  1. Simply I would also say yes as this will future proof your network and from experience it’s harder to get funding for the stuff they don’t see like the infra structure etc
  2. Just check that your network isn’t blocking smb1. We moved away from scan to folder promoting scan to email. If you have paper cut mf I recommend configuring scan to cloud.
  3. If you not managed to work it out already. I have this setup on one of my schools. I admit when setting it up Konica back gui is not intuitive by any means and took me a while. I will put together a little crib sheet for you when I can this week. What’s devices do you have out of curiosity. Km support line is generally just poor. I limit all correspondence to their e commerce website. There is no point talking to them I get more sense out of my 2 year old. Generally the engineer support is ok. Most issues get resolved in a single visit. I’ve had a few spats with them over wearing parts which must be pain to install but all in all I’ve had worse experiences from other providers
  4. I work in a number of schools, and I have first hand experience practically with most managed service print solution. I have had experience with Konica and canon and agree with your opinion over Konica but I find this just normal in comparison across all vendors. having worked or currently working with sharp, canon, Konica, ricoh, xerox they all have some bad qualities most related to the sector issues they currently face. Eg chip shortage which we will have to believe is still true and not just a excuse. Out of all in my opinion sharp and canon were or are the worse vendors I have dealt with in terms of reliability, after support, account management etc tbh account management across the all of them is a notable problem. They tend to be the cheapest solution also canon and sharp had several issues with supply delivery and sharp specifically always seemed to have more reliability issues with engineers not being able to fix the more difficult problems in a timely manner. Rating 4/10 at a stretch Konica generally good. I briefly had issues with supply during last year chip shortage but this seems to be ok now. Engineers generally tend to be knowledgeable and fix even the more difficult problems within an acceptable time frame. rating 7/10 Ricoh generally good technical service , reliable and good engineers who are able to fix the more difficult issues in an acceptable timeframe. Their onboarding was a nightmare though. They lied to the customer and ended up not been able to fulfil the whole solutions for 8 months after the expected delivery date. The school was left with only two printers in that time. No alternative solution temporary workaround offered they had to lump it. Rating 7/10
  5. I did a count down to Xmas wallpaper one year. Linked a wallpaper in user policy of group policy in a network share called background.jpg I had also in the network share about 15 (excluding weekend and dates they weren’t in. different wallpapers called background%date%jpg eg background01, background02.jpg etc etc On the server had a daily task script that would copy \\server\share\archive\background%date%.jpg to \\server\Share\background.jpg /Y (to overwrite) It worked well and became adapted to a number of events they wanted to advertise a count down for.
  6. I’ll try this out thanks for the feedback and will let you know next time I’m on-site
  7. Interesting ok yeah one drive is her home drive and makes sense as we only recently switched them over to one drive, so timing fits. Update ess haven’t been much help the call is still open and I will get a response once every couple days with some rubbish. Can you detail a bit more what you mean by disable office managing the doc sync?
  8. Just replace all 4 on mine this weekend. Im very much a bargain finder and never get cheap or used tyres. But will find the best tyre without breaking the bank I bought 4 hankook prime 205/16. Very good in the wet and cost me £320 at kiwi fit with a 10% discount on the tyre.
  9. Couple annoying issues which may be a office GPO setting but if it is its not obvious On all of our workstations the sims manager open an individual report template in word. the ADDIN tab loads but i am not able to input a RESULT tag. I am expecting a window to open after a small delay, but the window never appears. if i repeat this on my computer as a administrator the result windows appears, i can insert the desired tag however i am not able to save , which nicely introiduces my second issue The sims manager can add generic tags like name, surname and reg so when she edit the template and come to save it wont save as it is read only, therefore will revert changes made to the template. Thanks in Advance
  10. Following this thread. Just taken on a school that has R32000 and I am due to update their computers to 21h2
  11. The problem I am finding moving schools away are they have years and years of “this is how we have always done it” and they are scared of change. Tbh I get it, why would they want to change their is no incentive for them to change. Cos let’s face it it does not affect them in the slightest if they don’t move. They just expect it to work in practice like it always has for several years. The users need to feel the heavy impact before they can cast their vote to change vendor. If sims is such an issue for you now I would seriously consider seeking an alternative rather than bringing it back on prem. we don’t move back we have to move forward and unfortunately for those who wish to stay with sims we have to follow the roadmap of ess and although that the ceasing support of on prem sims is not on the foreseeable roadmap it’s only going to be a matter of time where ess will cease support and you will have to make the choice to go back again or choose to change. If you do proceed bringing it back on prem just check 2016 sp3 is supported now on the current road map. Long story short I upgraded myself out of support on my last call earlier this year preempting ess saying we weren’t upto date. Thankfully they were logical about it and continued to support me but they warned me that future tickets may be not supported. Good luck
  12. Unfortunately these Lenovos don’t offer a system halt code(like the hps), access ro to the bios (like the dell) or it doesn’t work with the serial number.
  13. Yea this is how I managed to back door in to all the other models. Unfortunately this isn’t available for the Lenovos
  14. Thanks yes that address I recognise and realised that my address I sent to auto responded saying it had forwarded onto that address. And that someone will respond in 3 days but 6 weeks on forwarding the same email each week and no response
  15. Looking for assistance, recently taken over a school that was gifted a number of DFE Laptops Lenovo 81m8 2nd Gen. Unfortunately the previous ICT never reset the BIOS Passwords on the devices when the scheme came to an end and now I have 45devices that are no better than paperweights. I have all the Paperwork detailing our ownership of the devices and their serial numbers but nothing detailing the BIOS passwords. I have tried emailing [email protected] that i have found on the internet to recover the documented bios passwords but i imagine this email is no longer monitored as 6weeks since my first email and still no response. Tried resetting BIOS by unplugging CMOS Battery but not had much luck Has anyone got other contacts, examples of DFE BIOS Passwords they were given. Lenovo forum is not much help having copied this post in their chat. Was hoping Lenovo would give me a magic assist in making these devices usable again. All documentation can be provided on request proving ownership of the devices Thanks in Advance
  16. Watching with interest, I have a school who uses fms and no reports as of yet, however this maybe they haven’t done a run of orders or what ever they call it
  17. Any third party apps? Eg papercut is a common one on print server which can do some processing out of hour. Database backup etc
  18. As what RLR says. If you haven’t got this check you are a full administrator of the admin console If you have been delegated admin by someone else check they given correct permissions
  19. Aw man I feel for you. That sucks. In this situation then is I would go about create a bootable usb to your sccm/mdt environment.
  20. I agree however like in most school scrap that all schools you have senior management with their own agenda. Last school I completely managed the shut down. Student machine were turned off at 3:30, and then staff and students were again shutdown 30 mins typically about 6pm before site team locked the school up. This was communicated as a get off site now before your locked in. Computers would then be turned on by the user when it is required the next day. However the school I’m currently managing has a fleet of about 200 hp that carry the symptoms of delayed post on cold or warm start by averaging about two minutes. This was down to a bios update that can’t be reversed aparently. (Interested on anyone else’s experience views here). In this circumstance I have opted for sleep after so long inactivity which carries its own issues but best work around until we can replace the hps Tia
  21. +1 removing shutdown from the start menu. Also remove the option from the Cad screen where task manager and change password would be. This is also a group policy
  22. Couple things to check. I had to check the site as I also had trouble with these. I have loads geobook 1e and I am sure it is these that you can only pxe boot off a specific port. (the left) Also there are two versions of the 1e one which supports pxe and the other doesn’t. Fortunately we have all the ones which do support pxe however found some usb adapters don’t work. I have an anker usb3 Nic and that works. An added note if you are using sccm to deploy to make sure you add the MAC address of the usb nic to the conflict exception list Source https://geo-computers.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360016131057-GeoBook-1E-PXE-Boot
  23. We had an instance where a student managed to shut down a lot of the computers because a staff member left themselves logged in and unlocked to a classroom management software that supported shutdown feature
  24. I second aovpn. Normally zero/low cost to setup. If you haven’t got a lot of domain joined laptops to give to staff You can always use session host rdp for staff and students with personal laptops Practically all of schools have both setup
