[ipad] Help on installing apps to multiple iPads
Boon72 replied to Vellocet's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
there is an Apple tool called Apple configurator that can be used to setup iPads and restrict them etc but it is Mac only so far as far as i'm aware -
a school i had similar issue at, had a dedicated screen for them to see in the class.

when i set mine up we just had to make sure that the auto discovery had all the right info in it, once that was done i just joined from the email address

the imovie issue is because your using the network, create a folder in the root of the hard drive called imovie events and give permission to everyone read & write, this will then allow imovie to use the folder as a scratch area. do you use WGM to control the proxy? we do and dont have issues

Slow Login/Logout on AD/OD Network + Intermittent Login Errors..
Boon72 replied to martin_hannah's topic in Mac
we had this kind of issue with login and it's mostly to do with time, the Apples dont like to be out to much from the servers etc -
do you have a local CLC you could try?
-
if you plan to use iMovie you'll need to use a local folder as a local storage area, the easiest way is to create a a folder called 'iMovie Events' in the root folder with RW permissions for everyone, if you have ARD then use the copy function to pass it to all your machines (making sure you use the set ownership to - inherit & place in root folder)
-
you need to make sure the autodiscover is setup correctly too otherwise the add account won't work. in the advanced section of the add account i have the following https://my.server.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
-
i had this issue last year and the answer is to have a local 'iMovie Events' folder with permissions for everyone on each machine, this can be done through ARD as stated before.
-
i use Apple Remote Desktop to do most of the admin tasks like that.

one thing you need to make sure of is that the drivers are on both the server and the clients. @Donkeymusic - do you have it on the users or computers?
-
this isn't the case as i got server 10.5.4 on a Mac Mini that came with 10.6 (initially it didn't work) if i remember correctly i had to install 10.5.6 from dvd on it and then install server 10.5.4. if you therefore get your new iMac with an old dvd 10.5.6 and install that you should be able to then image it with your upgraded 10.5.8 images

-
we've gone down the redirected folders route with permissions / GPO's to lock things down for XP so when we start to look at 7 it should in theory be the same
-
are you looking to back up all the iMacs and the students work separately? integration into AD is done by binding the Macs to the domain. what is it your looking to do with the new Mac server?

i thought about getting a Mac like you in 2008, i bought a Mac Mini to connect up to my PC screen to try etc, i use Mac's now all the time and the PC is just for gaming, i've also convinced 3 of my sites to convert to Mac completely (Mac Pro server & iMac's) and they've sent me on 2 course's to complete my certification's (ACSP & ACTC) i have a MacBook for using between the 3 sites and ive also binned my PC at the office for a Mini. I still manage 2 windows sites and im currently moving over to server 2008 and windows 7 but i prefer Mac's now

School, select, or Open? Which licensing option do you use?
Boon72 replied to Rydra's topic in Licensing Questions
i've just got 1 of my schools sorted with 2 server 2008r2 licenses & cal's for under £500 (£55.06ps & £3.70pc) were also looking into a subscription for the licensing, a cost of £26 per unit was mentioned, but a quote is something that involves a final count up
