I'd be interested to hear suggestions on this - as I have a similar issue - 2 DCs both with GC, DNS etc - but if the first server is down, no logins can happen. Any ideas appreciated

Hi - I'm looking for some moderately priced, wall mountable USB powered speakers for classroom use. The monkeys who designed our school put projectors and IWBs in all rooms, but no speakers and its too expensive to retrofit power sockets - so looking for USB type. Anyone got any recommendations?

Think you can still grab an older version that can handle asf if you look round VirtualDub v1.3c (freeware)

Panasonic TVs have a card slot that does this straight off..

From our experience - I think the major difference is that Facility really needs a proper dba who knows what they are doing, as its provided more as a blank system which you can customise, rather than SIMS, which seemed to lay out how you must do things - so you need to put a lot of thought into how the system is going to used prior to set up. We didn't and suffered the pain of this. Plus points - updates are a breeze (assuming you checked they work - but thats the same with SIMS), eportal is dead easy. Personally, for me, I much prefer it to SIMS - but word on the grapevine says we might be swapping back - so I'll have done migrations in both directions! What fun.

[ghost] USB Ghost BOOT with common NIC drivers

Seconded - great bit of kit - we combine this with a bit of code that inspects the PC bios - so it automatically knows which image to load. -
I believe VirtualDubMod can do this with the Logo filter Logo Filter for VirtualDub

I favour Download Youtube Video. Just add 'Kiss'! Keep It Super Simple. - KissYouTube -
I don't think that how it is viewed is down to me. I'm as happy to talk it up as anyone and have spent time on the local branch as an officer - but frankly, at employers and local firms, I was usually greeted with at best a shrug (even from the public sector) and at worst, complete ignorance. As I've said before - for it to have value, it needs to be a mandatory requirement - you don't get to be an engineer because you played with lego, or a doctor after playing at doctors & nurses - but anyone can say they are an IT Professional after fiddling about on a PC at home - and as most of us know - its not the same thing at all.

I wrote Conveyancing, Litigation and Probate systems for legal practices a long time ago - can't believe I did it all single handed. This was in "4GLs" under Unix. Loved programming to start with, but after 5 or 6 years I was completely bored - soon as I knew I could do it - it was just long winded typing.

Until its a mandatory requirement to have a Chartered ICT person on board (like Accountants or Engineers) - I think this is doomed to irrelevance for the most part. And I sadly say that as a MBCS CITP, myself.

Hi - we've got some Clevertouch boards that need repairing - anyone know of a firm that does this? Cheers

I'm with on the downsides - I tried quite hard to change their minds - we have ePortal registration as it is - if a teacher can't take a register on that - I don't see how having a fingerprint reader is going to improve - as you've introduced another couple of failure points in every classroom (the reader itself, the software and whether it scans the finger correctly) - just seems like a lot of expense & hassle for very few tangible benefits.

software/ script to show shared folder tree structure with permissions?
SpuffMonkey replied to GlennT's topic in Windows
I think shareenum does this - free MS download -
Those mods sound interesting - gotta a link?

Our script dumps to a database - with a nice little web based query front end - makes searching this stuff down nice & easy

Mebbe - but I don't think the motion detectors are that sensitive!
-
Not really on topic - but as we're talking of ghosts - our corridor and classroom lighting is on motion detectors - in the middle of the night - some corridors light up as if someone is walking down them - you can see the lights come on in the CCTV system - which is on motion detect over night. Sometimes it runs right from one side of the building to the other side in sequence - quite spooky to watch. The Site Manager lives opposite and called the police one night as he was sure we had burglars - but there was nobody...
