  1. Now you're just trying to rub me up the wrong way :D
  2. I wish I could get our lot to dump FMS - hideous software. Do bear in mind though - theres a bit more to implementing a new accounting package than just installing it - will your accountant be doing all of that for you?
  3. Ditto - but Waitrose not Booths - you lucky chap - its like one of those old IQ questions Booths is to Waitrose as Waitrose is to Morrisons I did read that they'd changed the bean recipe recently (in Which where the old recipe was positively reviewed) - anyone tried he new one?
  4. Definitely bring back National Service - now I'm too old to have to do it myself
  5. We turned "journaling" on for students, then had a specific journaling account set up so we could track its usage.
  6. Interesting points mate
  7. Thanks for the offer Martin - I might well take you up on that in the not too distant future. Cheers
  8. Hi - I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has a CMIS set up and give parents access to all the relevant bits & pieces (either through ePortal or other means Moodle/VLP). Happy to receive a PM and if you're within a reasonable distance of Northampton - maybe even ome & have a look/chat? Thanks
  9. Whereabouts is that forecourt - I'm up that way in a few days & could do with a cheap(ish) fill up!
  10. I'd say, from bitter experience, that unless you have complete buy in from SLT - don't bother - we went to a managed solution, then had to put extra printers back in for everyone who moaned to SLT - complete waste of time. Start by trying to implement a chargeback system where the departments have to cough up for the prints and the prices are skewed to using the cheapest options. When the money crunch comes through the dept heads will police this for you as they see their budgets being swallowed up - then you can go for a managed solution - as they will see the benefits.
  11. I'd ask "What would you say to a member of SLT when they instruct me to do a task that breaks current policies & procedures that we have agreed?" Note the bitter & twisted tone...
  12. As long as you're happy for me to post my PO that you got sent and your emails on the subject following my queries. I thought I was pretty clear that I shouldered some of the blame for this mix up, and certainly didn't expect such a vociferous exchange all round, and had we been able to come to some mutual agreement, I wouldn't have needed to post here at all. /* scouse accent on */ calm down now /* scouse accent off */
  13. Well - a lot of comment. I thought I was pretty fair with the initial comment, and accepted I should've checked the shipment more closely - but I asked for and ordered (in writing) DVD writers. I told Simon of the mistake and he told me on the phone and by email that he would rectify the situation - but he didn't. I think its fair to let people know that a supplier might not be quite as helpful after they have your money than they are when they are pitching for your business.

    CP

I know a lot of people praise Simon at CP - but my experience has not been so good. Back last summer I ordered 10 x DVD writers to fit some of our new Dells. A box of drives arrived and we fitted them into the PCs. A week or two later, we had a complaint from a user that they couldn't burn a DVD, so we duly trundle off to have a look. It turns out that we have been sent DVD ROMs not writers, and I know I should have checked carefully - but even so, they weren't as ordered. A regular exchange of phone calls & emails produced a string of excuses about why the exchange had not happened, but no result. After 6 months, I am out of patience. I told Simon a while ago that I would be posting here, if we had not had a resolution - and so here we are. Disappointing, but there are plenty of other suppliers, caveat emptor and all that.
  15. We go all glass - great - now - anyone got any keyboards that are vandal-proof?
  16. We use AB Tutor on our thin clients - seems to work fine.
  17. Do you have to set the "Default" settings as well - I found we had to do both places to force it on our printers (not same model)
  18. That may be your guess - but its not the law - technically its an infringement as soon as you rip the CD - making it accessible on a network just compounds it.
  19. You can use your GPOs - but you have to "reverse" your thinking - block everything and then only allow the exes with the correct hash to run...
  20. Yeah - windows auditing will track this.....if you've switched it on...
  21. Could be anything - I've had everything from practical tests connecting broken PCs up - to theory tests so over complicated that I didn't even understand the question. let alone know the answers. Good luck!
  22. Brain the size of a planet...
  23. For internal remote control - ABTutor - externally - well one of the LogMeIn or Teamviewer products?
  24. Delete all the illegal music & videos and all the gigabytes of personal digital photos??
  25. Well - at least we're not like Ireland (or at least not til after the election) where public sector has had a 15% wage cut, plus loads of redundancies - that would hurt...
