YouTube Restricted Mode should filter out all targeted and non-appropriate advertising. It's basically YouTube Kids on the main YT interface. Did they flag the ad?

To be fair, it isn't all rap, and what rap there is, is very accessible stuff. It's designed for the theatre crowd after all. What can I say? I'm fickle.

It's not colour-blind casting. It's specifically intentionally cast with the leads being played by black and minority actors, as it's supposed to be comparing the immigrants of the America then, with the immigrants of America now. How successful they are with that is up for debate, but that's the intention. There are several white cast members in the ensemble too, and of course King George Anthony Ramos is also Hispanic. Couple over the weekend Hamilton - Really excellent musical. Well written songs and well acted. Absolutely loved it. Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood - Very good. Very good indeed. I won't spoil it, but by the end the title makes complete sense and is quite the gut punch, especially if you're aware of the history of what happened in August 1969.

We've got Gmail working with Bromcom. I didn't configure it as it was before I took the role on, but anything we send through Bromcom relays through G Suite.

They're one and the same thing. 🤦 60fps is better because it's smoother, has less flicker, reduced tearing. If you're connecting a tablet to your screen, chances are it's for entertainment purposes anyway, so 30fps would absolutely suffice for this particular device. It's not designed as a daily driver to run a screen all day. Anyway, I won't be using it with an external monitor, so it's a moot point. 👍

G Suite will hit a limit, as it's not designed for public hosting of videos. I don't know what that limit is, but we've hit it a few times. We've fallen back onto unlisted YT videos.

There seems to be a small but vocal group of people who are angry that the entire education sector wasn't furloughed on 80% wages. The same people who would've been incredibly vocal that those people who were then not allowed to work because they were furloughed, weren't working to get their kids educated when schools closed. The same people are probably very angry that some businesses have been asking people to work even though they were put on furlough. You have to laugh at their complete inability to understand these things, to the point where it's kind of sad for them. I'd have taken furlough over the last few months, if it would shut them up, but it wouldn't.

Yeah for the kids, but my experience wasn't that it was the kids who abused the printing.

My major criticism will always be that we didn't lock down sooner, and we didn't lock down harder. It was always going to be easier to do that, and then unlock where we could, rather than how it's happened. It's helped drag this all out even further. We closed down too slowly because of the economy, and seem to be opening wrecklessly because of the economy. It worked so well in New Zealand, you'd think it'd be an obvious move for another island nation to do the same. Then of course, you've got certain people who have repeatedly ignored lockdown and got away with it, or those who got caught and got excused rather than disciplined. So then since late May there has been this "Well if they can do it, so can I" attitude. Trying to get people to wear masks, or behave when going out at the moment is nigh on impossible. Especially when there are people who are asking us to abide by these rules who themselves, or their family members are completely ignoring. Anyone looking for a Covid safe villa in Greece when this is all over, by the way?

Looks like your firewall/filtering is doing whatever it wants. Make sure all the hostnames provided are fully whitelisted, including excluding them from SSL Inspection.

Just try power washing a couple of the slower ones and see if that helps at all. Not saying it will, but it'll give you an idea of whether there is still a network issue or whether it's device based.

And it's the same answer: Your school should have a data retention policy that will define exactly how long you should keep them for. There isn't a set default answer, you have to make decisions for your own school and define what your policies are. Data retention is at the centre of GDPR that you'll only process the data for as long as is absolutely needed. If your school doesn't have a policy, then they're not GDPR complaint and they need to pull their finger out and put one in place before it becomes an issue.

You (The UK Govt) gave children a 4G connection on their laptop and didn't expect them to use things like video on the paltry data allowance? Video that your own "National Academy" website uses liberally?

The problem isn't email retention. The problem is people using it as a big filing cabinet for random attached documents. This is what you need to cut out. There is a reasonable expectation for people to use tools correctly, including putting those files into safeguarding platforms and their MIS tools. That's what they're for.

Does your school have a data retention policy? You should follow that. You should definitely have one in the world of GDPR. It's that policy that defines what your processing terms are to parents/students etc. If you don't, you need to press home the need urgently. It's not your job as a techy to do this stuff either, it's an SLT level thing. The IRMS Schools Toolkit is a good place to start, and a place most schools go to.

The only thing I like about interactive panels is they come with thick glass screens, rather than unprotected screens that are easily damaged. But yes, the interactive side is a gimmick, especially if I can connect a HDMI or wirelessly send an image to it and put that interactivity in the teacher's device itself.

I'm getting more excited for mine now. Hopefully with me by the end of the week. My USI pen will be with me tomorrow too, so that's every device except my daily desktop (that I only really use for work remotely due to the current circumstances) penned up and ready to go!
