  1. Good old LEAs doing what they like! Glad I could've been of help
  2. You might find that if you use a LEA provided internet connection that they are blocking connections to NTP servers. Our LEA does however maintain their own NTP servers which we sync off and you may find that yours do the same.
  3. The whole idea of Windows Phone is high quality every time without fail - thats why the hardware has a min spec and Microsoft limit what OEMs can do UI wise. The same comes down to applications - in fact something I saw on the web said WP7 was the most stable phone OS out of iOS, Android and BB. However to get this level of quality you do get the premium price tag....
  4. Have you looked at DAS? Even cheaper than NAS/SAN in some cases as the connection between your server and storage is via a normal SAS cable and not over the network. Depending on the RAID card you have in already it might already support DAS.
  5. Hi Dave, It was just as you said - just needed to add the cert to the personal store of the machine. Also I created the request on one of our IIS servers so I had to import the GoDaddy cert on there first and then export it (with the private key) to get it on our TMG server. James
  6. Sorry old post already sorted Should've put that down sooner. Cheers!
  7. They were once quite big in the Windows Mobile stage and came back to it all with their Dell Venue Pro (now Windows Phone 7) so its no great surprise.
  8. Yep we have something simlar - Adaptec SCSI Card 29320LPE Storage controller- U320 SCSI- 320 MBps If you are intrested in the Tandberg loader though I'd suggest you take a look at a SAS card as the slow speed of SCSI drags down the backup speed somewhat (not that we arn't getting 2Gb/min all the same).
  9. Microsoft DPM 2010 will do just what you are looking for. You can set disk backups to run daily and then tape backups to run monthly (or whatever works for you) all within the same backup job. Something like a HP DL120 G7 with a bunch of 2TB drives (or whatever capacity you need) and then some kind of tape loader (or even just a USB tape drive) for your long term backups - here we have a Tandberg LTO4 loader.
  10. We run 20 desktops off a AMD 8 core with 44Gb RAM and 4x15k drives and that cost us £3,500 so you could probably do 10 desktops for less
  11. On dear I feel another MS vs Open Source battle of words coming on...
  12. Have a look at Kaviza from Citrix - dosn't use a SAN so it works a treat. Hyper-V edition is currently in beta testing (we are accualy testing it here) however it works with Citrix XenServer (free edition) as well as VMWare (but the less said about that the better!). It should certinly be a possible thing with your budget so if you want to be put in contact with the UK guy who looks after it just give me a PM.
  13. Looks good - sorry to be a little dumb on this but would it work with TMG (or ISA) 2010 forms auth?
  14. Personaly I'm a Hyper-V nut but would never touch XP on Hyper-V due to many a problem with slow performance and bad intergration drivers - so maybe give it a go with Windows 7 to see if you get the same problem. You should also take a look at getting a propper connection broker in place - something like XenDesktop/Kaviza would do you nicely (although oviously not a cure for your immediate problems).
  15. x86-64 only support is of no surprise given 2k8 R2 is x86-64 only (well besides Itanium)...however how long until we see 128bit come out?
  16. See - one look from a marine and they will knock you down with as many injurysSee - one look from a marine and they will knock you down with as many injuries as they feel like.
  17. Did you use the pre installed HP OS? If you did then try a compleate clean install of Windows 7 and then manualy install the drivers + add to domain.
  18. It depends on what your new kit is - so if your NEW severs are HP then you can get the cash back, HP will take any make and model of the OLD servers.
  19. If you got new HP servers then you can trade the old ones in for cash If you have enough old servers and make enough cashback then you could always buy a new cheapish SAN.
  20. The problem with cheap PSUs is that they can only handle their max rated power for short bursts - I would find out the make/model of the PSU and if it is a decent one (OCZ ect) then it should do fine (as they can handle high power usage for long periods) however if you want to ramp that graphics up any more then you will need more power.
  21. Time to crack out the Pimms!
  22. Because of the Aerohive built in Firewall the students traffic can only pass HTTP/HTTPS/FTP over the network (no CIFS/WMI/ect) there are very few routes onto what you might call 'the network'. Our internet goes through our Forefront TMG 2010 server which does active inspection of the data that flows across it including malware scanning. I guess some virus that propagates over HTTP/HTTPS/FTP would be able to infect another students device but I'm not immediately aware of any that work like that. We've got over 100 students signed up to it (1/8th of our student population) no clue how many we've had for students on at any given time but we've never had any bandwidth problems.
  23. System Centre DPM 2010 here - insanely fast on backups to tape and if you get the enterprise class licence you get build in SharePoint/Exchange support as well. Cost might be a bit prohibitive in your situation as I guess you’re not a school?
  24. Should've gone with a 3 way SLI - I hear people getting up to 800x600 on Crysis 2 with that kinda power!
  25. Its one of nVidias uber CAD/CAM/multi do anything who da ma flip cards You find something simlar to these in the Tesla compute servers that are used in some supercomputers.
