seconded - I found Stonehenge a disappointment - whereas Avebury is "Wow" - then you need to watch "Children of the Stones" From Wolverhampton - Leominster, Hereford, Ludlow and surroundings are pretty, Brecon Beacons and mid-Wales - Pistyll Rhaeadr deffo worth a look, specially after rain - down to the Mumbles and Gower and Pembroke coast (Tenby) Going east is a bit flatter really - so less dramatic - but pretty in places - Cotswolds/Fens/Lincoln & Lincolnshire Wolds (Louth) Bon voyage

There's a patch for XP SP3 that fixes a login problem (usually after a password change) that really slows down logins - sorry - can't remember the link at the mo

No joke! When we offered remote logins via Citrix - I had more than one member of staff demanding I pay for a PC and their broadband connection charges. I firmly told them that this was just an optional help for them and they were welcome to work at school into the evenings. Flippin chancers!

On our setup - this is almost always caused by a connectivity issue - network cable damaged or pulled out, damaged wall socket etc etc

Took my 13 year old target shooting the other day. The local club has open days every couple of months where (under supervision) you can try out shooting rifles & pistols. It was great fun - we started on the .22's and worked up to .44 rifles It wasn't half as expensive as I thought it might be and was an interesting reminder to the lad (who spends every minute he can shooting things in computer games) that guns in reality are very dangerous and need to be treated with respect.

As Broc says - in the majority of schools - edication ain't like industry - it was a big shock to me when I started. Unless you're very lucky, you'll see what the kids & staff do to the kit and understand why your technician has an "iron grip"! You may even come to appreciate it! ;-)

Is it this? The Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit includes a utility called Server Share Check. This is a command line utility that will list all non-hidden shares on a computer (it also works on Windows XP and Windows 2000). It also enumerates the Access Control List (ACL) for each share. In other words, it will tell you the user and groups who have access to a share and the type of access they have (no access, read, change, and full control).

A mate is lookiong for a new PC (box only) - it doesn't need to be powerful, but it does need to be a nice standard configuration inside (no Dell type funnies) and have space and connections for a couple of additional hard drives (SATA) as he has his music collection ripped to flac for use with streaming boxes. Hi - not sure whether to put this here or in "Red Door" We have a large batch of these - without DVD/floppy drives - the students here have taken to punching in the blanking plates and snapping the dividing bar - putting their hands inside and nicking the RAM. While, personally, I think this is a classroom management issue, there is little chance of action on that front - has anyone any suggestions on how we can make them more secure without a lot of expenditure?
