  1. I'm doing it today, for a department, with Handbrake. It's one of those things that I could put on staff laptops and let them get on, but I will more reliably do it, on a powerful PC, and Handbrake makes it easy.
  2. Separate replaceable USB-C ports? Engineers have finally used their brains - having them on the mainboard is utter madness.
  3. Have you tried throwing an absolute wobbler at it? Really let it know how unreasonable it's being. Then try turning off the low-power states in the BIOS.
  4. I've seen this with some modern Lenovo and Dell machines. On those, it was fixed by a firmware update - it seems that Microsoft have managed to develop the shutdown command in Windows to a degree that the hardware actually has to be updated to bother listening to it.
  5. Any intentions to sell it to a corporate entity who'll completely ruin it?
  6. Here's my guide. https://welsheduit.wordpress.com/2020/10/08/office-2019-scripted-installation-ready-for-mdt/ There are other things you'll need in place for them to auto sign-in. These include settings in your Entra Connect Sync app and the Local Intranet trusted zone settings that are also used by M365 to sign in with a browser.
  7. We don't issue offsite devices to students below sixth form here, so had no need to enable to VPN for them (though it's possible in theory). Sixth form student laptops don't need it - they're set up with Entra.
  8. Alias, possibly a maiden name?
  9. Can you check their account in your email management to cross-check?
  10. Been on it this morning without issue.
  11. If I tried these, it wouldn't work. My environment does not allow C:\Users\Public to be accessible. I put it in Program Files (x86) where it belongs. We've covered some of your other points in the 'SecureClient - what a pain' thread. Updating can hang or fail due to proxy setting discrepancies. I have managed to disable all of the settings needed for it to launch - spell checking, text prediction, auto correction etc. All done with registry entries in GPP. 12. Machynlleth in Powys has a festival in early May. You get to travel to a truly beautful area and then laugh (depending on who you see!) A world away from Leicester for just over two hours journey. https://machcomedyfest.co.uk/
  13. Waits for Windows 10 ESU to get a fourth year as a result...
  14. That'll go well! Meanwhile I can use the TPC version we use for Wonde, for now...
  15. Hmm, mine still shows SIMS Connected on the home screen and Next Gen as a tile to add.
  16. Not available in the Tile Store?
  17. Latest Lenovos that I've done in the last five years are screwless screen replacement. Screen from Amazon, bosh. Thankfully not had to do an iPad yet - ours are in cases but that's no guarantee!
  18. Can you thin the core? Cut away small amounts of the strands with fine side cutters until it fits. It may pay to solder it in then, so a good pool in the receptacle of the pin. Fine blowtorch.
  19. Just note that you probably want to do peer-to-peer updating (caching), or come patch Tuesday your network traffic may go nasty.
  20. Is the time synced between them?
  21. Welsh Government/Hwb! *not suggesting dodginess*
  22. You'd think. There was a hell of a kick-off when this spec launched, and most schools in the county at that time didn't have hardware that would run the specified software (Premiere Pro!) They eventually softened to Premiere Rush and we all spent a chunk on updating our IT suites. Animate slipped into the workflow over time.
  23. They backtracked so fast their arseholes got frostbite. Good on them though, for listening.
  24. I'm on 6.9.15225.3956 - not an old version by any means. I see 7.0.0.16203 is out.
  25. The Net2 application likes to just silently quit sometimes. Usually when I need to do something quickly! the IPv4 issue is with the intercom units. If we don’t disable IPv4 on them, they will frequently crash and reboot. Learned about this from colleagues at other schools. i disable IPv4 in the intercom management software when I do an upgrade, then they work fine.
