Its just wrong! If graduates do so well financially after graduating - they'll be paying more tax back anyway (when I had a "proper" job I paid more in tax each month than I received as a grant per year when I was a student). With the current job outlook - it must be daunting to have £1000s of debt, and little prospect of securing a decent position. If I was 17-18 - I'd be seriously thinking about whether it was worth going to Uni - and thats not a decision that they ought to have to make if they are bright enough to take advantage of the opportunity. In a similar vein - did anyone else see the reviews of the book last week that tied nearly every social ill to the amount of inequality in the society it was being measured in? US at the top of the list (with UK close behind) with large amounts of everything from robbery, abuse, obesity etc following the curve - right at the bottom - Sweden & Japan which apparently have the most equality (ie differential in pay and access to services between richest & poorest). Interesting I thought.

Just to ask the obvious - if you go through youir RBS - you have asked them to set up external IPs and DNS entries, haven't you?

Agree with you there Russ - too much history in that session. I didn't think they pitched the level correctly - if you invite technical people to a technical seminar - I'd have liked a bit more in depth meat to the sessions, rather than the somewhat bland overviews that most of them seemed to be.

I've just purchase a DS3400 (certified for use with VMWare) with 2TB of disks and all the fibre interconnects for our BladeCentre - it was about £7k for the kit.

Can it do a delprof prior to shutdown?

I don't think we'll even be that lucky - Japan worked hard to keep their manufacturing industries and even now spends over twice whatwe do on R&D (as a ratio to GDP). We were happy enough to sacrifice most engineering to overseas production and foreign firms who have very little interest in keeping the wheels rolling over here. Service industries and banking were the saviours - but it doesn't seem to have worked out quite like that - does it? Disgruntled ex-industrial engineer...

As an aside - we are using a combination of SW and TerminatorX for this - as TerminatorX can look at the title bars - its quite handy for blocking the games commonly hidden in XL files, and those brought in on memory sticks or phones. TerminatorX is a really cheap to buy and is a useful second line of defence.

Ditto - we used to be fairly relaxed on the teacher side - but it just lead to abuse by the teachers - letting kids log in on their accounts "so they can can get on with work" oh yeah! In lieu of proper management control of the staff - had to take technological steps to deal with this - so the responsible staff have to suffer along with the rest.

Aye - different times - I lived in Sheffield then, and had worked in mine safety for a while and went on some of the marches - quite scarey. While I thought Scargill pretty stupid both tactically and strategically - you can't fault him for accuracy of what was going to happen to the industry. It beggars (my) belief that its thought better to import the vast majority of our fuel, rather than just dig it out from under our own land (notwithstanding cleanliness/global warming et al), saving money and increasing jobs and skills.

We still haven't implemented the upgrade - but are due to next week - can anyone tell me whether its holding together OK now - or are there still "issues" Thanks

Well - happy to see any current NetOp users giving it the thumbs up?? As I say - we use AB Tutor now and its been first class.

We installed in 2005 with whatever was the current version then, and battled for the next 18 months or so. This was on a vanilla 2003/XP network. We certainly gave them enough opportunities to sort out whatever the problems might have been. A casual search of these forums will show I'm not alone in this experience.

You can rename the vobs to mpg - as they are just mp2 files with a fancy header - some players will handle them OK

I loved his book - Cuckoos Egg - worth a read even now.

While not entirely disagreeing - us taxpayers did seem to have enough cash to make sure the bankers get nigh on a billion in bonuses this year, even after completely stuffing the rest of us...

I'm on the Virgin/NTL - and apart from the annoying shaping, the 20mb is pretty stable where I live.

Google SketchUp is a great tool

I believe the latest version of AB Tutor allows this as well as all the other great stuff.
