Have a bunch of supervised iPads across several schools and started getting complaints that staff can no longer connect iPads to computers(running Windows) to take images/videos off. Ipads were setup with allow connecting to another computer enabled and staff were able to take pictures and videos off. Have tried myself and confirmed this is no longer possible for them. The only change I can thing of is update from ios7 to 8. I have ensured the supervison mac is up to date, including updating configurator, the configuration profile and refreshing the profile installation on the ipads. Is there something that was brought into iOS8 to prevent connection to a computer or is there some part of my configuration that needs updating? Currently have to connect to the supervising mac to get images off which is less than ideal Any suggestions gratefully received!

Hi All, I'm hoping I can get some answers. I was thrown in the deep end a few years ago with configuring a meer 30 iPads for our academy. Since then it has grown to well over 300! I use Meraki MDM to deploy apps and Apple Configurator 2 to manage/supervise them. Recently during the summer holidays I updated around 200 iPads - all updated security settings and a few new restrictions. As I am aware there is an option to allow/disallow iPads connecting to non-host machines. As these iPads are used throughout the academy I have this box ticked so pupils and staff alike can plug into any of our machines and access photos/videos on the iPad they wish. Since updpating during the summer it now appears that when plugged into a PC, we get the error message "This iPad is supervised by another computer and cannot be used by this computer". We've never had this problem before (apart from years ago when first figuring out I had to tick the box to allow it) but suddenly it's became an issue. I thought at first it was because we have a mixture of models and iOS (9.3.5 > latest) but it seems to be across all versions and models. Am I missing something? Is there a different option that is conflicting? I have a number of restrictions set and disallowed system apps but not sure what could cause this suddenly. Help please! Stace

In my public school job I'm responsible for a cart of 30 shared iPad 4th generation and since we are a Google school and we don't have a MDM, I've deployed them manually using only Apple Configurator (no Apple School Manager.) Here are some roadblocks and problems I've run into which I could use some advice and/or help with: When a new app is requested for use in the iPads, first I duplicate the old Blueprint and put today's date on it (for version control), I add the app to the Blueprint in a specific location as preferred by the teacher, then I reapply the blueprint to the existing iPads. PROBLEM: Since the iPads are numbered via the blueprint sequentially (e.g.. Library iPad 1, Library iPad 2....Library iPad 30,) when the changed blueprint is re-applied the iPads renumber themselves (e.g.. Library iPad 31, Library iPad 32...Library iPad 60). What option did I overlook or accidently click which causes the iPads to rename themselves every time the blueprint is reapplied? PROBLEM: When reapplying the blueprints, I have to babysit the Mac Mini to be there to click a user prompt (e.g... "Do you want to replace the apps?") and there are other things which require my attention in the meantime. How can I automate or streamline this process? ROADBLOCK: Besides apps, we also use web clips for certain educational websites where no app exists, however as far as I can tell, there is no way to prearrange the location of these webclips on the homescreen, which then need to be manually arranged on each iPad afterwards. Is there another way I can do this? ROADBLOCK: Intermittently it seems like when applying the blueprint the entire operation would get stuck or hang and remain that way until either I click "cancel" or at worst unplug the cart from the Mac Mini. Sometimes it would get stuck at downloading apps and other times it would seemingly get stuck at assigning licenses. Has anybody else experienced this issue? I've tried checking in the Mac OS X Sierra's Console.app but I won't let me view logs created at an earlier point in time. PROBLEM: Is there a way to prevent students from changing the home screen layout? On Android tablets that my manager manages for kindergarten and first graders it seems like there is no way the students can accidently move the app icons as opposed to the iPads. What am I overlooking here? Any and all help would be appreciated it because it feels like there are important things which I am overlooking but can't figure out what, and that frustrates me.

Morning, Apologies if this question has been asked before I had a hunt through previous threads but could not find a related post. With a Mac Mini Server running Apple Configurator I have 60+ ipads that are currently supervised and running fine, the only issue I have run into so far is that when plugging the devices into a windows laptop I am unable to retrieve photos / videos on the devices. As you can imagine this is extremely frustrating for staff and students when wanting to quickly pull off the photo / video they have just made. I can understand the reasons for security to lock them in supervised mode but with the school only having the one mac osx device it will be difficult to have this accessible for a user to plug in and retrieve there media. I've played with the idea of setting up mapped drives to the mac server and trying to auto import photos using iPhoto to shared folders on the mac server but with the users trawling through hundreds of photos and the mac mini hard drives running out of space very quickly I can see this as a non starter. Any recommendations would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks Ash

Hey, Just a frustrating issue that I’m having which I’d like to collaborate on… We have over 120 iPads in school, the last batch were purchased about 3 years ago, and the others about 5-6 years ago. The iPads are now at the stage in the iOS life where they no longer update with Apple to the latest iOS version… however, because Apple forces all app vendors to keep their apps up to date with the latest iOS, when I updated all our iPad at Christmas, half the apps that we did have are no longer compatible with the version of iOS on the device. Will there come a time in the next 18 months where the only apps on the iPad are the default ones such as Safari…? The BIG thing at the moment is that I manage all the iPads with Apple Configurator 2, the iPads have the Supervised Blue Print, and I push the apps out (this works great), but the apps now won’t open as they require an Apple ID to be present on the iPad to load? And we don’t obviously want to put the credentials in manually. Has anyone else experienced this? Have you got around it? Or do we just surrender the Apple ID credentials? Thanks

Apologies if this question has already been asked elsewhere, but I'm hoping someone can offer some guidance on the following... We have x number of iPads that have been set up using Apple Configurator, that are 'supervised', and are used by multiple users (i.e. not on a one-to-one basis). My first question is whether it's possible to import MP3 (or similar) files into iTunes, without purchasing them online? We are particularly interested in files that have been created by students (not on the iPad), so hold no copyright. If so, can someone please explain to me how this is done? Since the devices are 'supervised' it doesn't appear to be possible to sync the devices with any PC/Mac running iTunes - so it would appear that we would need to employ an alternative method. My second question is whether it's possible to import MP3 (or similar) files into Garageband (or similar music Apps) using any method other than iTunes? I'm aware that we can access music from cloud based solutions such as Dropbox, iFiles, etc. or a WebDav server but it appears that to work with music files using Apps such as Garageband the music needs to be located within iTunes. I'm sure someone else must have the same predicament, so I'd appreciate any advice on how you got around this. Many thanks!

Hey all, I wounder if someone could point me in the right direction with this one. In our school we have loads of iPad 2's (we have around 150) which staff and students use, they all need wiping, supervising, name changing and putting back onto Cisco Meraki MDM ASAP. I was hoping to use apple school manager but this is now out of the question, long story. I have used apple configurator and tried to build a blue print as i wanted to install some apps, but not all of them will install as the iPad 2 OS is too old Is there a quicker way of doing this, or is it a manual process? Hope this somehow makes sense.
