We've been using this for the last 3 months. Relatively cheap and easy to setup. It's cost us a price of an iPAD Mini, Wirless printer and about £15 per month for the use of the app. We were paying roughly £3k per year for the pre-printed bits of paper you tear off!

We've got one member staff in Music on about 170GB and then our next biggest is 130GB. Most staff are less than 5GB. We are not short of space and backups are going through so I don't have much of a problem with it. The music member of staff is one of these when he creates something he saves about every 5 minutes incase he 'looses something'

I think we've done around 5 in my 15 years here. We've had more PC HDD failures then server HDD's thankfully.

We've only got the one which was purchased from Stone.

We used Kaspersky and Symantec in the past as Local Authority offerings and have used SCCM Forefront for around the last 8 - 12 months. I can't really sure it's done any worse or better than the previous solutions but we haven't had any major issues and once setup it's just worked for us.

[sims] Create new academic years painfully slow. Is this normal?
Sylv3r replied to sparkeh's topic in MIS Systems
I've always found it takes a lot longer when people are using SIMS. I tend to dial in on a night and run it and it takes around 20 minutes or so. -
We've never really had any major issues. Everytime we've needed support even for simple queries they have always got back to us pretty sharpish.

Anyone moved to vsphere 6? benefits over 5.5?
Sylv3r replied to ranj's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
We are probably going to wait another 6 - 12 months before we make the jump to 6.0 from 5.5. I personally don't feel we will benefit from the additional features at this present moment in time. -
We are using Veeam to backup our VM's to a QNAP box. Our last remaining 3 physical servers are backed up using BackupExec - these will be decommissioned and P2V over the summer holidays.

Backup solution for the virtualised world

Buy Veeam products: request price list, find reseller Our veeam support is up for renewal. I've recently been sent the above direct from veeam. -
This type of thing we use a start up script. Something along the lines of check if the file exists if not then copy else end.

Use IE and Chrome at work and Safari on my macs at home. Students and staff have the choice of chrome or IE at work.

I would think Cortana won't be available on the Education version - otherwise it will cause a bit of a distraction!

It features high up on our smooth wall lists to for the last 24 hours.

[sims] Uploading a child's school report (word file) into SIMS
Sylv3r replied to grahammm's topic in MIS Systems
It's easy to upload the documents to the students SIMS profile in the linked documents but I don't think it can be an automated process and will be a case of someone going to each student browsing for the file and uploading. I would over estimate at around 3 - 5 minutes per student per report. -
An apple caching server would also help your issue i think.

We are a secondary school and support 1 non-feeder primary school with 6 of our feeder primaries coming on board in the next couple of years. As a catholic school we've also good a couple of church halls and associated offices under our umbrella too. To be honest, I haven't been actively looking for business and in most circumstances they have approached me. We aren't charging a fortune but are comfortably covering our costs and we appear to be providing a more flexible approach then they were originally receiving so they appear to be happy too.

We moved to CAPITA direct rather than remain with the LA when we became an academy. But to be honest, we aren't saving any money and the decision was not a financial decision. I must point out it wasn't the LA at fault either - we just required support for our SLG system which the LA weren't able to provide for us.

I upgraded ours to that release last Friday and i've not seen any issues. We had a power cut yesterday and the school was closed, and the UPS didn't last for as long as the power was down - so this may have given it a reboot if it required one.

Accessing a shared calendar on Office 365 Outlook app on iPad
Sylv3r replied to Snakepottery01's topic in Cloud Services
Nope, we've been using Office365 for over 12 months and we've never managed to get multiple calendars from appearing in the app. From doing a bit of digging, it doesn't seem to be possible - but i'd like someone to point out I'm wrong ) -
I think exactly that. They will be checking the documentation you have is up-to-date, ensuring backup procedures are in place - are you regularly testing restores etc. Security policies - are you using encrypted devices, are your used forced to change passwords on a regular basis, do you have sufficient rules in place for complex passwords? Is your Hardware security marked? Software licences - is all the software on the network fully licensed etc? They may even run some tests on the network for speed, security (penetration testing) etc.

how much space do you allocate to the server system drive ?
Sylv3r replied to bicky's topic in How do you do....it?
Generally 80 - 100GB here. We've got one non-important server here which has been allocated 25GB which is fun and games! -
Smoothwall + Youtube (Ipads)
Sylv3r replied to mdking's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I'll test ours tomorrow. The comments defiantly aren't shown on our PC's via Chrome and IE. I must admit I haven't tested the iPads. Will let you know.
