I was/am havign a problem using clonezilla to create a disk image onto a portable hard drive on an 11in Acer Aspire One. The only combo that seems (I'll go back and check in a bit!) is to put bootable pendrive into nearest the front lh side usb socket. Put main plug from port hard drive into RH usb slot - use and extension to route secondary power lead to the other lh usb socket and then boot up. (basically clonezilla was saying the port hard drive was full after about 10mins but what seemingly was happening was that it wasn't getting enough juice and was bombing out) Putting bootable pendrive in rh slot just didn't work at all - would hang during clonezilla booting process. Fingers crossed as going back now to see if it has managed to finish! regards Simon

HI, We have just bought 5 machines. All have 40Gb disks in them. Done the first one and took an image. Managed to install the image onto another machine fine. When I try the others it says: the partition table in this disk is illegal/invalid : /dev/sdb does this partition table file fit this disk :/home/partimag/2010-02-01-14-img /sdb-pt.sf? is this disk too small : /dev/sdb? ERROR: cant have a partition outside the disk Any ideas ? THanks

I use Clonezilla from a USB stick to take images and sometimes restore them. I haven't worked it out and struggling through the documentation I believe you can from a config file in somewhere that specifys all what you set so the path where your imaging to, file size etc etc all I want it to then do is prompt me to name the file and away we go. Can anyone help? Also has anyone got it working in a PXE environement, do away with the USB drive and go from there? Any hints and tips?

Hello, i'm deploying vista in a classroom for the first time and i see the sysprep process is a little different than XP. I've created the image so how do I go about sysprepping it ready to deploy with clonezilla? The way I read the documentation is that i have to sysprep before i install all the software in audit mode, is this correct? Don't say I have to start over . Cheers

Imaged an XP pc previuosly to a disk image with clonezilla using the 'beginner' option however the next batch of pc's have a different hd (larger) but the same in any other resect. Will the image be expanded to fit the new disk size or will I have to manually resize it to the full size or can I set an option to tell it to fill the new disk if it does not do it by default? or am I stuck as I did it as a hd image and not a partition image?

Hello, Has anyone used Clonezilla before? after setting up WDS on 2008 R2 and faffing around with drivers for all of our XP machines I decided to install Clonezilla. So far it has been great, my only problem being that I cant image more than one computer at a time, it says that the partition is busy when I try to start the imaging of the second machine. It is running on Ubuntu with Clonezilla SE. If anyone has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Olliesaurus

Hi there, not being a linux expert i wondered if its possible to get clonezilla that i have on my PXE menu to pass it some default settings so basically i don't have to choose disk-image or ssh and the address or pass the username and password or accepte the SSH cert. it would be nice if after booting it goes straigt to saving disk / restoring disk menu is this possible? Thanks Gordon.

I want to give my old man's machine a bit of an upgrade, easiest and simplest way would be to stick a SSD in it. Now I want to be lazy and use clonezilla to clone one drive from the other. Not done something like this for years, other than running through this guide is there anything else I will need to do? By the way I do that on any SSD install I go. I'd rather have a bit of guidance than just going in and doing it just so I know what I could expect.

We generally use WDS for desktops but we have a few netbooks now that don't like WDS (NVIDIA NICs) so i'm using Clonezilla, so far i've been using a USB drive to boot the netbook and then imaging to a share on a server. This has been working well and is sufficient for the few netbooks that we have but i'd like to be able to PXE boot Clonezilla rather than having to use a USB drive. Can this be done? Thanks.

I'm using Clonezilla on a USB drive to image some netbooks to a Seagate Freeagent. When I create the image it seems to take a very long time the last one took about 45 mins to create a 6Gb image. The image is ok and I can apply it to another netbook it just seems to take a long time Ghost does a similar size image in < 5 mins. Is it generally a slow app or is it possible i've not got something set right? This seems unlikely as it's pretty straight forward to use. Thanks.

Afternoon All So, new school and the suite is in a bit of an array (some machines have SP1, some don't and they're at various stages with other updates and installs). Anywho, I've spend the past couple of hours setting one of the machines up as a master so that I can use CloneZilla to make an image then go round the machines and install the image on them. Having to do it all via USB HDD as there's not really a server on site (old box running SME Server 6.5 ... hmmm). CloneZilla seems to be doing it's thing ok for everything but the OS Partition on the machine when it just run's a load of errors and aborts itself, seems to write the other 2 partitions (recovery and the system partition) fine to the USB HDD, but the OS just isn't happening. I remember in the past I've had issues when imaging Dell machines, but I just wondered what the best way forward is. Should I bite the bullet and do a totally fresh install of W7 on the drive so I know that it's all fine then set it all up and image it, or is there a method I'm missing that I should be using for imaging Dell machines with Clonezilla? By the way, currently running a ChkDsk at boot to make sure there's not an issue with the hard drive or anything itself. Thanks all Andy

and used a copy of Ghost to image a netbook I was in a rush and Clonezilla just takes too long to make a complete drive backup to an external USB hard drive. And its takes 5 goes of arranging which USB port to put the bootable drive into and which ones to stick the exteranl hard drive into (and at what point in the boot cycle to do it so it doesn't hang) Ghost took about 30 mins to make the image and looks like it'll take 10 mins to deploy (I know Clonzilla deploys about the same speed - its the creation of it that takes time and a lot of faffing ) What is my penance going to be? regards Simon (ex St Cutbert's RC Grammar School )

I have 10 Windows 8 laptops to roll out to staff - they came with Win8 Home, and I have successfully upgraded to Win8 Pro on one, to use as a master build. The idea was that I would then create a clone image with Clonezilla, and roll out to the other 9 devices so that they were identical. The big stumbling block is that they are UEFI machines, with no option to revert to a legacy BIOS to enable booting from a CD or DVD. The option to boot from a CD is there, but it must have a UEFI compliant O/S. According to the Clonezilla site, it is possible to load Clonezilla from an EFI file, at which point it seems to become doable, if I could work out how to point to the appropriate file in the EFI boot option. How do I do this?

I've got a few machines that are being used which I created an image using Clonezilla. One of the Hard drives has failed and I want to replace it but I only have smaller HDD to replace it with. Unfortunately when I try and restore the image I keep getting an error telling me the HDD is too small and the restore fails. The HDD is big enough for the image but as it's smaller than the original Hard drive I used to create the image the restore fails. I've tried preventing Clonezilla checking the HDD size but it still fails as apparently it cant create the partition table on the smaller disk. Is there anyway I can get the image onto a smaller HDD or am I going to need to create a new image?

Hi all. I have 35 new laptops. I have installed extra programs and made one a "master" I need to clone the other laptops. I can use a "Clonezilla" disk to do them one at a time........takes ages What about running "Clonezilla" from a 2008r2 server would that be difficult to set up. I did try to install UBUNTU on the server but the server was not too happy about that and said there was a permission problem. Any tips Ta
