tech_guy Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Was sat here tonight going through tracks and I starting thinking about instances where covers of songs were actually better than the originals. The two that stand out majorly for me are Fall Out Boy's Beat It ft. John Mayer - so much better than Jackson's, and; Johnny Cash's version of 9-inch Nails' Hurt. Which covers do you think are better than the originals? 2
Kipling Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 version of hallelujah is better than the (already great) .
RingOfFlame Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Not sure if better but got to love Alien Ant Farm and Smooth Criminal 1
GrumbleDook Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 The Muppets doing Bohemian Rhapsody ... FTW (literally ... it won two Webbys!) 1
witch Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Gladys Knight's version of 'Memories' - Far better than Barbra Streisand
SC-UK Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Peter Gabriel and The Book Of Love. In my opinion much better than The Magnetic Fields.
Kipling Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 william shatner's common people is leagues ahead of pupl's
DAZZD88 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Murderdolls doing White Wedding and still on the Billy Idol theme, Drowning Pool doing Rebel Yell. Another one would be Fighstar doing Breaking the Law.
Jawloms Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I prefer Guano Apes version of 'Big in Japan' to Alphavilles. 1
Domino Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I prefer Guano Apes version of 'Big in Japan' to Alphavilles. Totally agree there. The only Fall out boy track I like is their version of 'Roxanne' - real stonker and on the Police theme, Underoaths version of 'wrapped around your finger' Alexisonfire and Moneen did a split ep where they played two of each others tracks - the alexisonfire versions of moneens stuff are awesome, less so the other way round. Metallicas whiskey in the jar is a stonker too
sidewinder Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Suppose the obvious one is All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix, though I love the original too 3
LeMarchand Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Sisters of Mercy: Gimme Shelter, Jolene and Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight); also The Leather Nun's cover of the latter. Placebo's version of Running Up That Hill. I also prefer the Glee version of Don't Stop Believing.
Hightower Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Foo Fighters version of Baker Street. And Foo Fighters cover of Tiny Dancer & Blackbird. In fact every time that little angel opens his mouth he beats everyone and everything. *sigh*, I miss Davey boy....
Popular Post BatchFile Posted July 1, 2010 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2010 Guns N Roses - Live and let die 5
jlucas Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Faith No Mores cover of Sabbaths War Pigs. Best cover I've heard of a Sabbath song. Sounds even better than the original.
soveryapt Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Perhaps not better, but McFly's cover of Don't Stop Me Now was brilliant it has to be said .. at first I thought NOOOOO Another Queen song ruined, but it worked really well ..
laserblazer Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Rolf Harris "Stairway to Heaven" so much better than LZ.
sister_annex Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I second Alien Ant Farm... but have to go for... The Muse version of Feeling Good Spiderbait's version of Black Betty is epic and although not covers, Metallicas colab with the San Fran Orchestra on the S&M Album Mark
JJonas Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Anything covered by Carter USM but I do like their version of Trouble 1
soveryapt Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 The Muse version of Feeling Good Oh yeah .. that is rather a good version ..
theriver Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Pet Shop Boys: Always On My Mind. However, they blew it with Where The Streets Have No Name . . . . .
LeMarchand Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Johnny Cash's version of 9-inch Nails' Hurt. But could anything match Sad Kermit's version? 1
