HP Microserver Gen10 AMD X3421 - Samsung EVO 870
3s-gtech replied to cishandfhips's topic in Windows Server 2022
Why can't the drives be blank so you can use Storage Spaces? That should allow TRIM to work, which it may not do otherwise. -
It was disabled on our DCs when I took them on, back when we were running 2003. As MS guidance changed, I turned it on. Is it there as a legacy setting, or because the tech who set it up was also on legacy settings (seen that enough times - “oh we don’t run updates on the servers, for reliability”
-
Enable it on both, best just to follow that guidance. I don’t use IPv6 on anything else but it’s enabled on my DCs, all on 2022 now.
-
You can just download the latest ISO and put that into MDT. It supports Windows 11, but not new versions. Still works fine though. I do not miss FOG at all.

Free ones all seem to have gone. I think the reduction in printer use has hit the economics. We use https://www.zerowasterecycling.co.uk but there's a cost to each box.
-
Server 2022 didn't seem to be the issue. Couple of my DCs are on 2022 without issue. It's 2025 where you may have problems.
-
Yeah still got one, it runs our CCTV on a physically separate network. Incredible kit.

"Generate images of our school using the cast of 1970s Grange Hill, but gender-swap them all and make their eyes slightly too far apart" Sorted. Disclaimer: you may lose prospective students.
-
Hmmmm. Do we generate generic images for school media using AI generated students or at least their faces? Also deals with issues where a parent/student withdraws consent.
-
That's libel! Damn. Now we're all for it.
-
Because it's Bromcom - not only are their legal team on speed-dial, they're in a co-habitating relationship and bought a puppy together /parody /don'tsueme

Just make sure you inexplicably include them in the new procurement process or they'll sue the snot out of you.
-
You can pull them all out with Powershell, for use in MDT / imaging software. Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination C:\DRIVERS\

If the drop bolt for the second, non-maglocked gate can be opened while the gates are shut, you will be able to open them overcoming the lock. Found this by practical experience. We now have the drop bolt inhibited when the gates are closed.

I think it's only on non-compliant devices here where I put it on manually with MDT (and running fine, but they have 8GB of RAM and will be retired this year). 11 seems to be very memory flexible - it'll run from 4GB up but it does love to hoover up any available memory for important tasks.

Ah, seem to have found where the issue lies. After a few restarts, if I leave the Group Policy which installs SecureClient attached to the clients (with msiexec /i), it actually removes the software and refuses to put it back. So, I robocopy the contents across and basically say no, don't do that. Qualität.

It's taken an age because the host is slooooow, but I have it working on a fresh 25H2 built VM. That means there's something else interacting. I'm going to try a new command line install with no existing folder on clients. Thanks for the confirmations!
-
I've spun up a 25H2 VM clean install with the latest install MSI, which I can then test with one of our exam users which has the lockdowns set in GP.
-
Yes. No SecureClient folder present.
-
That’s how I read it. Something has expired in the compiled program and our 25H2 setup is saying nope. Then stopping the DB from being created, which then throws the SQL error. This is on latest and previous versions. Shoddy.
-
I'm not going to gain much with testing on 24H2, but I may have to tomorrow. No point in deploying it though even if that fixed it - the clients would re-update before the exam.
-
The board say they've tested it with 25H2. In the logs I get this, no idea if it's relevant: <event> <type>Critical</type> <time>16:13:13 Thu 23 Apr 2026</time> <text>Error occurred: {{Ok Harpy.v1.eagle {i1: [EMBEDDED] Plugin "Licensing.Core" context extra features are now <null> via TRUSTED configuration resource "Harpy.v1.eagle" with a change count of 0. }} {Error {C:\Program Files (x86)\SecureClient\SecureClient_WJEC\lib\Harpy1.0\Configurations\Harpy.v1.eeagle} {not valid after 2026-01-19T00:00:00.0000000Z}}} {} MethodName:RunCommand, ClassName:SecureClientCore\data\DatabaseMigrationCommon.cs LineNumber:108</text> </event>

Tried a manual reinstall of the MSI, same thing. Runs the updater, then complains about SQL in an Edge window. This is on 25H2. How are you deploying it?
-
Another year, and our install of SecureClient has metaphorically shat its pants, then eaten that, been sick, and rolled around in the faecal/vomit mix. Currently it won't run from a fresh deployment (that did work earlier in the year) coming up with an issue with SQLite. Board are saying we need to install SQL Server Compact Edition which I have never had to do - I'm wondering if they cocked up the compilation and left it out somehow.
