so not many to install and msi more time than needed. Anyway found reg setting to disable it and welcome screen etc. Now it starts up relatively quick. Just need to run reg file on logon, suggestions? Its a 2008 server.and have been told can do it via gpo but dont know how yet or where settings are. Thats the next job, unless someone can point me in right direction.

Yes had a couple of sessions like that, server running, could ping it but could.not log on or use any printers shared or any shared folders, fortunately thats all it does (well wsus and sophos as well at the moment). Couldnt find anything wrong, only some messages about http and .net but not had chance to investigate further. No warning over stoppage and worked fine once i rebooted.

Installed v10 of the Smartnotebook and now found I have Smart Maths tools asking to be registered. Dont recall seeing an option to install this and we dont need it. If I wait till the 30 days lapse will it stop nagging or can I uninstall it (or stop it nagging) before then. Cant see a separate uninstall? We had a similar thing, giant warehouse, lots of people affected so they paid for lots of new uprated arials.

Ah the old favourite chestnut, large spool files created by people printing high res photographs on to plain paper, probably using the photo wizard, which crash the server due to zero free space...been there last year. While I'm moaning, have you moved the spool file location away from the c: drive? Thats what I did now I dont care what they print, thats admins lookout for costs, at least my server does not go down now :-)

Just as an addition to this thread, I went to the only other school I have running a global desktop for pupil logons only and noticed it had the group 'everyone' with the ability to read, list etc but with write deny. It also has Administrators and pupils groups in with the usual read list etc but not deny write. I didnt set this up in the first place so can I get rid of the everyone as it seems daft to have it as to lock it down I have to have deny write for everyone group then when I want to change an icon I have to remnove the write deny, change icon then reset it. Not really looked at it much before because it just worked, now after my problem started to look a bit more closely.

Topic covered many times on here, one easy option I use is a script on logon that collects all that info and places it in a csv file. Job done. Search on here and I think there is the scripts to do that. Just cant think at the moment who did it.

Thanks, as i said done the deny write and all ok so far. Thanks. Just for future ref if i had deleted the folder and its share would a restore from ntbackup 2008 have restored the.folder.permissions and share? Or would i have had problems restoring a share that already existed. Had that with printers not allowing a newprinter to have an old printers share name whicv was removed as printer had been deleted. Would have given you thanks but cant see the button somehow.

Now, looking at the perms (properties, security tab) I have the pupil group with Read/Execute, List and Read yet they still can add to the desktop? Now they are local admins and in the desktop folder I have a Administrator and domain\Administrators group with full control should that have any bearing on it or should I only have domain\administrator group in the list? Getting headache now! If I need tio change perms can I have dummy instructions please Would a restore from backup cure all now I can actually write and view the folder? Edit: Think I have it now, re-read your post and added the Write Deny, was thinking just not ticking the allow write would do it, hey ho!

Right, looked at it and found that I must have set admins and users Deny via Security/Advanced/Type was set to Deny. Now set it to Allow and users can load the desktop and as admin I can change settings, however...a general user can now add things to the desktop. What do I need to do as I dont want to end up where I was 10 mins agon, got enough grey hair!

Right, just created a major problem and somehow changed the security settings on our Global desktop folder. Users now do not have access to the desktop (messasge when logging on) and I cant seem to change any of the security settings. Was just checking the security settings as someone had managed to add a folder to the desktop and now I 've obviously changed something!!!! Cant seen to change any security and now even logging on as domain admin I cant even view the contents. Tried a restore from back up, thought that would add previous security but no joy. Any suggestion...fast...welcome! It says in folder properties that Administrators and Administrator have all allowed permisssions and pupils only the usual read/view etc. How do I change it back? Could I rename the folder (destroying the share) then restore the original from backup but would it recreate the share etc or would I be in a worse position? Clutching at straws now!

Gotto agree, if you get a survey done get a proper structural survey. When I bought my first hoiuse years ago I just had the bank do the survey and it was next to useless but they put provisos on the mortgage like must be completely redecorated (ok it was not nice but it was livable) and said the heating system was 'unusual' so had it checked by a plumber and he said the guy just didnt know what he was talking about, not modern heating by by no means strange. Bought next house new, 10 year building warranty Ha! You had to fund any investigation to prove fault under warranty then claim it back if they agreed it was a fault if not you lost out, cheaper to just pay to have fault rectified (was fault with damp proof membrane i.e. builders had cut out a section because it came too close to the skim of concrete they used for the floor, hence damp cam up and lifted the floor!). As they say its a minefield and dont want to move again!

Been through this last year and as far as I know you will need a new CAL for every new PC that is to connect to your server.

I am looking to change my role ( and more importantly how much of the week I work!) in September and I am going to be dropping my full time role covering a few schools for tech support and just looking after one primary school on a part time basis. Its to be on a fixed hours per week but on a flexible timescale i.e. no fixed start and finish times or days. Talked to the head and hes happy with that but we need to put something down on paper and I'm not sure where to start. Anyone else have a similar agreement they would like to share or have any suggestions what to put down. I cover virtually any eventuallities with the curriculum network or arrange to sub it out if its beyond by caparbilities or its more cost/time effective. Probably looking at 3hrs a week and thought if hours were accumulated they could be used in holiday time for installs or even at an agreed rate to do some project work with some of the kids (I'm a qualified teacher, hangs head in shame on here , but at least its now allowing me to work part time! ) I'll still be lurking around on here as I will still be doing tech support for two other schools I teach at but that is an agreed part of my role there.

Before doing anything just try doing a gpupdate on the client, had a strange one of redirected desktop not working a while ago and chased all sorts of dead ends (include a new image) for a few days before I dropped on doing that, one reboot and all was well. Worth a try. The problem never appeared before on others using the same image.

Thats a depressing end to he week to find out that SGU is no more, was looking forward to that and wondered why it had not reappeared. I was something I could watch without having to waste too many brain cells but found it riveting (dont know what that says about me!) How about Warehouse 13? Has that been canned as well, if it has could go into deep depression. Looks like I'm stuck with Emergency Vets untill somehing else comes along.

You dont have a daughter who would never let it be forgotten if I got it wrong and I would end up paying for a replacement, not an option as it does not teach her anything apart from letting Dad repair something means she gets the latest model! Rather let someone else do the job. If it was my own, yes I would do the cheapest option and do it myself.

No go as only fault is the user and her inability to understand that there is a need to treat these things with respect! Thanks for the info.

Dont know how but my daughter has managed to mess up the small contacts on the connection strip that is used to charge/connect her iPod. Its out of warranty (not that this would have been a warranty reapir anyway, dont think warranty covers being too rough with it!) anyway, has anyone had any experience with sending iPods back to apple for repair? Are they expensive, is it worth it? Is it quick? Or do I have any other options? No, just going out and buying a new one is not an option (she saved up and bought this herself).

Did this at two schools (well the engineer did), the old 2003 server became the nackup domain server and ran the printers and the new server 2008 took over everything else (except wsus as I didnt want to shift that as its working fine, as usual dont fix what aint broke!).

Well done, crisis over, just out of interest what software did you use to extend the drive. Got a server with similar size drive (already cleaned it up and moved the spool file and swap file and still only around 1Gb free). Got a new server in place so not critical, it just manages the printers and intend moving them eventually.
