Right next question, where do I add the trusted site in GPO and which section should I allow the download of activex, see it in both user and computer config sections.
-
Yes thats exactly it, apparently it would confuse the staff for that to happen!
-
Is there a way I can set active x in internet explorer to be active when users log on? Have a request from up top to set it for all staff logins so they all have their own profile. Its so tbey can do their class registrations on line through ericom and the poor dears may get confused if it asks them to acti ate it when the log on!

well just tried it and it now reports disk size in widows to be 150gb istead of the true 250gb so looks like gparted disk will have to be used to expand it unless there is a way to tell clonezilla to do it automatically.
-
Imaged an XP pc previuosly to a disk image with clonezilla using the 'beginner' option however the next batch of pc's have a different hd (larger) but the same in any other resect. Will the image be expanded to fit the new disk size or will I have to manually resize it to the full size or can I set an option to tell it to fill the new disk if it does not do it by default? or am I stuck as I did it as a hd image and not a partition image?

Just possibly found out our wifi issue in two classrooms, someone has an unsecurred wifi in a house (no idea which one) nearby and the netbooks are jumping and connecting to it instead of the school Ruckus wifi. How can I stop this happening apart from going around with my phone scanning the networks untill I find the right house! Stacks of other wifi but they are all secured and saw a netbook that had connected to the unsecured one myself.

If it only takes 5min to set up anyone got a simpletons guide to setting WDS up from scratch?
-
We have had an issue for a while, as usual no one reported it for ages and just grumbled quietly, once I knew about it I have investigated but not found a solution. As moving to W7 in summer its gone on the back burner as they can still access file by the mapped drive.

Thanks, may try the imagex as suggested on a sysprep guide I found. Usually use clonezilla but may give this a try. If I usex imagex would I be able to use the image with WDS if I managed to get chance to set that up at some later date?
-
Do i need to.do.anything about the swap.file.before I image and sysprep? With xp image I turned it off so it wasnt included in the image to try and make it smaller.
-
Briliant! Have some rep and thanks.
-
Ok, sysprep it is then. Next question is anyone got a simpletons guide to sysprep. Googled it but so many different guides, not sure which one the best. Understand I need an unnattended xml file, anyone got one of those already edited. Sure seen one on bere but dont seem to be able to find it now.

Not using WDS as its not set up and not the time to do that and the images at the moment which is why I'm trying to find quickest and best solution to just creating a few imaged PC's. If I were going to be doing the whole school as well the yes, I would have been looking in to setting up wds or fog before now, but just been landed with this and the end of term is comming up fast. Have not got a spare machine capable of running a vm anyway so cant do that, we are only a primary and spare resources are scarce.
-
Not a clue how the rest of the school PC's were going to be imaged as thats by a separate company, but I was just going to use clonezilla for the few PC's I have to create.
-
Do I have to use sysprep? Always done XP without and never had any problems.

We are due to change from XP to W7 this summer and as we have six different models of PC ( mainly Fujitsu Esprimo and a set of netbooks, Samsung) I have been asked to create a master image PC of each one. Now not wanting or have the time really but if needs must, I presume I could install one with all.software and set up etc (we are buying in to the new MS licensing so I am told the key for W7 will be the same on each PC) then image it on to the other models and just fix driver issues, quicker than a fullsetup. Done this before with XP then done a new SID but whats the procedure in W7? Is it possible if I get all the drivers needed I could build a single image for all? And how would I do that? Been told I could use sysprep but its longer as it does a mini setup after it reboots. Not the time either to set up WDS or Fog espess as I am not doing the final imaging of the school PCs, that may have to be looked at a later date when more time.

Are the teachers all set up in Bloxx? We have that here and Bloxx at the LA, I have an admin account that will only work when logged in as admin, said I wanted all staff to be able to use it but they are not keen on setting up all those accounts as each account logging on our network must have an account in Bloxx for the sendlogin to work for them, hence only works as admin. Not found a way to run it when teacher logged in though as they not got a bloxx account. LA solution was to have one account that they will create that anyone wanting youtube etc would have to logon as, get what they want then log it back off...not going to work, sorry, so at moment only me has access to normally blo ked sites.

Right, thanks for the pointers, now up to 1.3Gb which is a vast improvement on the 40Mb started with this am!

Will check the disk cleanup utility and ccleaner (usually use that on my own pc but was not sure about server) . All unused profiles, apps etc have been removed. Partitions are unequal but not the time at moment to do that...summer job maybe.

I went from tech support in engineering via 3yr BA Hons teaching degree to quailfy as a teacher, thought nah! got a job as a school IT technician, then after a year ended up teaching part time (just ICT in primary), now I teach 3.5 days a week with tech support built in to the job and thats 8 years now after qualifying in the first place.

Have one of our servers fall over as it ran out of disk space, its a known problem we have and our main server is fine. Just clearing some breathing space now and wondering if I can just delete the $NtUninstallKB*** folders form the windows directory? Dont intend to uninstall any of the updates as non have caused any issues and it would clear a heck of a bit of vital disk space. Already cleared .log and .tmp files to clear some space. Anything else to clear?

Software (Scratch) wont install using GPO
TechSupp replied to JonThompson's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks SimpleSi, just reminded me I had not set the Visible Drives setting, will go and do that now. Great software, just finished teaching Y3 groups how to use it, last session making a game on thier own and most managed it! Slightly off exact topic but do you share the finished games and how without having to install Scratch, would like to showcase it to parents. -
Software (Scratch) wont install using GPO
TechSupp replied to JonThompson's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I just run it from a share on the server and dont bother with a local install just a shortcut to it. That is on XP at the moment but I presume that would work on W7 like that as well.
