Group policy drive maps has a label that you can do just that Edit is this domain joined pc. Windows or Mac?

I also managed to get it to work by whitelisting in smoothwall but just check that the whitelist you added to is included in authetication exception policies. and also app locker was preventing the user from running so also included allow publisher rule. Thanks to all posts in this thread which helped me.

Not sure about the rest of you but since print nightmare we have experience inconsistent behaviour from printers where type 3 drivers don’t get mapped unless you remove the patch that is there to combat the vulnerability or upgrade to type 4. Rock and a hard place dilemma At the moment my understanding is that Microsoft recommend using type 4 drivers which is all well and good if the mfd vendor support type 4 drivers. We have a fleet of sharp printer where the only type 4 driver I can find is the UD. This restores basic functionality but comes with its own gremlins. The UD only seems to provide the most basic printing and I am receiving a lot of pressure to restore the driver despite my explanation that it is a critical security update. What’s everyone else’s opinions

recent issue we have come across whilst deploying the SIMS Spring update via solus. Normally when you deploy a patch or upgrade it redirects you to the deployment history where it gives you more detailed progress of the update. This time round it didnt Solus just sat on the deployment history screen but showed nothing. Done the usual rounds, Restart, Reinstall, etc but it hasnt resolved it Sims support suggested ensuring permissions on the files that reside in programdata\solus3 and Programdata\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA were set correctly Tried and hasnt resolved the issue. Anyone had similar issue TIA

After 9 Months of investigating this problem with ESS (off and on) it would seem we have come to a resolution and thought i would post our findings for anyone who comes across similar issue We ended up reinstalling SIMS in a lab environment as Hardware was the focus. It was only as we were creating the new connect.ini we noticed a line that had been entered into the connect.ini SIMSConnection ServerName=Server\SIMS2016 DatabaseName=sims CommandTimeout=10000 Reports MaxNumberOfTableJoins=1 it was this last line in the connect.ini that caused reports to run for 40 minutes. after removing this line the same report took 22 seconds to run Does anyone know what this line may have been used for as i assume it was a fix for something Thanks

FYI ESS do not support sims on SQL 2016 sp3. Latest they support is SP2. i found this out as i had an active ticket with capita and during this ticket my database was on SP2. when i realised that sp3 was available i thought i would update it and save myself the hassle of them coming back to me saying update the server So happened that i updated my server out of support. Fortunately my support ticket was at a third tier support and was logical enough to come to the conclusion that the issue i was having was not because of SP3 given he knew i was having the issues on SP2 and continued to help me but warned me that future tickets may be unsupported due to this. I was shocked that it wasnt supported and asked why but the reason seems unknown. could be an oversight on the documentation or there could be an issue with it but unknown at the time. im waiting further feedback on this as i may need to roll back the SP

Want to gather your thoughts experience on Uniflow. anyone use Canon copiers with Uniflow. A school has enquired and personally i have been papercut through and through. Never considered switching because well Papercut is everything a school needs. however the person making the noise is attracted by the renewal price not to have papercut installed. TIA

Supported a school whose electric in one building supplied 250v and as a result the UPS dealt with it but at the cost of its life span. It killed two ups in 2 years. I produced ups logs showing the over voltage and how the ups was behaving. Hope this helps

Ok this is what i found as i too have now come across flawed delprof2 script originally using /d:30 with ntuser.dat and yes found no profiles were being deleted because regardless windows 10 updates this files regularly therefore never gettiung old enough to delete modified script /d:30 /ntuserini and found this deletes the profiles 30days from creation. looking at its properties ntuser.ini has the same mod date as created date for all profiles therefore regardless of the user logging in if the profile is older than 30days from creation it will be removed So i tried to find a way of changing the ntuser.ini modify date and the only way around i have found is to echo some text >>%userprofile%\ntuser.ini during a log off or logon script. Bit messy but works ok. looking for people input. is there a more efficient way i tested the group policy option but found this to also not work Thanks

School I worked at must be nearing 10 years ago we invested in Vericool for our cashless system linked with biometric and parent pay and personally never had trouble with them. Fast friendly support! I left the school 3 years ago so can’t testify to their support efficiency now but I know fact today they still use Vericool and still have the original tills which a few years before the end of my tenure I was actively arguing for funding to upgrade them as they were creaking then and noticeable beginning to require more and more support. And if I’m going to say anything negative their hardware is expensive which is mostly the reason the school not upgrading. as time goes on those tills creak more and more but seems to be like tanks. But credit where credit is due if the tills lasts 10 years nearly as theirs have done. economical value is not that expensive. In comparison to other catering companies who have been rightfully shredded in this post Vericool stand very much polar apart from these others and based on my experience then would highly recommend.

We began playing and using in tune as part of MS endpoint management. Initial assessment is good. Takes a little to get your head around but once you done different tasks a few times it practically runs itself. Personally I like it as a good alternative to Meraki having used that for many years prior

Interesting read. Since my last post we have been back and to with capita. We have determined that there is no infrastructure /server fault and from this put it back in capita /Ess court to determine as I said we have only begun see degradation within sims from September last year which ties in with the autumn update. We too use classcharts but couldn’t say for certain whether we write back to sims. It’s something I’m going to have to check with the sims manager. Interestly though one of the first things I did at the beginning of all this was disable all the extractor that was pulling data out of sims and it didn’t make any difference. Now I never realised that CC writes back to sims so this is something I will look to pursue next time I’m on site Please any one else having the problems i will be interested in your views

Database is 17gb Log file has been shrunk Raid not too sure but never considered the host as a factor as there are no sign of performance degradation anywhere else on the network or server for that matter. Factored HV out As this has only really begun to happen this acedemic year with nothing having being done to the hyper visor. And the hardware spec of all hv environments I tested this on are somewhat similar

Trying to diagnose generally slow performance whilst running some reports (focus | run reports). Sims is installed on Hyperv Vm with 4 logical processors, 36gb ram (using capita recommended algorithm based on database size) Sims is installed on full sql 2016 installation fully patched. The database is in 2012 compatibility mode as recommended by capita. We have a number of reports that take 40 mins to hour to run. The problems has only existed since summer 2021 and made no difference upgrading to autumn 2021. Before summer 2021 the report took no longer than 20seconds. Since, we have been back and too with capita, uploading data and they respond nothing wrong with the data must be environment. I can also confirm it is likely environment and more so maybe Sql configuration but when asking for further assistance/advice they no longer seem willing to be as helpful. Further tests carried out - Ran report as preview on the sims server and still takes just as long eliminating topology infrastructure - Ran report on a non domain joined computer logged on as administrator eliminating group policy - exported the report template and imported it in to two other sims environments that I have access too and the reports open within 10 seconds - all sites are hyper v and the vm on the other sites are equally matched in resources. Few differences between sql version but all 2016 and one site vm os and sql is 2012 28gb ram, the other site was running sims on 2016 (sql and os) with 10gb ram with similar sized databases on both - all capita performance patches installed - log file shrunk - archived attendance marks to last two years - validate memberships - database diagnostics ran Any help from a sql or server side as I must be missing something Thanks

Never had any issue updating but did have to go to all the exam boards for keys again

I made a really dirty workaround for sims update over aovpn. As we found aovpn didn’t allow the update from solus 3 by updating our sims database queuing every teacher to complain sims isn’t working whilst wfh. I created a robocopy script of a working directory that sync the changes only made to c:\prog x86\sims .net Reason I didn’t overwrite the whole directory was because I found you didn’t have too and it took ages to do. Tbf it took ages to sync the changed files but a lot less than doing the whole folder. Like I said it was dirty but it worked

Has the users in question some how really long or has a hyphen in it? ( or any other obscure characters) Can’t remember what version it was but papercut had a flaw whereby a user eg 21bloggsa could authenticate using 21blôggsa or 21bloggsà as separate papercut accounts. Whilst seems harmless we had auto credit assignment and the ability enabled to transfer funds between accounts. The lovely darlings worked out they could transfer initial credit from several accounts with special characters in to their own real account. I only come to realise this when my licenses exceeded their maximum and papercut entered its grace period have 4x as many licensed account than I was licensed for.

Aovpn, here too. Works goods but only problems we do have is solid 3 updates eg workstation patches and major releases @3gtech do you have this problem at all.

I recall this symptom presenting after our 3rd liners reported having upgrading all on-site and hybrid exchanges for a severe vulnerability number of months ago. It all depends on the copier but settings for TLS communications was need to be set. However Not all copier vendors worked and I had several calls open with different vendors and managed service providers because We couldn’t use port 25 anymore we had to setup a dedicated smtp relay as a workaround for the vendors who never responded positively to the vulneribility. Edit I’m sure also we had to do something with o365 connectors but thinking that may have been on sites where we had to implement an smtp relay as a workaround

Bit of a first world issue this but looking for any help A user has PsF accounting with the report browser and document emailer installed on her windows 10 machine and her old windows 7 machine when the user opens the report browser on the windows 7 machine it opens a report automatically however on windows 10 machine it doesnt load the default report. I can manually browse to the report and load it without issue, however for ease the user would like it to load the report on opening the report browser. PSFin32.ini which is stored in the user roaming appdata is present on both computers and has been copied over from her windows 7 machine. It has this snippet of code in it. [External Menu] Menu Text=&Processing Menu Item 1 Module =C:\Program Files (x86)\PS Financials\Reporting Services Browser\ReportBrowser.exe Menu Item 1 Parameters= /server http://***FinServer***/reportServer /report "/PSF Live Reports/Reporting Suite/ReportHome" /hidereport Menu Item 1 Text = View Reports I have tried to remove the switch /hidereport to no success What am i missing? Thanks in advance
