Just thought I would start a post to see which Hardware Re-sellers you all use?

Varies - depends who gives us the best value.

 

Some of the ones I use.

 

CSE, IDNS, Insight, Millgate, Net-Ctrl, Northgate IS.

As above depends on situation but usual ones: CPLTD, Insight, RM.

Misco get almost all mine - good prices, good kit, superb account manager (Mike Hinchliffe). Almost always next day delivery and the number of times they have sorted out warranty issues for me makes them almost priceless.

But Previously at a school was Misco, BT Business Direct, a Local company called Casscom, Millgate. Majority of desktops where purchased direct from Stone although the have recently gone to Novatech (and I believe a little disappointed!)

9 times of out 10 its Misco, great account manager (Darren) and always great deals...but now looking at Stone (just buying 28 for an IT suite and see how they are)

90% Misco who I've had a good relationship with at both this and the previous school. Novatech are our go to guys for bespoke builds, I think they might be getting most of our server/desktop orders in the future. Insight are used if Misco (vary rarely) can't supply and Ergo's Hardcase Pro's are about the only laptops I'd buy for student use. Then there's Axel for the thin clients and I think we've used CPL once or twice. Edited August 2, 2012 by tmcd35

Like most schools, we shop around. But we, like others, use CP Ltd. Joe is fantastic, and beats quotes of all competitors.

 

We've just bought 100 new PC's, and as a gesture has upgraded the RAM for us on all of them.

 

I think for me, a smaller company is better to use as they offer that 'personal' approach. I know if one of PC's is faulty Joe will do is utmost to fix the issue.

The first three get the lions share and that is due to the service from my account managers.

Virtually nobody over the last 20 months due to the rebuild procurement although we are just starting to need to start buyign stuff again.

 

We used BT Business religiously for many years but the AccMan Changed and it's went so far down hill we have given up.

 

Not used misco in a long time as they seriously wound me up, mind you it was over a cisco ISDN2 line card when we were on 128Kb Broadband so that gives you an idea of the length of time ago that was LOL...

 

So at the moment we are an open book, everything out for 3 quotes and see who we like. And anything over £1K has to go out for quotes anyway.

we used CCL for a long time as they are about a mile away from us so we could just go collect the odd bits, but we now use aria from manchester Aria PC - Computer Hardware, Components, Monitors.. at lowest prices, the builds they send us are fantastic and the cable management etc is superb and most of all great prices.

I used to use Misco, Insight etc but over the last 18 months ive been using UK Computer supplies. Out of the 5 or 6 companies i get quotes from, they have been the cheapest. Their service, support and delivery has been spot on as well. My account manager there is Vince. Well worth a look if you haven't used them!

@Millgate for anything off the shelf and a lot of installs - Luke is ok I suppose haha sorry Luke just joking! Always next day delivery, always free and nearly always cheaper than anyone else.

 

VeryPC for all our PC's - great build quality, great warranty, great service.

 

IComm for our SAN, wireless and network type stuff - top blokes who really know their stuff.

We've recently got Sarju as our new accman (though I have known about him for years as he filled in on our previous accman absenses). I don't know how he does it, but he either makes continual losses on our orders or he bribes someone! We had a hiatus from BT Business after some bad issues but the recent prices and quotes have been winning factors.

 

Like others here, usual ones as well include Misco, Insight, CCS Media and Probrand/IT Index. Occasionally I'll also check by some of the sponsors here, but despite my continual reading that they always offer members "the best price out of anyone", I can't say we share that experience in general, bar the odd unusual exception.

 

Unfortunately, our severe lack of purchasing (not being given funds) has significantly reduced expenditure, and alot of expenditure now is on openbox/b-grade/used.

Well, maybe, but I don't buy an awful lot (smallish schools, no money )and the companies I mention always give me very good prices. I do check with others to make sure!!

Mostly CPLtd, Millgate sometimes, and BT Business for smaller stuff (hard disks, keyboards etc)

 

Won't use Misco out of principle since the account manager assigned to us (despite not ever buying anything) is extremely annoying

 

I also prefer smaller companies, they just seem more efficiant to deal with, even if I could possibly save a small amount buying elsewhere.

For us it's mostly been Insight (combination of really good account manager that I get on well with, good pricing, being on the OGC/GPS framework, and a website that means I can order on credit for small stuff!), Stone (for laptops/netbooks), with NetCtrl for some specialised stuff. Also used WStore (now Misco) and Dell (although we've now blacklisted buying direct from Dell due to rude/unhelpful account managers - quotes should not be returned with pricing higher than the website lists!).

 

We've also just started using Milgate for some quotes based on feedback from here so we'll see how we go. Luke seems like a nice guy though
