  1. I have been asking them to make it possible for all meetings in Education to automatically save a recording to Vault. It doesn't need to be user accessible (keep that in the paid version if you like) but it would be nice to have a recording, even relatively low resolution, to save to vault automatically for Edu as a safeguarding protection tool. It would be a useful feature. Though I do understand the server processing time would make it costly for them to do that.
  2. I used to set it to 5 minutes. Policy was: Anything that was static on the board that needs to be there for a longer period of time should be displayed using your display device's freeze function. Videos should be displayed in fullscreen, which would stop the screen locking. That, or move your mouse.
  3. I believe the Greeks called this ignoratio elenchi. How much would you like to pay? How much did you used to pay for hosted email before Microsoft 365 and G Suite came along and gave you it for free? How much do you spend on unnecessary printing each day? How much do you pay for software and platforms people insist they need, but never use? If you can't find the money for a service you want, then find services you have but don't need and divert the cost.
  4. Hahaha! 😂😂😂
  5. Really? OK so let's have a look at the advertised pricing and compare it with Microsoft 365 A3, which is the comparable product from Microsoft that would allow you to have the recording and streaming features. Let alone the unlimited originality reports, smart search, the Windows device management you also get for the price. So, Let's say 150 staff and 1500 kids, and let's license it side-wide. Google - £1.75 per faculty member per month for full site licensing. £0 per student per month. £3,150 a year When the price increases to £3.50 after the offer ends (which I believe is 3 years from when you sign up) £6,300 a year Microsoft - £2.85 per faculty member per month. £2.20 per student per month. £42,750 a year Zoom - Doesn't advertise it's Education costs online, so that bodes well. However let's use their SME costs. £15.99 a month per host £28,782 a year So, do I wanna save £22,482 or do I wanna save £36,450 a year. Hmm. Or do I wanna save £67,446 or do I wanna save £109,350 over three years. Hmm. 🤔
  6. Bluetooth 5 is 2Mbps at its most perfect, so in theory it COULD do video, but I wouldn't wanna risk it! I don't think anyone has even attempted to create a bluetooth webcam yet. Perhaps with future versions of BT we might see it happen.
  7. They do, but if you're looking at alternatives to iPad that should inform the decision about the alternatives that you're going to use. Though ultimately, if people are happy and comfortable with iPad, then I wouldn't necessarily rock the boat for the sake of it.
  8. Do you use Microsoft 365 or G Suite for Education? If you use either of those than I'd look at Surface (or other manufacturer's equivalents) or Chromebook Tablets/2 in 1 devices as an alternative. If you're not, then I'd possibly stick with iPad. The newest Education models also work with the 1st gen Apple Pencil (I assume 2nd Gen support will come as they update them)
  9. £3.50 per faculty member per month for individual pricing. £1.75 per user per month for all faculty staff as an introductory price till the end of the year for site wide licensing. Students will get the Enterprise features avaialble to them for free if you do site-wide. I think that introductory price is held for 3 years too, but don't quote me on that.
  10. In Q3 or Q4. It always was a paid enterprise feature. It was released for free during the Covid crisis, and is returning to the paid version on 1st October.
  11. We look likely to be headed towards Securly as we start looking more at 1 to 1 initiatives.
  12. Zoom does it, Microsoft does it. Google have announced it's coming to Meet in Q3. In fact, the event tomorrow is going to make the features and where they lie between free and Enterprise clearer. EduGeek.net - Google Meet Roadmap Webinar - 15th July at 12:30pm
  13. Everything working now as expected then? Sounds like you had three or four problems that all compounded each other!
  14. Whenever I've logged a new machine in as a test user, it only ever has the pinned apps we've assigned. I'm assuming if you don't pin any apps, the defaults then appear.
  15. SIPS Education - http://www.sips.co.uk is another one. Telephone support, remote access, on-site can be included too.
  16. If you set an app to pin to the shelf, then I've found usually that any default applications usually disappear as part of that.
  17. Really gobsmacked by this. Grant was great. Loved him on Mythbusters and White Rabbit Project, and he seemed such a nice person. So sad.
  18. Do you have Smoothwall filtering? http://www.edugeek.net/forums/smoothwall-direct-support/215649-gov-uk-chrome.html
  19. Don't disagree with that. Depends on the feedback Google are getting, I suppose. But anyway, September 1st everyone will be back and we won't need to use Meet with such ferocity anymore. Right? Right? Eh?
  20. This is more of a case of Google giving you a feature that the majority have been asking for now, and will put a fuller solution in place later.
  21. Are you using File Stream or Backup and Sync? As far as I'm aware, File Stream would only download a file to your PC as you're using it...
  22. Classflow and Jamboard are your options. At some point, Promethean are going to have to find some courage and ditch ActiveInspire, so it's better to start moving them now (even if they hate it)
  23. Kinda. Google School Directory Sync will pull the users from your MIS into G Suite. It won't do the auto creation of AD users. Google Cloud Directory Sync will pull the users from your AD into G Suite. It won't sync from your MIS to AD. G Suite Password Sync will sync the users passwords from your AD into G Suite. You'll need to do the manual move of year groups with GCDS and GSPS. There isn't a free tool on the market that will sync from MIS to AD, then AD to G Suite that I'm aware of. I'm sure theres a SIMS to AD tool out there somewhere though! Anyone got any ideas?

  25. MS 365 has a habit of going "Oh you've added that domain? MINE NOW." I migrated a school domain over to G Suite from a shared Sharepoint/365 tenancy, and even though all the MX records were set correctly, Office held on and treated our domain as internal, so anyone who was still on the old shared tenancy couldn't contact us. Couldn't you do single sign on between MS 365 and G Suite?
