LeMarchand Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 To kick off, I'll cheat and do the last 4 I've seen: The Hundred-Foot Journey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEO1TWeM5JU If you enjoyed director Lasse Hallstrom's "Chocolat", this should be up your street. May be a bit too frothy for some. Inescapable (Can't quickly find a trailer) Alexander "Dr. Julian Bashir" Siddig's Adib Abdel Kareem isn't a patch on Bryan "Skillz" Mills as he bumbles about Syria looking for his missing daughter. Don't waste your time. A Walk Among The Tombstones (Trailer linked elsewhere) Talking about Bryan... Worth a look, but grim. The Equalizer Another film with someone who will soon be getting his bus pass taking on bad guys. At least Denzel is a more believable action star than Edward Woodward was in the show. Dumb but fun.
localzuk Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Tomorrow, When the War Began. I thought it was a brilliant movie. Strong characters, good plot, well worthy of a sequel.
pcstru Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Noah. Genesis meets Lord of the Rings. I had to kick myself when for a moment I thought I would have to read Genesis to see how historically accurate the story was. Doh.
abillybob Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) This is the last movie I just watched, loved it I was laughing start to finish!! Warning might be slightly NSFW! EDIT: Yes just watched it, it is NSFW!!!!! The film by the way is A Million Ways To Die In The West! Edited October 2, 2014 by abillybob
unixman_again Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 The last three that I saw were Twenty Feet from Stardom , Alceste à bicyclette and La Vénus à la fourrure. I highly recommend them, although the latter isn't for those of a nervous disposition.
Norphy Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 This Before that, this On my way home from Before I Go To Sleep, I asked my GF which Colin Firth film she wanted to see the next weekend
AJWhite1970 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Watched the french film District 13: Ultimatium last night as hadn't seen it for a while. Some brilliant free running scenes in that one!! Last English film I watched was Man of Steel on Sky, which IMHO was utter rubbish...
abillybob Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 The Harry Hill Movie I know, I know!! 3.4 out of 10.... I've had Kettle leads rated better than that
witch Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Some utter piece of toss called Breakout with Brendan Fraser. Completely unbelievable plot culminating in the most ridiculous bit where the hero (Fraser) manages to overpower the villain, stabs him through the hand and leaves him moaning on the ground - and then runs away, LEAVING THE VILLIAN'S GUN BEHIND
X-13 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Naruto Shippuden: Inheritors of the Will of Fire. ...I'm such a weeb.
LeMarchand Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 (Lee Daniels') The Butler http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUA7rr0bOcc Good, but only loosely based on a true story. The older son (who is somehow present at a lot of the defining moments in Black American history) is a complete fabrication. I also felt that the film was a tad "bitty". Possibly the story would have been better served on TV, as it rushes from event to event.
LeMarchand Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 Dracula Untold It seems that Vlad the Impaler was a bit misunderstood, and the impaling stuff was only due to being brainwashed as a child soldier for the Turks. Grown up into Luke Evans, he just wants to be a just and fair ruler to his Transylvanian subjects. Unfortunately those nasty Turks have dreams of world conquest and he has to strike a deal in order to gain the power to drive them back. It's a good-looking film, but full of WTH...? moments. For someone who is supposedly a great military mind, Drac's strategies seem somewhat flawed. This is supposed to be a set up for a "Marvel Universe" style "Universal Horror Icon" shared world, though so-so box office and poor reviews seem to be working against that. I wouldn't positively recommend the movie, but neither would I warn anyone who's interested off.
rickjames Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I have watched 80 films this year, 35 of those being at the cinema. Is that a lot?
LeMarchand Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 I have watched 80 films this year, 35 of those being at the cinema. Is that a lot? If you don't have an Unlimited Card/other way of paying very little/not paying at all for the cinema I'd say that's good going.
rickjames Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Yeah Unlimted, been a member for a few years now.
LeMarchand Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 42 Ronin Based on actual events in Japanese history, but with added Keanu + fantasy elements. Tolerably entertaining, though hard to say too much about without giving the end away. If the trailer tickles your fancy you may enjoy, but not many people rate it.
unixman_again Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 47 Ronin is a very Hollywood-ized version of the story. We in the know, much prefer the 1941 and 1994 Japanese films. There is supposedly a longer directors cut on DVD. I think it needs a much shorter cut, ideally with Keanu Reeves and the dragon lady cut out completely.
LeMarchand Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 I think the longer cut is only in Japan. I quite enjoyed the fantasy elements and can see the reasoning behind a Hollywood star in such a production. One could even argue that the story was "tweaked" in Japan during the period where its retelling was frowned upon. To be fair, it wasn't a complete Hollywoodization - they kept the ending!
LeMarchand Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esGn-xKFZdU Gone Girl Great film, with a very black heart. Well worth a watch, particularly if you can avoid spoilers. Edited October 16, 2014 by LeMarchand Video not showing
mac_shinobi Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 The last Movie I saw was : A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) - IMDb A walk among the tombstones 2014 Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Ttj9tXzCA
Novalee Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind - old (2004 I think) film, but my absolute favourite. Watched it the other night - it's on Netflix now actually. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnSgSe2GzDc
