"Normal way of working" means that the student uses them under accessibility arrangments because of issues that means the expected way of working doesn't work for them. This is something that should be co-ordinated by SEN. For example, if your entire school was in a 1 to 1 situation, that wouldn't mean every single student could use them in exams, it would mean those students given exception to use a device when you wouldn't use one. For example, you could do a lesson that is expected to be written, but those who have accessibility arrangments would still be able to use a laptop to create their work. They could have dyslexia, atrocious handwriting, sight problems, tourettes, ASD, ADHD etc. If a student refuses to use one, or rejects the opportunity - it isn't their normal way of working so shouldn't get discompensation for it in an exam. Also, normal way of working should also apply to the type of device. If they use an iPad day to day in their classes, they should have the opportunity to use an iPad in exams. If they use a Chromebook day to day, they should be able to use a Chromebook etc. etc. etc.

These the Windows 100e Gen 2? The Lenovo x00e series were originally designed with ChromeOS in mind and were then released with Windows after that, so I would assume they have a driver stack available from that in Flex. If there is money for Macs, there is money and time for training. That isn't what is happening though. So by that reasoning I'm guessing we should just leave teachers who are teaching Visual Basic to it? Imagine changing music teachers every two years, and having to swap between Microsoft Windows with Pro Tools and Mac with Logic Pro every 24 months based on the whim of the teacher. Swapping out SMART and Promethean at will and having a mix between them both. What a complete and utter disaster of a strategy that would be.

You're still ignoring the "industry standard" point. After all, if you have a child who wants to become a Formula One racer, you don't stick them straight in an F1 car, you start them in a go-kart.

Logic is not the industry standard DAW by any stretch of the imagination. If you want to use that argument then you would teach them Pro Tools. Industry standard is a weak and lazy excuse pushed by teachers who ironically aren't willing to learn. All that does is enforce monopolies and denies innovation. We teach transferrable skills, we don't teach particular software. If we are there to teach the "industry standards" then we should be being paid by the software companies and/or the industry to become training centres, not pay for the privilege. There is no reason you shouldn't use FLStudio, BandLab, SoundTrap, Audacity, Garageband, Ableton, Reaper - and certainly not the "industry standards" myth.

Hope you've got people in your line for this who can see the benefits of an MDM. I once had a business manager and headteacher that refused to pay £5 per year per device for an MDM and left me in a massive hole when it came to managing anything. But yes, MDM is your path on this.

We've had this discussion before. The problem is that every MIS's feature set is different to the point where it becomes difficult to directly compare them. For example both Arbor and Bromcom have tools available directly in them that are only available as third-party tools. There are comms tools in all three, but they all act slightly differently. I'm sure somewhere in this thread someone attempted a matrix though. I like Arbor's interface but I prefer Bromcom's look. I wish Arbor had some other colour options in it. Not sure a lot of brown is my thing. It's why I've never been a huge Ubuntu guy!

That is plentiful, security wise. Like everything the security should be there, but it shouldn't get in the way of the functionality and usage. I honestly can't see what more you should be expected to do.

I've downloaded their specs, and they're terrible. You need a better provider - frankly.

Which provider? Lots of people do online ECDL tests...
