Video Conferencing - Alternatives to Adobe Connect?
Sylv3r replied to virnuls's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
There's also a web version for Skype For Business, which although would still require a plugin, it's a lot smaller and easier to rollout then the full blown skype client. -
We use TSO host for all our domains - no issues.

Video Conferencing - Alternatives to Adobe Connect?

Skype for Business should allow all that and free through Office365. -
Our KS1 students have their own logons, but a standard password for everybody. Our KS2 students, have all chosen their own password and they probably do better than our secondary age students in remembering their logon details !

We are another happy AMC customer - especially for day to day stuff. When we are looking at bigger purchases, we use AMC with the likes of Softcat, Stone etc.

You need to go onto the App store on the mac and browse for Apple Configurator 2 then install it. You could try this link: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/apple-configurator-2/id1037126344?mt=12

Looks expensive for individual home users - £45 per month for GCSE Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) - what sort of ballpark are we talking for a school licence?

Not sure if this will work or if theres a way to rollout manually or as part of a startup script. https://esupport.trendmicro.com/en-us/home/pages/technical-support/1104912.aspx?vwd=KB-_-prd=gen-_-src=KB1037161-_-loc=Default

We didn't have any issues with sQuid in the three years we used them, the biggest driving factor was giving parents one app that allowed them to check student timetables, behaviour, school reports and online payments under the one logon was my biggest reason to switch. Since we've moved to the one system, the uptake has certainly increased. sQuid didn't have an app when we used it and I didn't want parents having multiple logons for various systems.

Freedom of Information request
Sylv3r replied to Jobos's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
A lot of that information will be in the public domain - number of students in school, gender of your headteacher etc. I'd tell them to go look themselves ! -
We use schoolcomms and CRB (Cunninghams) - they have had some flack on this forum, but we couldn't speak highly of them through their support from their Scotland office. We've been using both together since around June. Previously we used sQuid which again, worked well. There's a couple of features that I think schoolcomms lacks that sQuid offered us and several parents have mentioned it - automatic top-ups being the biggy, with the sQuid system parents could set when they automatically went below a certain value to top back up - at present parents are having to remember to check the balance regularly and top-up manually.

All of our primaries use CPOMS. I've had very little to do with it so it must be relatively simple to use and manage - they are all happy with it.

I used to use them years ago as I liked the fact they had a webstore. Haven't used them in a long time - since the smaller companies have started to be able to get better prices - probably with a lot less overheads.

We've previosuly had the issue with the google captcha form but smoothwall believed the issue wasn't with them, but we've not had any recent issues. This is what i've taken from another post on the site: Guidance for Google Captcha Issues We are aware of an issue where multiple customers are experiencing the Google Captcha (Robots) page. This is something Google have changed within their settings which is causing the Captcha page to be shown to some users. Important: It is likely that this issue will resolve itself after 24 hours, once Google adjust the Captcha settings. Smoothwall's advice Our recommended solution is to contact Google to inform them that you are being caught by the Captcha page. The Google contact button can be found at the bottom of the Google search page by clicking Settings and sending feedback. A short term solution would involve disabling HTTPS decrypt and inspecting your client machines, however as you will no longer be able to filter HTTPS effectively, we do not recommend this. To summarise, your Smoothwall is not causing this issue, Google have adjusted their Captcha settings which is causing users to see the Google Captcha page.

Your going to be needing a report exported into excel and something like conditional formatting setup on the spreadsheet. SIMS won't do this out of the box I believe. It may be more work than it's worth.

We used to use smartwater, but we found in recent years it became quite expensive also. I've just bought some cheap UV pens from ebay, and these appear to be just as good. Just mark up the school postcode and a UV light brings it all up - it even seems to last a few years too.

I know its all a bit "how longs a piece of string" and will depend on the size of the room / kit used etc, but whats a ballpark figure on a suppression system for those that have had one installed. I guess both from a point of view of a brand new build and a retrofit on an existing server room.

When you get it all setup, give me a shout as i'd love to call in and see it in action.

We had issues with our SIP lines through BT today from around 10:30ish and my mobile on EE has been hit and miss all day too dialing in and out.
-
I occasionally see it here too with chrome and smoothwall. Again, only probably on my machine due to the number of tabs and period of time they are in place for.

We are also self hosted and stopped paying the support contract from September.

Our Sixth Form students get theres done over the first week a class at a time. We just use a cheapish point and click camera and the photos go onto both SIMS and their Lanyard ID - the images are that small the quality doesn't really matter.

Staff are asked to use their mobile away from students in the staff room / work room but we've not contemplated the barring of Apple Watches etc.
