Oh please, Oh please, Oh please!!!! (Finding it very difficult to type with fingers crossed!)

Everything working ICT wise....

Sent the first TXT to all staff and parents that the school was open at 7:15 for then to get into school and for an executive decision to be made that the carparks were impassable and that the school would have to close. So a second text was sent to advise that the school was now closed.

Good news this afternoon is that a decision has been taking to close the school tomorrow also - awaiting a snow plough to return tomorrow to finish the clearing job. Further bad weather forecast for the rest of the week too.

Email server decides to throw an absolute wobbly at 8:30am. Losing all it's info from AD. Had no emails since then. Currently working with the boss to recover the data, luckily the databases containing the emails were unharmed. Flipping Exchange 2010.

I have played my first two pranks of the year so things are underway properly. I rigged up some bangers from some left over christmas crackers on the server room door and my colleagues top draw.

is that revenge for the wrapping paper thing?

My day started with a roasting from my boss because the network wasn't working. As you may have read in another post one of my switches died just before Christmas.

So new one on order but today has been mostly spent taking out non-essential services (i.e. the ICT suite) and re-routing the machines off the dead switch onto the live ones. My switch cabinet looks even more like a mare's nest now. Then tomorrow when the new switch comes I'll have to do it all again:( the other way round. And - as my "desk" is in the ICT suite I've been frozen all day - no machines on so no heat to speak of.

What was that someone said about more snow? Bring it on. Not that I'm work shy but I would like some appreciation for my efforts, all I get is moans. And a happy new year to all my school staff NOT. Thank goodness it's home time I'll go and get warm now.

Nah, I don't really do revenge. Pranks are just a normal part of my day really :D

Tbh the cracker bangers were not that good. They just let off a pathetic little cracking sound. Mike just giggled. I was hoping he'd poo himself with fright ;)

You need to do a Mr. Bean and stick 12 of them together for greater effect ;)

Worked well for decorating :D

Not too bad here really, just had a CC3 have a fit on an update and wouldn't even healthcheck :| Seems to be ok after several restarts - think it's just gotten too cold!

Keep forgetting about the aircon though, get out the car into freezing cold, walk into a lovely warm school, 15 minute chat and "happy new year" banter with the head & staff, then into the server room which was easily colder than it was outside :|

Not too bad a first day back. Had appraisal with HT, all okay :) E-Mail not sending from our exchange box to county addresses, turns out to be a county DNS issue. Discovered that I can now update Sophos to latest version as county have now got ISA rules rules to allow access to Sophos unproxied, job for tomorrow. Rebooted all servers at end of day to install updates and discovered that RDP into terminal server form outside school now works again. And finally installed ECDL exam software in IT suite...

Tomorrow will probably not be so good.........

I think Amey might get upset about the mess that would make... Not that the head would approve even if we weren't pfi ;)

No, I think I'll keep my pranks small scale. At least then the mess if it goes wrong is small scale too!

It's a discussion you have which involves being asked what training you need, knowing full well they'll never pay for IT training courses, particularly the not so cheap MS ones.....

You're not thinking outside the box enough.

Masking tape and newspaper.

Lots of it.

And then of course anything left over afterwards can be used for smaller prankage - lots can be done with masking tape, although admittedly gaffer tape is better :D

The builders decided to build a stud wall in front of the door into the server room, there now putting a new door in for us.

Did someone sanction the installation of a firewall? Maybe someone got confused along the way ;)

That is unbelievable. In fact, it's so unbelievable I don't know if I should believe it!

Received an email this morning to me at the IT Helpdesk and it read as follows:

Good morning,

A couple of queries.

Most importantly, 3 of the sports staff need access to the 1:1 rooms as we are scheduled in there today for tutorials. What is the code?

The rest of the bits and bobs are to do with staff room furniture.

- Is it possible to get a kettle in the kitchen area please?

- We also need a bin for litter please?

- And do you know if we will be receiving our draws/cabinets soon please?

Thanks

Ok so i understand we are currently moving to a new build, and obviously this member of staff has moved but This is an IT Helpdesk not a bring all your other problems here Helpdesk!

1 of my schools had had a break in, seemingly targeted at a flight case full of Macs that were luckily on loan and had been returned. Another had had a break in where 30 new laptops (that I'd only just updated the image on ) and their (separately stored) power supplies had been taken.
