We have received about 90 of these units, we opted for the non DfE managed devices. We are using the installed OS and as part of our configuration we install Sophos Intercept X. We have not seen any issues with the units we received.

Hi All, Just received this via our headteacher; I know it's been covered but thought I'd share Date: Wed, 20 Jan 2021 at 12:37 Subject: IMPORTANT ALERT regarding DfE laptop virus To: Dear colleague IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING A VIRUS IN DfE LAPTOPS We have been made aware of the following issue from a Bradford school. They have just received their final assignment of Windows laptops from the DFE. The laptops are Geo Geobooks 1E. Upon unboxing and preparing them it was discovered that a number of the laptops are infected with a self-propagating network worm (Gamarue.I). The network worm looks like it contacts Russian servers when active. The DFE helpdesk has been notified and a screenshot of infected files has been provided to them. This shows the infected file was last modified on 7/12/2019 shortly after the laptop was manufactured. The DFE have confirmed that a few schools have reported this. Can you please ensure that your ICT department/partner responsible for the preparation of the devices is made aware as a matter of urgency. It is recommended that they check school networks as an added precaution. I will be meeting with DfE colleagues later today so will ask if there are any further updates or advice that can be provided to schools with infected devices. Our ruckus provider suggested a Standard UCC SSL certificate as we have a redundant ZD setup.

Hi, As i recall I had to concatenate the primary and intermediate certificates before uploading them on the zonedirector, don't forget to copy it to the 2nd ZD if you have a failover configured between 2 devices.

We use Konica/Minolta MFD's and some standalone printers, recently changed print management from Inepro/Docupro to PaperCut and it's been a revelation, well worth a closer look

Hi, We been asked to look at opting out of our local authority internet provision, mainly as a cost saving exercise. Initial pricing from alternate providers have been encouraging and there are certainly savings to be made. Has anyone gone through the process of 'opting out' and if so what were your experiences? The head teacher feels it would be useful to have a conversation with another school that has already been through the process

I'd be tempted to try ifttt.com as suggested by others. Great for automating this kind of thing on supported services.

Hi Guys, You can use Read-a-Card software from Read RFID cards quickly and easily - Read-a-Card for this application, we've used it for a similar use case and works well. A trial is available which works for 30 days if memory servers. Essentially it emulates a keyboard wedge so should work in AD or any other application.
