Casio Projectors won't last the distance

We installed one of the Casio LED projectors in March this year, we had to send it back in the summer with an overheating fault...That's been the only glitch, otherwise the image is great, functionality is good and it's very easy to set up and configure. They turned the repair around in about 15 days.

15 days isn't a bad turn around without any form of dedicated warranty/contract. Our old LFT laptops would take around that to get back from repair, our Fujitsu-Siemens laptops took even longer.

 

Can't compare on the projector front though - never had a projector die in warranty!

It was in the holidays so I wasn't harassing them, I'm sure they'd turn them around quicker under duress...

Just as a comaparison (Oh and i dont work for Epson) our Epson education warrenty is repair or replace in 24 hrs from stock.

Thought tis might be of interest.

We put a Casio XJ-ST145 in our hall 2.5 years ago for the reason of low maintenance - especially having to use scaffolding to get to it.

 

It's just had to come down and we're about to arrange warranty swapout. Brightness has halved, and it's unusable for anything worthwhile with lights on.

They're warranted for 5 years/20,000 hours.

 

It's done 415 hours.

Yikes. The biggest issue we have with our Casio projectors is something going pop and littering the display with white dots. Got another one this morning that I've identified as needing to be swapped out because of this.

Yeah, these projectors haven't aged well sadly. We've had to send some back repeatedly for warranty repair. Can't remember if it is 3 or 4 repairs. We only have 5 of them in total.

 

We switched away from them to be honest, and moved to ultra short throw interactive projectors instead. Epson EB485wi (got about a dozen now), and we've just bought a couple of NEC NP-UM301WG (as they're cheaper than Epson's offering now they've stopped making the EB485wi).

 

Yes, the lower "bulb related maintenance" stuff was good on the Casio's, but they just don't seem as reliable.

aye, anything we get now is Epson based (the UST).

Been eyeballing the Sony and Panasonic kit currently, especially the latter as they have a 0.19:1 throw model for peanuts meaning we could do our 5m diagonal hall screen from only 75cm away.

We went Optoma in our hall, not USF though. Only ones reasonably priced for the size of image and brightness we needed (4500 lumens, came in around £1k).

We have 50 Casio's not the A-130 ones but the A-145's and most are now out of warranty (5 years) and still going strong, really pleased with the quality and the cost factor.

 

Plus maintenance costs to replace bulbs and clean etc etc.

I have about 70 casio's and would not change them to another brand for all the money

The earlier A-series seemed to have problems - a few of them caused by heat.

 

Don't think I've seen any problems since and none with the M series.

 

That's said, hall aside we tend to put in interactive screens now

Same here but as I stated not the A-130s model but the higher spec A-145s

 

I did hear from someone who bought in a batch of the first model released A-130 and had overheating problems, that is why I went for the higher spec model.

 

So far so good, just hope when they do decide to give up the ghost that they do it in one's and twos not all at once

 

Didn't purchase all in one go but in batches of 10s over a couple of years so should be ok

Touch wood our 1st gen Casio AJ130s are still going strong...

We've had a mixture of projectors over the years from Optoma, NEC, Sanyo, Hitachi, Sharp, InFocus, Casio and Epson.

Our old Hitachi and Sharp ones outlasted newer NEC/InFocus - DMD chip issues and blurry images.

Casio on paper is good - but colour brightness quality is poor compared to the Epsons we've recently got.

Project a rainbow or colours on a Casio and an Epson and you'll see the difference...no more Casio for us.

Interesting read seeing we've been considering going over to the Casios for our next major bunch of replacements (about 35~) obviously the 5 year no lamp side of things sounded great.

 

Those who are having problems with the Casio would you say it's only the old stuff, or even the new models?

We didn't have much luck with NECs projectors. They almost all ended up with black and white dotted projections within four years. Half of them did it within the three year warranty and got replaced most of those have done it again and been replaced with Epsons (EB-93H, X25 and 595Wi).

We have one Casio. We were disappointed with the brightness, colour and noise the thing makes so we didn't get any more but it was quite an early model so they may have improved.

We've got a mix of Casio projectors here that we've been installing over the last 3 years replacing old Epsons. Quite a lot of the XJ-M130's, a few XJ-M131's, a few of the new Core, and a XJ-M150. No issues with any of them so far.

Really impressed with Epson.

I was recently asked to have a look at a school because they are having some projector problems.

The 4 Epson S3 are at least 9 years old! One has got too dim to be usable but the others are just about ok. Had very poor experiences of NEC and Hitachi.

I want to like the Casino LED projectors but find they are a bit noisy and the interface not as good as Epson.

Epson's here as well, impressed with them. Did have a few Casio's but I think they are all gone.

Ours are the new ones. Casio's warranty was good, we had a refurb replacement turn up for ours that only had 60 hours on it, however side by side with the bog standard Epson next to it, even projecting at twice it's ideal image size, it looked really poor We don't intend to buy any of them again.

We've got 2-3 casios, don't like them though, quality/brightness is pretty poor in comparison to the Epsons, one even had to be replaced after only a year in service due to complaints about the quality, it's now kept as a spare to change out for any with dead bulbs in case we need to get any in.

 

The bulbs for the Epson X20/W18 models we've been putting in are only about £75 now compared to what we were paying 5-6 years ago of £110-130 on various models we were using then, so they've got a lot cheaper, and they seem to last a pretty decent amount of time, especially if you stick them into ECO mode on the day you get them (Still looks better than the casios on eco!)

I'm with you here. 95% Epson projectors. With a few hatchi short throws. (Which are crap)

 

We have a mix model range. X9 X20 X27 (I think) I'm sure there 1 or 2 older s7 still going
