Office365: Naming Convention (Display Name) for Staff / Pupils
Sylv3r replied to MYK-IT's topic in Cloud Services
Our staff are Mr J Smith (school code) and the students are Forename Surname (school code) We have disabled the use of students uploading their own profile images but will likely set them as all the school crest, for staff we are going to update all staff pen portrait images from our MIS. -
I think the email said from the 5th. I've not had any for our schools yet either. I am sure something will land next week.
-
If there is - we haven't bought any !

130ish - probably around 80% DfE allocated with 20% from school stock. 1 x smashed screen 2 x magically gone missing

Not much to it to - download the client from Azure (it helps you use the very latest version) then just follow the wizard. You'll need to add your O365 admin credentials (may have to be a global admin) Add your domain admin credentials From within Azure, you will then be able to enable password hash, filter by OU and then enable it. Obviously your users within AD will need to match the domain syntax that you are going want to use in O365.

It sounds like we have a similar setup to you. We have 8 schools currently in our Azure using the Azure Cloud Sync tool - we have 48 schools in our trust but for whatever reason I can't get any more schools added - I am not sure if there's a limit or there's something else wrong - in theory we've done nothing different. This is our initial plan especially if it worked - other than that we will have to revert to a single server running AAD Connect and then linking all of the AD's that way. The long term plan is a single domain, but that's a while away.

I uploaded our info on Saturday and still waiting for all networks.

Chromebooks in Schools
Sylv3r replied to discoveranother's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Certainly not a waste of time here. We are a fully Office365 school but have over 250 laptops including those provided by the DfE for students. The devices are perfect for us to enable students to access web-based resources including Microsoft Teams as well as providing us with the ability to lock the devices down via the G Suite Admin. We've rolled out Smoothwall to the devices too and filtering is working really well. It all comes down to the requirements of the school - yes they are not fit for purpose to power interactive whiteboards and whiteboard software, but they'll be plenty user cases where they do have value. -
That's interesting - I had two reports today that a student hasn't received the Join button for two subjects - Maths and iMedia but it shows for the others, so I am not sure if it's the time issue for us.

Petition - Allow driving instructors to pass learners unable to book a test
Sylv3r replied to Protec's topic in General Chat
On a different theme - and this is not me tarnishing the reputation of all driving instructors, but they'll be some out there that wouldn't pass anybody because they know there's guaranteed income when things get back to normal as they'll continue to have to take lessons. However, with regards to lessons taking place when things do get back to normal because people haven't been able to - they'll be such a backlog it may even be difficult for anybody who has turned 17 over the last few months to get booked on with an instructor. -
We use it for visitor signining in, but again we couldn't get it to work suitably for our sixth form. Especially when some students had free lessons etc so there wouldn't be a lesson to write back too.

Form/Database to record Covid Testing
Sylv3r replied to Wirral_Wonderer's topic in How do you do....it?
We are thinking about buying this - sounds good for £200 https://uk.schoolscreener.com/school-covid-manager/ -
We use the CRB App for online ordering - it's a bit clunky to get setup but it does work.
-
We went with the Chromebooks but are a O365 school. You'll be surprised how quick they arrive - I placed the order one day and they turned up the next.
-
We've used this here for about 5 or 6 years. https://www.connectwise.com/software/control
-
We used https://www.codetwo.com/office-365-migration/ for Mailbox to Mailbox from two different tenancies and mover.io for people's OneDrive. Sharepoint migration was done manually which was a bit of a pain.

We've done 4 parents evenings via the schoolcloud system. Generally it's worked well but we've made a couple of tweaks to the firewall for our next evening next Wednesday to try and rule out a few issues. In the main it's worked well, but we get the occasional parent who says they were unable to see / hear the member of staff. It's difficult to work out if the issue lies with us or the parent - we've had some staff who have been at home and still had issues connecting with some parents so we think its with the end user. It's likely that when (if) things eventually get back to normal we won't move back to the traditional parents evening in the main hall and will just continue to carry out parents' evenings via this method - staff love it.

I could be wrong but I am not even sure if Learning Gateway is still a thing.

Meraki in our secondary and Unifi in 6 primaries. Both perfect for the size of the schools - couldn't justify the cost of Meraki for a primary and I am not sure how good Unifi would be for a secondary.
-
We got them at the start of the week - both great long overdue improvements.

MS Teams meeting invite inviting users to Google Meet?!
Sylv3r replied to maxrebo's topic in Cloud Services
I can't think why - but are these personal e-mail addresses gmail accounts? -
We were considering not allowing student access on PC's and our bookable devices initially - I was also contemplating giving each member of staff their own keyboard / mouse which they could carry round with them and plug in to use.

DfE confirms £2,000 funding to get you set up on Office 365 or G Suite
Sylv3r replied to techy32's topic in Cloud Services
Absolutely, I wasn't having a prod at any of them. It was more about the sheer man power and the size of the business then the quality of the service provided. To be honest - the smaller companies might do a better personalised job then the big boys.
