Hi all, Just a few questions for those of you that have chosen Teams Phones / Google Voice as your telephony systems going forward: 1. Can these systems report a centralised number for their outgoing calls? We wouldn't want a parent getting the direct line number for a staff member calling them, for example. 2. How do you handle shared numbers? For example, we have department phones rather than phones per user and would want to keep those. 3. How do schools running GV in particular handle internal calling on handsets? I assume there are no internal extension numbers, so do people have to dial the entire number to call each other? Our telephone contract is a bit of a distance out yet, but with Google announcing that European calls are now included in the Voice License we've got one eye on integrating telephony with our existing services - as long as they do everything we want them to (in particular, reporting the central school number when a staff member makes an external call)

I absolutely agree that you should have all the desktops, projectors etc set to automatically switch off or automatically switch off if no signal. However, not your infrastructure. That's just asking for trouble on so many levels.

Whoever took time to get back to you, I think it's clear ESS's decision to try and force a three year contract has backfired a little (a lot) on them, as the major alternatives have clearly been pushed to support the numbers that have suddenly landed on their doorsteps. No doubt they're all recruiting as we speak to support the large numbers of customers heading their way!

We're getting an interesting behaviour when clicking YouTube links from inside Office Documents when using Office. It's taking people to a "Your browser is up to date" page rather than to the video. If you upload the documents into Google Drive then open them in Docs/Sheets/Slides the links work as expected. Anyone else seeing this?

No they meant a single physical server with either 2 x 8 core processors or 1 x 16 core processor in it. As I've said many times before, most of Microsoft's staff don't understand how their licensing works, its not unreasonable that everyone else has trouble too.

Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles have an offline mode which should keep it working for a while without calling home. It'll need to see the internet connection first to set this up. We dropped the OMRs 10 years ago and went with staff directly into the MIS. Then it was SIMS. New job its Bromcom and will be Bromcom for our primary moving forward. They currently do them in Google Sheets and then the office staff fill in SIMS for them... but obviously when we move to Bromcom that will change.

We currently run a departmental model of hardware, so our backgrounds match this. Each department has a background that is a photo of their area of school in some way. This will change when we eventually move to a one to one model.

Doesn't Microsoft Forms report back who the owner of the form is? Google Forms will say at the bottom "This form was created inside XXXXXXX" I'd expect Microsoft Forms to do the same, because I have zero reason to trust that form as it stands. This feels, off...

Well if you have 1000 concurrent calls it isn't - plus i'm sure you could use it for fallback should your main connection have issues?

I would put this out to OpenReach, Virgin et al. They usually have progammes like the Fibre Community Partnership or Rural Gigabit Connectivity programmes. You can usually get a fibre connection ran from a local exchange for quite sensible money that wouldn't require a 25 year commitment. In 25 years I would expect 6G and 7G networks and to be at such a point that all devices we provide students and staff will run with an eSIM, so you won't need fibre connections or wi-fi. Committing for that long seems rash.

We're a Google school here, and block everything except the Gmail apps for security purposes. Perhaps they're enacting something similar regarding the iOS Mail app and what protocols it uses to access LGFL Mail?

I'd have thought you block calc.exe running - But I'm really curious at to why you need to?

That was a huge criticsm of Google Docs back in the day. Took them a while to solve it. Perhaps Microsoft will do soon enough too!

Our backbone carrier is Virgin Media, so its unlikely to be that. I would begin to guess that it's the core network.
