  1. i scared mine off by pointing out if anything went wrong then BOTH of the domain admins would get the blame, and i was the one who was properly trained.
  2. sometimes the compression is just poor, on a 100/200gb tape i got about 115gb. unless you've got music or images on the server it will not be able to compress data too much.
  3. first line should have a basic understanding, they should be able to fix basic errors , help diagnose and collect information. second line should be able to fix most day to day problems, and help prepare information and diagnostics to be passed on , often second line will have a decent general knowledge and a speciality. Third line are computing messiahs. anything that the other 2 lines cant do get left to them to complete often with no help at all.
  4. i use virtual pc and put the vhd file on a partition of the local machine. useful link - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/thin-client-virtual-machines/20340-virtual-pc-console-settings.html
  5. well done fella, 291 was the hardest one i had to take (although i have 297 cmoing up!). The questions are much harder than they need to be, its perfectly possible to have a great knowledge of the subject matter and fail that oneebcause of the awkard questions. are you working towards one of the bigger qualifcations? or jsut rattling off mcp's?
  6. i had a similar issue a while ago, i managed to add a vlk changing script to our startups which worked a treat. Obvisouly i could get into windows though, which seems to be the biggie for you.
  7. do you have a volume license?
  8. Using Software Restriction Policies to Protect Against Unauthorized Software How To Use Software Restriction Policies in Windows Server 2003 Using Software Restriction Policies To Keep Games Off Of Your Network
  9. they're super as long as you are happy with the fact they are only an access device. The moment a teacher 'just' wants to make a change, they cant. I'd get a really detailed description of what a teacher wants in writing before purchasing them, they are super machines but we all know how teachers always want that little extra and these beauties simply wont give that little extra.
  10. Lancashire Computer Waste Services
  11. i use logmein, but i use it to my desktop pc as i'm a little wary of sticking anything java on the servers unless i really need to. I then have an mmc to manage all my remote desktops.
  12. probably best to wipe it, it'll be difficult to get onto it in the first place, then you'll have niggling problems with an ex dc on your system.
  13. have you joined the machine to a work group then readded it back to ad?
  14. i have savings with alliance and leicester, i have 4 accounts there. I bascially waterfall my cash through them each month with each one having more penalities for withdrawling cash. Go in and ask they'll set you up with the accounts, the esaver is a good deal and they do a monthly saving one at 12%.
  15. you can pull accross any dummy information. If your using mail a few people have problems with it, i use upn instead.
  16. in virtual pc console goto file, options, security. You can then password protect the settings.
  17. iplayer uses p2p to share and download it's files, every machine i've seen it on here it's slowed down and often these are the machines that "dont work".
  18. good job sherston.
  19. right place to be with a broken laptop!.
  20. no, but i suspect you could sell me some!.
  21. your smtp server needs to be a mail server. It's likely you have an outgoing mail server you can use supplied by your ISP. taht said most isp's will only let you use their smtp server on a line owned by then, so if your home isp is abc.net and your remote web server is conencted to the internet by xyz.com you wont be able to use your isp's smtp.
  22. i'm trying to put it on a plate for them, the teachers here will find any excuse to not like it and things like having to remember a password or ask for help would be clinchers!. cheers anyway
  23. sorry fellas, round the houses with this one!. bascially i want to create a staff only area on moodle. Short of adding all the user's myself is there an easy way to do it?. we have ldap set up and i suspect there must be a way with that but i cant find it!.
  24. splitter! hope you stay in contact with the board, your contribuations are appeceriated.
