Almost indestructible Children's Headphones

Does anyone know where I can pick up some headphones that primary school children can use, that won't break after a few months??

 

We use them in our PC suite but the amount of times they have broken a dare not say.

Been here 10 years and every year the ICT lead teacher asks the same question. I reply there is not any such thing, and imply more supervision might work.

There has to be something out there... I won't believe for a second they haven't been invented. And if they haven't...then we could make some big bucks

Sadly, there is no such thing... you are better off buying cheap and cheerful so you can afford to replace them regularly.

 

Either that or you take the approach of my son's (secondary) school which doesn't provide headphones - pupils can use their own or buy a cheapy set of in-ear ones from the finance office... I think they charge £1 - son uses his own, so I can't be sure

I think you underestimate just how destructive kids are... Give them a sheet of titanium and they'll have it bent and broken in minutes.

It wouldn't be cost-effective. Indestructible and low-cost don't go together.

I had a company offer them about 10 years ago but they were £70 each. I get cheap ones for about a couple of quid maybe have to replace them twice a year and so am still up on the deal..

I've just taken delivery of a set i ordered from CPC that came to under 60p each!

I was actually quite impressed at the sound quality when I tested them. A bit of bass and no tinny sound like I was expecting.

Here we also go along the lines of cheap and cheerful, probably replace the suite twice a year max, so for like £1/2 a pair, its not too bad!!

I ressurected this because I too am looking for headphones that will stand up to use in the IT suite. I have found an Amercan company that does a robust looking headphone and have asked them if they can tell me if it's available over here.

The company website is califone.com and the model 610 headphones seem to be well built.

we used to use ones like these to do listening stations for public use... only once did a pair get broken when a teenager full on jumped up and down on them and broke the head band, which we replaced for about £8 and carried on using them.

I remember being shown headphones that worked via an infra-red signal at British Telecom's research park around 20 years ago - they worked on line-of-site, so you had to be looking at the screen to be able to hear what was being transmitted. They were made from tough, flexible plastic and seemed to be very robust. The only place I've ever seen them again was at Futuroscope in Poitiers, France, but they strike me as being perfect for the classroom - you hear what you're looking at (your screen, your friend's, or the teacher's) and it's pointless pinching them as they don't work anywhere else.

I second these they are pretty good and at £4.20 a pair (min case of 40) are excellent value

I Third these for the price. We bought 10 of them 2 years ago for our LSU where nothing lasts more than about 6 months and they are still going strong.

They are not indestructable, but they are pretty tough and cheap.

AFAIK, they are the only supplier (I've found) is it the minimum 40 that's an issue? cos it can't be the price!

Just to clarify, Hills have 37 of these in stock, minimum order is 1 set at £3.95. Price drops to £3.30 if you order 40+. Can happily recommend Hills as have used them for over 10 years - they should be able to set you up an education account pretty quick and easy...

No we got them from Hills, they are a good supplier and if you want more than 37 it might be worth having a word with them just to see when they are getting more stock in.

Another +1 vote for the headphones and Hills both brillant. Headphones have lastest very well (12months+) and look and sounds very good for the price.
