Suddenly getting this strange Script error message appearing on our Win10 desktops when or shortly after someone logs in. No apps open either so I'm struggling with the suggested reg fix as there is no app to name in the IExplore emulation registry edit fix suggested when I search for solutions. Anyone got any ideas? thanks!

Thanks all I checked again there and it’s now risen to 40gb free (despite only deleting a 10gb file!) so it looks like it has merged down the checkpoints it had created Bit more house keeping required to get it down a bit more! thanks everyone for your help

I removed 1 of the old 10GB files and it has now given me enough space to get them all powered back up for now. Thanks!

I stupidly enabled check points on one of them and then immediately disabled it again but can't now even inspect > compact hard drive as it crashed before the merge was complete. Despite check points being turned off in the settings it still won't let me access that. I have found a couple of old VMs on it which are no longer used so I'm removing them now which will hopefully get me enough space to at the very least power on the DC and FS server!

Help please! I've ran out of disk space on my server (Windows Server 2019) which runs Hyper V for 4 virtual machines (servers). I noticed today that the disk space was sitting at 5GB so initiated a check point - big mistake this dropped immediately to 14MB and immediately paused the virtual machines and had to be rebooted. Now the server is sitting at 40MB and hasn't got enough disk space to fire up any of my VMs - both DCs, File server and printer server all dead. When I try to start any of them a message appears saying DC01 failed to start, could not initialise memory there is not enough space on the disk. A quick look at the server hard drive suggests there is nothing which can be easily deleted to free up space. There is obviously the .AVHDX files under the virtual hard disk locations Any pointers welcome! Thanks!

Anyone please help me diagnose / eliminate the cause of this? Our assembly hall projector has 849 hours on the lamp and has developed a noticeable flicker very occasionally. Basically you either one of the following very randomly: 1. Split second of a flicker & the speaker output from the projector pops 2. Split second of a flicker 3. Split second of a flicker, followed by an HDMI source input message being displayed After all 3 the projector picture continues as before with no user input required. There is a secondary HDMI port at the stage (which is what is being used). I've changed the HDMI cable and it seems to have minimised it happening as much but it is still happening. No one is standing near the cables / connectors at the time it happens so I can't blame a lose connection affected by touch. HDMI cable is connected via USB-C hub to a MS Surface Pro 7 I'm thinking of running a long HDMI cable to another port on the 2nd input panel to check if the stage side adapter is the fault here. Also planning to try a different Surface - any other ideas? Annoyingly it seems to only appear after the projector has been on for a while so difficult to check it in operation! Thanks

We have 4 trolleys here of Chromebooks. (Against my suggestion / ideas but that's another story grr). I'm noticing despite my best efforts there is a constant movement of Chromebooks towards other trolleys and just abandoned there - so for example a trolley of 30 easily becomes 40 with the excess left sitting on top I've tried colour coding them using paint markers, and coloured insulating tape - indicating a colour per trolley but the problem seems to be the ignorance of users not to bother returning them correctly, not the fact they don't know where they go to! I'm tempted to look into restricting certain numbers of Chromebooks to certain WAPS to keep them in some sort of a restricted area but seems a lot of hassle to do this, and not even sure if it will be an option with our site wide Meraki WAPS. Any ideas / strategies you can recommend? Problem seems to be the trolleys are just left open and the culture seems to be just walk round until you find one left open & take away.

Cheers, I'll have a look into that link. Would that explain why not all computers have it listed within DNS, and why it's maybe only appeared (can't recall noticing it before)? It also doesn't appear for a test station I just removed and restarted. That has only just appeared with it's IPV4 address.

Just having a quick check in DNS on Win Server 2019 and found something I'd never noticed before... I'm wondering if it's been tampered with somehow. Basically most client desktops (Win 10) are listed 3 times within the Forward lookup zone for the domain. So for example, I have the following 3 entries for 1 client desktop: STN-20002 Host (A) IP Address normal then time stamp 16/01/24 09:00 STN-20002 IPv6 Host (AAAA) random Mac Address then time stamp 16/01/24 09:00 STN-20002 IPv6 Host (AAAA) random Mac Address then time stamp 16/01/24 09:00 We don't use IPv6 and I'm almost certain there was no mention of if there before, but it's very random now that a lot of our stations are appearing 3 times with now 2 mentions of IpV6. Is there anything I should be aware of / double check which could be happening? Thanks in advance!

Been doing the rounds here for past month and steadily increasing amongst staff. Whole departments being taken out one by one at the moment. I had it for the first time last month and still suffer from lack of energy afterwards. Don't hear of it so much now amongst the kids. I know the advice given is not very clear - but even if you have covid you can actually still go to work, it's only advised to stay at home. I was in my bed for several days and certainly couldn't go to work - and I very very rarely take any time off sick

Today I uncovered a secret stash of brand new, unopened Console Cables - Serial to RJ45. Whatever doomsday scenario someone was planning for I hope it never comes.... we also had like 5 extra cables for each switch

I’m on bin bag number 20 I think dumped since clear out began…. Bin bags full of CDs from the days of having to have a disk per license lol. I’m actually a bit worried now that my clear room may give people ideas when they realise the actual size of it!

I found a box of IDE / Floppy cables, and SATA cables too. They have found their way into the WEEE collection lol!!

Thanks for all replies folks - I’ve cleared out a massive amount of cables and reducing myself now to paper box size of storage for some! The room is now painted and refloored and is a complete blank canvas! Also the skip is now rather full 😆😆😆 Big thing I’ve noticed - I’ve got far too many boxes filled with monitor bases from when they have been removed for dual monitor mounts. At what stage do you just bite the bullet and get rid of these? Does anyone else have an awkwardly shaped pile of bases sitting around lol

I'm actually thinking of doing that where possible - if anything it means less sticky mess on the new cables which gathers up from PAT stickers over the years lol!!

I quite like using these too because they are a decent enough size plus also the lid is handy too!

Due to major refurb works here over this summer it's a great chance to clear out from classrooms, but especially our IT office. Question is - how much do you keep - for example, of spare VGA cables (we still use a lot of vga monitors), power cables (which seem to breed amongst themselves!), network patch leads etc. I'm uncovering boxes upon boxes of power leads and it's an awful shame to WEEE dispose of them when they have never been used but even still - time to clear out. Finally - what's your storage for the above items like? I'm re-laying out our office soon so ideas would be appreciated... at present I'm decanting down from large box to small box in the hope the next step will be out the door! Thanks

Free Epson Aculaser C1000/C2000 Transfer Belt unit - unused / in a sealed box. Surplus to our requirements and we disposed of all existing Epson printers.

Status light for power is on, but activity light isn't illuminated at all, with no flashes etc. I'm assuming needs checked on PERC but reluctant to reboot at present unless absolutely necessary

I'm using Dell PERC RAID set up. I have found a 1TB Enterprise drive & replaced but how do I know it's built / working ok? From what I read PERC is only accessed from the options when booting the Server? As it's a Hyper V host server I can't easily do that without disruption. Can anyone advise how I can check the disk status rather than a reboot? Thanks!

I've encountered my first HDD failure on our 4 disk RAID 1 set up System in 5 years (thankfully!) The drives appear to be hot swappable - and I've removed the faulty one - it's a Dell Enterprise Capacity 3.5HDD v5 1TB - part: ST1000NM0045 Am I right in thinking any 1TB HDD would be ok for this, or does it need to be the exact same type? I know I can't put in less capacity, but what if I put in say a 2TB Seagate instead? Sorry for the silly question just want to make sure I order something which won't mess things up further! Thanks
