We found this to be quite a useful and fairly cheap bit of kit Easily Block MSN Messenger using TerminatorX - avoid having to block MSN ports Not used so much now, as we have better ways to do it - but still handy

We get mess when people get to a PC that is locked and just switch it off and on so they can login - leaving a local profile that then gets in the way when the original user logs in on that PC again - irritating - but can't find a solution - its a people thing not a computer one.

OK... The problem - due to the way they are configured, our switches need to be switched on in a particular order, with a couple of minutes between each tranche for them to "Settle Down". Fine, but we've been having quite frequent power outs (longer than our UPS's could sustain), which causes a big headache for us the next morning as we dash round the site to the different cabs restarting the switches... The solution (?) - what I'm looking for is some sort of mains extension lead that only starts up after a predefined period of time after power comes back - so we could have 3 or 4 cascaded in each cab, with a different set of switches on each, as power is restored the first block would go live, and the second block would see there was power available, but wouldn't switch on for 2-3 minutes, then this would be repeated for each power block through the cascade. Does anyone know of any product like this (can't even think of how to search for it??) - or could be an interesting little project for the home electronics hobbyist? Cheers

If BSF goes - that will be great - its fundamentally misconceived and a ridiculous failed sleight of hand, that was supposed to look like a good deal by keeping some borrowing off Govt figures, but costs a great deal more over the lifespan of the building than just building them as a Govt/Council project would - and now - the costs have to be put on the Govt figures anyway - so doesn't even succeed in that aim. From the ones I've had a look at - I'd be very surprised if they last as well as the building put up in the 1950's. Shameful!

We had a problem like this - if you're using mandatory profiles - had to manually create the My Documents and My Pictures folders within the profile being used as the mandatory one - then everything worked OK - bizarre!

contacted their support and they sent it to me - and our admin/teacher password had been capitalised - I suppose by them mistakenly. Could be worth a try

I used to do a lot of commuting - its OK in summer - but I found it depressing when its dark on the drive there and back. Its a pig if you head east in the morning and west at night - always squinting into the sun.

Always has personally bad memories, as it was when I had a spontaneous tear of the small intestine that nearly killed me - happy days - not!

I think the installed version has the nasty peer to peer sharing software (Kontiki?) too - which will whack your internet

VirtualDubMod or avidemux do this - and are free

About £350 - but we shared the cost - annoyed that we missed a special offer at Debenhams where they were going for £230. Just had a double shot of Toba Sulawesi espresso - top notch!

I'd be surprised (and impressed) if you can get thin clients to show video of a watchable quality.

I'd recommend Panasonic - they have a really lovely picture compared to others I've seen.

B&W every time - but as stated - you have to think about composition differently - textures and shadows are much more important in monochrome - as is the hardness/graininess of the film (or digital source).

This is a useful bodge - specially combined with Excel - so you can just drag the commands down a column in front of the imported logins

Yeah - I got took for over £7 for a large glass of beer to accompany lunch when on hols in Brugges recently - I know its a tourist trap - but flippin heck!

I just want to add that as a company, they have been a pleasure to deal with. We've just deployed 60 of the MF80 boxes - and they were so easy to setup it was a breeze. We previously used Wyse TC units - not bad in themselves, but in a like for like comparison, the Axel box blew them away. The graphics on the Axels were much faster - and while you can't really watch video on them, the frame rate was significantly better than the Wyse boxes. A big plus for us was the ease of management - they come with a management console program where you can fully manage all the boxes and set individual settings - an improvement on the Wyse which had to be all set alike - annoying when you have different monitor sizes in different rooms - they can also be fully locked down from the console - the Wyse were set as all or nothing - so to implement a change, they all had to be unlocked, and change done then all locked up again. Another "nice" feature was the short VGA cables that can be bought with them - when VESA mounting - it makes for a very tidy desk deployment. Matthew from Axel was very helpful, as we had some initial problems getting the appro box to work, due to some settings on our Citrix environment - but these were all dealt with, even though we hadn't committed to buy anything at that stage - he also gave my Senior Tech plenty of help in optimising the build and use of the management soft. So - top marks - well worth considering if you are looking to get some TCs.

I just bought some 24" ws from Dabs for £150 - they are great - as tall as my old 4:3 - but getting on for twice as wide

I went in May - but drove - its only an hour the other side of the tunnel - and having a car gives more flexibility (imho)

Mine was £44 from Currys of all places - though prices have gone up now
