Ask them to recoard the time next time it happens - then at least you have a referance point to look at in the PCs event logs

All I shall say is ouch! I did hear of problems with i7 processors on Hyper-V however the fix I came acrross for that one is probably one you have already applied - Stop error message on a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has the Hyper-V role installed and that uses one or more Intel CPUs that are code-named Nehalem: "0x00000101 - CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT" (its for Nehalem but I would imagine it would follow through to Westmare chips as well). The problems there sound like the reasons why I stick with AMD processors (although the Fusion chips did play up with VirtualBox on 64bit).

I don't know much about VMWare but I always understood it to have more stringent controls over what hardware it can run on (when compared to Hyper-V) as such are you sure this move will work for you? Depending on the roles your VHD servers are running you might even be able to do a live migrate to a VMDK using the free tools from VMWare themselves. Alternatively if you could us know what is up with your current Hyper-V install there might be a fix

Speak to your LEA - if your internet is provided by them it will be to both your and their advantage to use central WSUS. The installation/setup is fairly simple and you could do the inital install and they can finish it off setting up the GPOs.

Hi, What is it that you actually want to accomplish? Also what roles does the LEA server take on? Many schools have a local LEA web cache which shouldn't be touched. Also what kind of specification are we talking about in your existing server and are you a Primary/Secondary? James

Hi all! Its been a while since Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) came out and I was wondering how we were all finding it and also if there are any tips/tricks to share? Also if you haven't already had the update you can force it (its not a hack/crack/silly thing you shouldn't do) through the Zune software by following the instructions at this link - Force Mango update early through Zune software and avoid frostbite | wpcentral | Windows Phone News, Forums, and Reviews Best things I have found- Press + Hold the back button and you go to application switching Tasks are included in outlook now Tag photos as favs and they will appear in the background 'slide show' Wider choice of ringtones and you can now add your own through Zune Voice commands seem to work better (none of this Siri rubbish) IE9!!! Bing vision - go to search and tap the eye icon - QR codes work perfectly

Anybody used Phihong or Planet midspans / PoE injectors?

When we've bought them in the past they have always been abvout £25-35 never any more. -
Have a look at Forefront TMG 2010 - it can only ever be run on a dedicated server (or virtual machine as we run it) and it does all the popular VPN protocols and best of all it uses the built in Windows VPN client. We have a SSTP VPN setup here using TMG - the simplest to setup (you only need a valid security certificate for your VPNs address) however it only works with Windows Vista/7.

We used to be in with the servers (before my time though) - 1 full 42U rack of comms kit for the county and 1 half filled rack of our kit (proud to say with virtualisation its now a 1/4 full rack!). One day however we spotted that the maths department were under using their office (in fact we don't think they used it at all) so we drilled a hole through the wall stuff through a network cable and within 3 hours the office was ours. In the grand scheme we are about as far away from the IT classrooms as possible and to be honest it doesn’t impact the work – a IT tech checks each room for obvious signs of problems in the morning and system centre does the rest.

Find out which computers are turned on?
jamesfed replied to TechSupp's topic in How do you do....it?
Guess you could have a look on your DHCP server - any recently updated addresses there could give you at least a starting point. -

A general observation and it has nothing to do with this job (in particular) but is it just me who thinks that posting documents like the Job Description as a word document is horribly unprofessional and that a PDF should be used instead? (these guys have posted a mix on their site of both Word and PDF) -
T-22 now Been a good week - lots of little things but no big works going on. Off to RAF Halton for the weekend so should be pretty good.

They look soooooo cool! I saw one posted outside the HP building in Bracknell once - it did just look like a normal shipping container with big letters HP POD outside. Either way I think someone is about to make a whole shead load of money
-
HP POD- Massive scale out from HP
-
Looks more just like a easy way to enable Shadow Copy to me
-
HP do them - called the HP POD You would probably need to find a big HP reseller to get it to happen though. They look soooo cool

Have to say it- Windows Phone 7, every phone now updated to version 7.5 (so as good a track record for updates as Apple) AND you get to choose how your phone looks (like you do with droid) by way of the hardware. Microsoft have struck the best of both worlds by locking their OEMs into an agreement that compels them to update the phone software as and when new updates come out. Having said that….it’s still early days for Windows Phone 7 so only time will tell how Windows Phone 8 mashes into that support matrix. -
Just like to express my thanks to HP in a public way. Yesterday one of our server hard drives in a RAID 0+1 array gave up the ghost and flat lined - called HP at 3pm hard drive will be with you tomorrow. Its now today the man with the van arrived at just gone 8:30 (we are in from 8) with a new hard drive in tow. Took out the old drive put in the new - went over to the HP System Management homepage and the p410 RAID controller already had the array as rebuilding. Its now 11:31 and the array has finished its rebuild. 0 downtime, next day delivery (even at late notice) and all on a standard warranty! This is why I am a confessed HP fan boy

Going SSD now in our servers/PCs for everything except large data storage (e.g. Shared drives/pupil work). At least now I have more reason to justify it other than 'it’ll be faster'. Either way only a few months ago I bought one of the new Seagate Momentus XT drives (500GB HDD with 4GB of SSD on board) for £80 – prices on all the big names are now to the order of £120+

OCZ modular for your PSU Only a 64GB SSD - what are you going to use for data/game storage?

On the right track at least Wish I could help more but don't have any experience with coding things like that - I'm sure one of the other guys on here will pop up with some expertise at some stage.

Did you get your custom page to appear correctly? Also have you seen this page - Creating custom HTML error messages in Forefront TMG SP2
-
There is something called URL override which might be what you are asking about. Alternatively you can always embed your own HTML code into the block page which could fire off an email to the IT services account.

I've got a 6950 and I can't complain with its performance in any game that I've tried (Crysis 2 included) so I don't think I'd even bother
