I am happy for my team to swap projectors etc onto existing brackets etc in the event of having to come down to change lamp / replace projector but a new install I am more comfortable getting someone in from a liability point of view. We don't tend to bother with interactive screens as nobody uses them, but we are happy to stick up some normal wipe-boards to project onto.

We tried this at the start of the year but now finding it's a bit unusable so in the process of rolling out two screens on the desk. One screen is the primary display (just for staff use) and the other screen is for students / projecting. We've found it easier than teachers having to turn around to work out exactly where the mouse and window is on the projector screen.

Our PE department have Go Pro's. They record the footage, they bring it to us and the recording is compressed. We have a NAS box that has a drive mapped that only PE staff have access too which the files are copied over too.

We had issues initially with the handles but as geohanson mentions, we have found the latest batch to be strengthened and we've not had an issue so far.

We had a demo of this 6 months ago, it looked ok from the outset but for the cost... and I can't remember exactly what it was we decided a bit of manual labour was worth continuing doing.

We are a freshdesk user for our 6 schools. Works well and we are happy with it.

I would definitely recommend a new server and migrate the DB's over. There's plenty guides on the SupportNet site on how to do it, or depending who you receive your SIMS support from, they'll be able to do it for you for a fee.

I've picked my team ready and all set to join.

I've had that exact same operation - best decision I ever made. Went through the pain for around 4 or 5 years before we eventually worked out what it was. Was in and out of hospital in around 5 - 6 hours. Felt absolutely fine, had fish and chips for me tea and took it easy for a few days but other than that couldn't believe how great I felt. I was off work for 3 weeks - my operation fell the week before christmas so it was mostly during the holidays anyway. I was advised not to drive for 3 weeks, which I stuck to but I imagine I would have been alright from a discomfort point of view after about 2 weeks. I reguarly went out for walks whilst I was off and although did feel a little more tired than usual after the first few days, it was good to get out for a bit freshair. Didn't have to return to the hospital afterwards and I just keep the dressing clean and removed it after about a week and a half when it started to loose it's stick - 4 small marks form the incisions but other than that you can't really see any major scar.

School Websites - what do people do?
Sylv3r replied to mikes's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We previously hosted our joomla servers ourselves, but as we are quite rural we had several school closures due to no electricity during high winds etc, and we generally text the parents regarding school school closures but then provide further information on our website - as our website would therefore be down in the event of a powercut we decided to move to WIX. -
SchoolsCOMMS - Report can be emailed but we also provide an archive via the app too.

17smith.j here. Any duplicates are 17smith.j1, 17smith.j2 etc.

It seems to be back now, not sure what time it returned.

Prodominantly federating O365 and G Suite accounts. We use OneDrive mapper now, but are currently working on the OneDrive client with on demand. Once we get it working, that's pretty much us, moving away - i've got until May 2019.

We had to remove the SSL inspection from YouTube too in order to get it to work. There's possibly a better way... but we couldn't find an alternative !

I do think it's improved since the supportnet days, but it still is light years behind other support solutions.

Ours increased significantly too. We were one of the first schools to use RM Unify so got the introductory price of £500 certainly for the first year and possibly the year after, now it's closer to £2k, when we found out that close to renewal time I didn't have much choice, but I think we will be moving away next year.

Thanks, I'll do some more digging myself and let let you know what I find.

We used sQuid previously and had no issues, however 12 months ago we moved to SchoolComms so we could have an integrated Messaging, Reporting and Payment system as well as a mobile app in One. The charges are reasonable and when ever I have needed to use the support, the person who picks up the phone 9/10 resolves my issue first time. We are also a CRB Cunninghams user and it integrates well - there's a slight bit of work to carry out the implementation of the system and there's a charge from CRB for this. If it's just a payment system you are after for cashless catering, CRB over their own solution but I don't know what it's like. If I could think of a couple of suggestions that I would like to see Schoolcomms include they would be: Ability to auto top-up accounts, we had this with sQuid where the parent would setup something where the lunch accounts would credit automatically each week Ability to inform parents easily with a low balance, this is possible with Schoolcomms but it's a bit of a one system for all - some students who don't use the canteen may have a £0.00 balance, but would still receive a text message / email saying the balance is low based on the threshold you have to set i.e. accounts under a certain balance.

I must admit I have noticed our backups taking longer than previous but hadn't put two and two together to say it was Panda360 related. I've added those exceptions to see if it makes any difference at this end. Some of our backups now appear to be ending during the school day and we see high iOPS which results in servers going offline for 10 - 15 mins when snapshots are being merged.

CCTV retention and GDPR
Sylv3r replied to Anothername's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
It looks like we all differ, I vaguely remember reading something that mentioned 28 days so that's what we've gone with. I imagine as long as your CCTV policy reflects the period of time and justification for doing so, it will be OK - most of these data retention's seem to be open to interpretation and are only as a guide more so than actual fact. -
Poll: Data Protection Officer?
Sylv3r replied to Gongalong's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Director of Academy Services here - we have a business manager also, but it's a slightly elevated role to that. -
New Staff starters + login accounts\emails
Sylv3r replied to Kyle's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We run a new staff INSET day in the last week of July and they all get given their logon details to the network, e-mail and VLE on this date. They don't get SIMS access until 1st September. -
