Just interested what is happening around the country is your school closed or open. Just announced we are closed High School & VIth Form college in Staffordshire?

Some members of staff are in but aren't teaching so they don't lose a days pay!! They are offering a 'baby sitting' service to yr's 7 and 8.

we've all been asked to inform SM of our intended action on that date.

 

I am not in a striking union, and will be arriving for work as usual unless told otherwise by SM.

As far as i am aware, we are open to staff who are not striking, year 11's whoc want to come in for extra study time (im sure they will all turn up...really)

I doubt there will even be a picket here, ive talked to one teacher who is striking and asked them what they will be doing, the answer "probably doing some marking and catching up on paperwork" so they are on strike but stil doing work....kinda defeats the object

My union is striking but im choosing not to, cant afford to lose even a days pay at the moment as ive just moved into a new house

I've been told if there is a picket line and i choose not to cross my name will be added to the people "on strike" which i dont think is very fair as i have still attempted to get into work but have been prevented by something beyond my control

Well, you haven't exactly been 'prevented', have you? A picket line isn't a row of guys with baseball bats - they do have to let you through and they can't actually stop you.

As far as I know, it's illegal for striking staff to prevent those not on strike from getting into work. To be honest tho, I highly doubt you'll have a big picket outside your school anyway, we didn't when they went on strike before. Rather they joined the main one in the city centre.

You also cant be forced to cross a picket line, but you can be docked a days pay but there can be no other action taken against you.

I've heard the same about the 6 people limit, not sure how it would work at my college as we have over 5 sites but who knows.

 

I'll be coming in anyway, great chance to clear stuff without interruption!

very much doubt anyone here is striking, we will be open as normal. but then we're not state run, so if we close the school, we lose money as a business not just as individuals (plus the bad rep it would send out)

Had phone call the other evening from a person calling on behalf of UNISON asking if I was striking next week. They seemed a bit surprised when I told them that I hadn't been a member for over 4 years since I left working in Education and that it didn't affect me.

School is open here for a limited selection of year groups.

After reading the Voice website, you can stop and listen to the picket line member's point of view but you must make every effort to go to work. If the line is dangerous, you don't have to cross but I doubt your teachers will be rioting outside the gates.

 

If you aren't striking, make it known in writing to management. That way if you cannot get on-site, you cannot have a days pay docked or disciplinary action taken against you.

Similar here to most I think, we're shut to pupils open to those staff who aren't striking.
