All sorted - thanks everyone for advice! Restarting the server, after running disk cleanup released 6GB of files. Kicked off a full scale back up first thing this morning and its working away now.

Thanks I ran disk cleanup and it said I could get 4GB at least back - so I completed that but it made no difference. I then read that you need to restart the server for it to take effect so kicked off a restart there before bed. I hope it’s ok tomorrow lol!

Bit the bullet and reduced the size of partition D - however the free space only appeared on disk manager to the right hand size. Therefore the only partition i could extend again was the one I had just shrunk

Our server2008r2 backups have stopped working - using built in Windows server backup. It fails each evening due to not enough disk space. I changed the external HDDs to 2TB capacity free and still get the same message. I read this is due to lack of space on the server C: drive. Ours is now full! The raid partitions are as follows: C: has 40gb - Pupil data has 400gb and staff data 400gb and deployment is 160gb. Using disk management is it going to cause issues to shrink a partition - eg the pupil data which has loads free and then increase the c: partition? I’m scared to touch this incase it messes up. Thanks - I was doing some research, and PaperCut Print Logger meets our needs completely with regard to reporting usage of printers, where from, and who by. I'll look into the restrictions imposed on the actual devices - never thought about that thanks!

At present our set up is Win 7 clients, and Server 2008r2 back-end. For the past number of years I've bought into Printer Management software to limit students printing credits etc. This is vastly becoming non-cost effective - our students only print when required, and the cost of the management software outweighs the cost savings in my opinion. Is there any built in / open source software I can use for the basic 2 functions: 1. limit copy count - to 2 max etc. 2. produce print reports - who printed to what printer? Not happy with our current printing management provider - for the reporting is hit or miss etc. Thanks

Oh dear goodness no way. We have a hard enough time keeping keyboards and mice in suites and they are cable tied in!! Also our Mac wireless mice had to be removed as this was causing issues with machines too close together.

Assemblies happen on a regular basis here and quite often require ICT / AV set up. Our year heads are asking if they can set up their own assemblies (wow! - and this enthusiasm must be embraced!) but this leads to a potential risk of equipment being damaged. What do you do for self-service assemblies? How do you help ensure the equipment isn't damaged / stolen, including the remotes? At present I set up a laptop, plug in HDMI & network cable. Lower the projector screen & switch on projector. Simple enough - but the stage layout means the laptop, cables and projector remote could be easily stolen. A box of assembly equipment is an option I'm thinking of, but the only suitable safe location is too far away. Thanks in advance

Just wanted to firstly thank @ass17 for this wonderful bit of software... it's really been so helpful this current exam season so far! One user noted the following to me yesterday - when he uses the directional keys up, left and right move ok, however the down directional key doesn't have any affect. Is this resolved with the latest release? We are using a release from 2 or 3 weeks ago at present!

Thanks - would it be ok to have this new server on Server 2019, and promote it to a DC alongside the others being Server 2008r2? Wont that cause any issues?

Currently I have 3 x servers running Server 2008R2. 2 have A/Directory, DNS, and DHCP roles, and 1 has WSUS & A/Virus role, and the 3rd is just used for print role. I have bought a new server complete with 2 SSDs (400GB each) and 4 HDDs (1 TB each). I plan to install Server 2019, and have several Virtual servers - maybe 3, replicating the current set up. Advice required for the following: 1. Would I be best recreating the network on the new server, whilst keeping the existing one working with no interruption... as in, create the network again from scratch. (I inherited this one so would be a learning curve) 2. If I were to integrate this one into our current environment, what would the idea plan of action be? At present none of my client workstations are Windows 10 so I'm thinking starting afresh may be the way forward and then take the summer to rebuild the workstations onto the new network... but I'm hoping for advice before doing this! Cheers everyone. I have already replaced the projector this morning from our spare stock, so teacher happy. Projector had been here since May 2013 and had been on it's 2nd bulb, so owes us nothing.

Had a call to a room where the data projector had smoke coming out of it! It was at the end of the day, so I'm assuming the projector had been on throughout the day (at least!). From looking at the projector unit, the bulb casing is showing signs of plastic melting, so this would lead me to think this is what was causing the smoke. However, whilst I have replacement lamps for this projector model I'm seriously concerned about leaving this back into a classroom. So question is - is it common (in anyone's experience) for projector bulbs to overheat, but not be the actual projector at fault?

Doing a personal job here, and the issue was laptop blue screening repeatedly with memory errors presented. I was removing / replacing RAM to detect if there was a faulty stick. Unfortunately my last one I had to change - the one under the keyboard has now caused the laptop to not power on at all once everything was put back together. Battery removed / power removed during the repair, and only a bit of plastic lifted, RAM quickly swapped, and everything put back together... quite a simple repair - or so I thought!) The laptop is a custom build, Clevo W370ST. I reckon it looks like the mainboard has went. Any idea of where to get spares? At one point did Very PC / Stone supply these?

Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm in a similar situation. Current set up is 2 x Servers running 2008R2. I have a brand new server waiting to be configured.... I'm debating is it better starting completely afresh (with Win Server 2019) or like you are saying install Server 2019 on the new server, configure several virtual servers and then migrate roles across? Is there many issues moving a role from Server 2008R2 up to something newer?

Thanks - I vaguely remember a similar solution before! I was just about to test it on the users account but discovered it was now working. I had to increase her disk space quota earlier as it was reporting too full, so maybe that was the cause of the issue.

Server: Windows 2008R2, Clients: Windows 7 Occasionally we have an issue where someone logs onto a Win 7 computer and whilst their profile loads correctly, their MyDocuments folder re-direction doesn't. MyDocuments appears blank for them. My quick solution is to delete the user account from AD, rename the existing folder & then re-create a new user in AD and also a new folder for them. This solves the issue but isn't ideal. Is there anything anyone can suggest to look into, or reset to hopefully prevent me having to recreate everything? Thanks

Did you ever get any resolution to this? Same happening here - particularly over past few weeks. The users log in & get access to everything - control panel etc (not that it can particularly work for them but still) but no folder shares etc work. So yes, like a local profile. Only resolution I can find so far is to rebuild.

I've been recently asked to look into an iPad App called MirrorOp for this purpose... but I'm so snowed with jobs at the mo I haven't had time to look further into it.

Yes, you do have a perfectly valid point - however the board is only available to us to test for a week. Each classroom currently has an interactive whiteboard already in place. My plan is to use it for the open evenings in an open area of the school to a: see for my own benefit exactly what we can do with it, and b: encourage teachers passing by to see it in operation - in my opinion this is more beneficial than hiding it in one classroom where realistically it may not be used. The noticeboard idea is fantastic - thank you!

We've managed to get a demo 75" 4k touch panel with Android on it - which I've decided to borrow to coincide with our open evenings in January. I'm thinking of the best use to make of this - has anyone got any good practice / ideas of what they use theirs for? I'm thinking some sort of digital portfolio for our Art department, or pupil work, but open to ideas. Thanks
