I think we are all missing the most important question here - is Ben Abbott still on roll or does he have children at the school on the demo data?

Redoing the school website
Sylv3r replied to timbo343's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We've used Joomla in the past but gone for WIX this time. Pretty flexible and easy to add content. -
Does your LA provide SIMS support - I know ours (Durham) runs NovaT training.

Our use this site here. Online Stopwatch

I'm interested why you guys don't like Meraki - we've got it setup in 4 of our schools and we've had no issues at all with it. We used Airwatch previously, and we didn't have many issues with it, I just thought Meraki was more intuitive.

We've added some primaries to Office365 lately and im sure they seem to have automatically gone onto the UK data centres, does anybody have an idea when the cut off was from using the servers from outside of the UK to within the UK. Just so I can double check all schools and move them over if necessary.

Sylv3r replied to RobFuller's topic in How do you do....it?
We don't use it, but i received this e-mail today which maybe useful too you. Hi Andrew, Register for your place on our Skype for Business All Day Workshop, choose from one of 5 city locations on 5 different dates. Do you have an aging PBX that is approaching EOL or End of Support? Are you looking to drive a more collaborative workforce? Is flexibility or mobility a business driver? Are you interested in what Cloud options are available to you? Join us for a one day workshop to learn more and leave with a greater understanding of what Skype for Business can offer your organisation. You will learn about: The real business value of Skype for Business Online Meetings, Meeting Broadcast and Room System options We will also demonstrate how PSTN Conferencing and Calling can be activated and where possible we will enable it on your own Office 365 tenant. Using the capabilities really enable you to appreciate it's power and simplicity. The workshop will be interactive, with demonstrations, and the opportunity to experience Skype for Business in-person. Skype for Business experts from Microsoft and our Partners will be on hand to answer any specific questions you may have and discuss future roadmap items. We look forward to seeing you at the event. RM Unify - Anyone using it answer a couple of questions?
Sylv3r replied to tj2419's topic in Cloud Services
This might help with what RM are planning to introduce into the future. https://trello.com/b/qpuOCQTg/rm-unify We are a Office365 school with RM Unify and are very happy with it. -
I've done an Office365 launch with one of our primaries today and it seemed to have been playing ball today.
-
I logged onto my user tonight and we've still got the issue of only getting the two or three icons. I don't think anybody else in school or our 2 primaries using Office365 has mentioned it or i've seen nothing logged onto our helpdesk anyway.

We moved from the LA to capita direct support when we became an academy as we used SLG and we found the LA couldn't support us with this and I was having to contact CAPITA to ask them to send us the updates etc. We had no issues with the LA and cost wise it was very similar - we are pretty self sufficient when it comes to SIMS so found we only used the LA around twice over an 18 month period so felt we might as well move - I guess one advantage is, our LA is limited to the number of staff able to assist with SIMS queries at busy times - I imagine CAPITA have a bigger team in place with 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support.
-
I think it wouldn't cause any issues remapping the drives to alternative locations from a shared area point of view - one issue I can think of is if you have file rules setup generally these will likely have been done with UNC paths rather than drive letters, so these may need recreating for your P:\ software.

Archiving attendance data in SIMS- what format does outputted data use?
Sylv3r replied to dumontict's topic in MIS Systems
I think from past experience the archived attendance data marks historic information as old data, but i've never seen it actually output anything.- 3 replies

Neil Fingleton, Game Of Thrones Star And UK's Tallest Man, Dies Aged 36

Sad news, Neil's brother is one of our ICT teachers here. -
We had the google map issue - this patch will fix that problem. Not sure about the issue with the photo gallery, but fingers crossed this sorts it too. Download Your Update Or Patch Here

I installed it to a shared drive on a server and pointed the shorcut to the file - didn't have to install anything on the clients that way, and once the install was updated it was up-to-date for everybody.
-
We've used SLG here from a secondary school prospective, but I agree it's overkill for a primary bit will do everything you listed. There's probably some cheaper alternatives available - Insight and SchoolCOMMS for two. I think Groupcall have recently brought their own similar system out too recently.
-
We backup to a QNAP box with Veeam - no issues.
-
We bought it around 6 months ago - it's not cheap, but the staff have bought into it and most students or using it as either homework or class work tasks. We've setup the MIS integration too, so the classes are kept up-to-date each day through Groupcall emerge.
