I think I mentioned elsewhere that we "got round" this problem by creating the My Docs etc inside the mandatory profile that we use.

We've got about 30 of them - the kit seems OK - and the engineers are OK - but (for us at least) the training and setup was woeful. Also billing seems to be a complete mess - might not worry you - but it annoys the heck out of our finance staff.

When we run computerised exams - we schedule two exams for each IT suite with the kids sitting alternatively round the room - so even if they glance at their neighbour - they'll be doing a completely different exam - simples

Ah you beat me to it - we bought some WASP readers and had the same problem. Also found that we had to set the keyboard to US to get it to read the correct key when setting it (??) - much better now we bought USB readers - not the old serial type.

Interesting thread - I bought a camera from Camerabox last November and my credit card was ripped off for £900 in December at an Italian clothing company - I hadn't put the two together - but after reading some of the comments on the net - seems like its probably connected. I'm surprised your AVG quote was so high - our renewal this year was in the region of £2500 for up to 30 servers and 450 clients - and it would've been a lot cheaper if I could have committed to a multiple year job.

I find it difficult to believe there is no way for the kids to "buy" credit with cash on the day, either through "money loaders" or at the Finance office - you couldn't run a system that demanded every parent had to run an internet connected PC to pay for lunch. I don't think they should offer credit though - its just a chasm of pain - what if he spends his "overdraft" and then still doesn't pay and wants dinner the next day - theres got to be a point where you say "No" - so why not make it before you owe the school money.

Yep - turn on auditing - these things strangely stopped when we could prove who had done what. I'd recommend grabbing "System Change Log" from System Change Log It makes it a lot easier to read

Hi As per the title - has anyone got any suggestions for good Financial Planning/Budgeting type software for schools that will play nicely on the network? Currently we use FPS from HCSS, and while it does the job - it is definitely a single user application and doesn't play nicely on the network with several people having access. While personally I think that really there should only be one person using the software - we have the world and his wife sticking their fingers in - so need something a bit more "robust". Any alternatives? btw - we're CMIS - so no SIMS only suggestions - thanks

With you there - I reckon what they need are strict standards for data exchange that are enforced, then let departments get on with it. Big Govt projects are always a 'mare - and having worked in some - I can see why - as the targets/project direction/users/owners/outcomes/inputs are all available for change at no or little notice to whoever is shouting loudest - so there's never a clear idea of what is going on.

Yeah - we put in an outward facing Citrix solution - so that staff can work from home pretty much as if they were at their PC in school - which seems to work well - as they can do their reports etc when they feel like it and there are no problems with backups/incompatible software etc - the only probs are with people out in the sticks who can't get a relatively decent bb connection

We found that this resulted in the students working hard to find out the teachers login & password - or even worse - the teacher letting students use their login because "little Johnny needed it and he's very trustworthy" - alas SLT are less use than a wet blanket - so actions like this go unremarked...

Thats the story here too.

We did 260,000 pages last quarter - mostly by staff. Its my contention that the only way to get staff to be responsible is to make them responsible by charging the costs back to their departments - but SLT won't wear it here - for some reason...

I would guess they have got (Unread Messages) set - at the top near where it says Inbox - just choose (2 Line View) or similar from the drop down and see if they all reappear!

We use ours - at least your prospectus story isn't as bad as ours - where the Head decided she wanted a .com address, and printed and distributed the prospectus & headed letter paper before checking whether it was available. It wasn't...and somehow it was my fault that the owner didn't want to give it up - numpties!
