DFE - Gigabit Broadband for Schools
Sylv3r replied to password1234's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I was contacted as a trust before the summer holidays with 14 of our schools indicated as being on the list. Probably whoever was the main trust contact on the CtC programme will be contacted - if you weren't part of Connect the Classroom then the initial email will probably go to the HT. -

I chased them and managed to get an answer in the end. I am not sure what the hold up was with. -

I have had confirmation yesterday that one more of our schools qualifies - that takes us up to 15 since the whole programme started. -
We are going down a Proof of Concept with PaperCut hive this week with one primary. At their copier is via Konica Minolta we are going to use them as our partner. I'll let you know in a few weeks how we get on.

DfE Connecting the Classroom project funding

The CtC scheme generally appears to be regionalised. If you are aware of any other local schools that have been invited to participate in the CtC scheme, then you possibly have missed out but I would hazard a guess that the DfE would try a number of times to contact the school if they didn't get anything back. I believe the first three phases of the CtC pilot was worth around £30M. The most recent announcement at BETT on further waves mentioned £150M, but I am not sure if this is also for the 100MB primary and 1GB Secondary broadband target for 2025 also. -
I'm not sure if it's possible to remove completely. I've always had to call it something like XXAF
-
We've had several requests to be part of this trial through Wonde also. We are logging into the Wonde platform and rejecting them.
-
For E-mail we used CodeTwo, for OneDrive we used mover.io. Sharepoint and Teams we didn't really have a plan.

I've not seen that e-mail come through to me yet and I am the person that received the 44 e-mails with regards to renewing our SIMS schools via the portal !
-
Salamander or Locker (Ruler) would be your best bet. Obviously there's a cost involved. If you have SIMS InTouch, I think this could be done directly from SIMS too although a further cost. As pointed out above - either of the two products will give you a lot more for your money and well worth it in my opinion.

Our site team have access to ours and I have no ideas with that - they wouldn't however go in unless they have a good reason to do so.
-
We use this here - https://www.myassettag.com/assettiger/ It's based on the number of assets so I cant imagine it will be that expensive for a single primary.

DfE laptops security measures

Does anybody know what will happen to these devices if we don't wipe them? Will they continue to work as previous and only the filtering will stop - asking for a friend -

We have one school that has qualified and we are also looking at Meraki to match the setup we already have. -
We had £20k of online payments added to our accounts.... I wasn't one of the lucky ones !

We've restricted the appointments to 4 minutes and generally the teachers see a maximum of 35 parents. We treat it on a first come first served basis - similar to if a parent wanted to go to a music concert - if they don't get in quick and there's no slots left then they go on the waiting list.

[sims] Can WONDE sync ParentPay? if not what can?
Sylv3r replied to coolhands's topic in MIS Systems
We spend more time supporting ParentPay with our primaries then nearly any other bit of software. You ring the support line to be generally sent some random PDF. -
We have chat enabled here but monitor it via the SENSO Teams monitoring tool at £1 per user - it works really well, students know that key words are logged so most chats are on task, students helping each other with homework etc. There's the occasional random message sent - but we can put up with that !

I still wear shirt, tie and suit but my lads all wear polo shirts / T-Shirts and cargo pants. Polo / Shirts all have our school logo stitched in. We've also got a softcell coat and a more heavy duty coat once it gets a bit colder with the same school crest stitching. We buy from here: https://www.arco.co.uk/

We are a happy Ruler (Locker) customer and have been for a year or so. We will be a 48 school Trust come June next year and are contemplating purchasing for each school just to save the headache of day-to-day account management. Salamander from what I see is also an excellent product and I don't think there's a great deal between the two - I went with Locker primarily because of the GUI rather than the scripting element.

Yes we have also seen that here over the last week on multiple sites.

We are letting students keep them for now - we've identified a barrier for learning for certain students i.e. not having a device, to take it back from them is counter productive.

We used this and it worked reasonably well. Not sure of the costs off the top of my head. https://www.codetwo.com/office-365-migration/
